The Possible Causes of the Galaxy S4 Black Screen Problem
There are a couple of factors that may cause the Galaxy S4 black screen problem. It can be a malfunctioning app, system glitch or malware. A hardware problem may also trigger the issue.
. Soft Reset
Hold the Power/Lock button for around 10 seconds until the phone boots successfully. This will allow its system to refresh and eliminate minor glitches. However, this only serves as a temporary solution.
2. Update Apps and Firmware
See to it that your apps or firmware are up to date. Always install updates when you see one. This will help remove bugs in the current version or the software you are running and improve the performance of your system.
3. Install Antivirus or Anti-Malware Apps
Look for a reliable antivirus or anti-malware app. Viruses and malware do not only steal your personal information but they also corrupt the data stored in your phone. So, always see to it that you have the most reliable or updated antivirus or anti-malware app.
4. Factory Reset
A quick way to remove major glitches or bugs left behind by third-party apps is via Factory Reset or Hard Reset. This process will entirely clean your system but it will also remove all the data stored in your device. So, be sure to backup first prior to this. - Věda a technologie

Do about 3 factory resets. With blank screen to get the phone running with colored screen. This is the process I use. Follow it carefully:
1. Pull out battery.
2. Press and hold power button, big bottom bezel, and volume up button at the same time for about 4 seconds until phone comes on. Don't press anything else. Wait about 7 seconds before proceeding to step 2.
3. press volume down key 4 times and then press power button..
4. Press down key once
5. Press power button once and wait about 10 seconds
6 press power button again to restart phone.
7. The phone will boot with screen working if not wait until it installs built in android O.S. which will take a while it will show colored then.
8. Repeat the above process over and over until the screen comes on, it usually works when the battery reaches 1%.
9. When the screen comes on Go to app store and then install a program called no screen off which will disable screen timeout. And initiate the program which will disable screen timeout.
10 use your phone with power saving on at all times to decrease battery drain.
11. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER press the power button or you will have to repeat the same process above again.
12. This method works for me. It beats paying $300 to get a new screen.

Very good video my friend, mine went black right after the latest upgrade. its a gt-s7560m. I tried all the hard reset options on the utube and checked battery voltage at 3.6. all it does is vibrate when power on and stays black.

Random Black screen when using Samsung J3... solution confirmed.

If one is getting Black Screen, after opening certain apps, and there seems to be no real pattern to these events, as was happening to me with whatsapp, facecrook, youtube etc., it was discovered that due to a recent android os update, the issue is being caused by the 'Proximity Sensor' on the J3, and its being covered by my finger or palm, when starting these apps, in landscape, such that the proximity sensor was being triggered. The proximity sensor should only be triggered when you are using the phone at your ear, so that your ear does not trigger events on the phone unintentionally, but in the android update applied on 13th october 2020, a bug in the update has the proximity sensor being turned on for many apps such that the app will appear to open momentarily and then the screen goes black, and even then if you uncover the proximity sensor, the screen will not reactivate. After perhaps 10 hours searching for solution online, this bug was discovered by myself accidentslly. So, just make sure that when opening an app, that the proximity sensor is not covered, and after the app starts, then you may revert to landscape orientation, and the proximity sensor then does not deactivate the screen.
Shame that users now have to test the software for the impoverished multinational IT companies, but it is not as if users are dependant upon their devices for their employment / bussiness / other critical purposes now is it?

Hridex iPhone breaks way easier even when u don't drop it that high it cracks, idk bout the x but the ones my family have which is like 6-7,it cracks easily plus u can't take out the battery in the iphone so u could do other things

The problem with my phone is that I touch the screen but it don't respond I can see everything but it would not respond.
Digitizer not responding try drain your phone by take out battery and holding down power button and put it back it and turn on if it didn't work try replacing your digitizer

Ok so can you help me? i turned my phone off and left it charging for like 2 hours. i came back and it was 100% charged i knew because the light was green which meant fully charged. When i took the charger plug out the green light was still there. so i decided to turn my phone on but then i wouldn't. i took the batery out and the green light went away but when i put it back and tried to turn it on it wouldn't. I WOULDN'T EVEN shake or nothing. JUST A COMPLETE BLACK SCREEN. its been like this 1 whole week. l really miss it. can you help me out please?

+Nomie Sara Check display IC or Power Button. Many mechanic will say that u have to change display. Dnt trust them....its not a display problem.
if those tricks dnt work then it it can be display IC... or other parts or IC related to display. In my S5 I tried all the basic thing.... factory reset, holding power and volume key, Android OS reinstall by odin everything. My problem was phone can turn on, can see menu light and notification light, even tough was working but the screen is black. I took it to a mechanic and he said it was a problem of Display IC. thats it....... now my phone is ok.
After switch on the phone....touch the display, look if you feel touch sound or vibration.

Hi sorry for the late reply, It can be possible you have a bad LCD screen. You can test your screen in a different phone and see if it works. Also it can be issues with your data cable connecting to the main board.
