Well, to be honest this time of year really isn't great for me, but I think it teaches us that it is possible to rise above our woes occasionally, even if it feels fake. Sometimes, forced jolliness can help to lift the mood.
It can! But also all feelings are valid and I’m so glad you acknowledge that. I’m sure it’s a comfort to many people. ❤️
AS a boy we did not have the presents under the Christmas tree instead my dad made a treasure map and the presents were hidden all over the house. It was exciting to go around finding presents in different nooks and crannies. I carried on the tradition with my own kids, and now my grandkids have treasure maps as well.

One year we let the children make maps for each other and hide each others presents. Unbeknown to us Raisa put Christopher's box of chocolates on a ledge up the chimney, and I wanting to generate some christmas atmosphere in the house decided to light a fire, and when the fire got roaring we had brown melted chocolate dripping down into the flames.... Laugh??? we nearly pished ourselves.

I grew up in a Middle Class Family of 8. Our Christmas was more Family dinner, we each received 1 gift (toy), 1 piece of clothing and a Stocking full of fruit. How Blessed We Were! It's Christmas Day, sitting back, enjoying a Nice Cup of Coffee, no place to Run off to, just enjoying My Richard and Paul Christmas Special! Thank You, Guys, Much Love!

As I watch this master piece,,, I am prepping the turkey for tomorrow.. Such a wonderful 1950's Christmas we shall have this time.. Fingers Crossed.

Oh, did I need your bright happy faces on this Christmas eve here in Seattle. Paul reminded me that life goes on and to remember that whenever your going through a challenging time, to remember that you will get through this. Then I drooled while Richard stirred the cheese sauce, reminding myself that I follow a vegan diet and cheese is a no-no. Lastly, I had to change my shirt because Richard made me laugh so hard with his old queen skit that I spit out my drink out all over myself. Thank you so much...you both made me smile in spite of my tears.
Well, we are very pleased to help you smile and laugh. We know it's not easy to work through sadness..we know that some days seem to be drenched in emotion. If we've helped to lift you a little then we have done an ok job. And to hear that you spat out your drink...well that's the goal isn't it...! We love to hear that! Wishing you peace. X

We ( hubby, 20yr old son and I ) have for the last 9 years, stayed at home on our own, pjs on, stockings in the morning and presents throughout the day, tv/films, whole cooked chicken , nice fresh bread, meats and cheeses etc with a few luxury items ordered and picked up from M & S . We do this for a few days then out for a festive meal sometime in the week and often a trip to the cinema then visit relatives down south usually 27th for a few days then back home to chill again for a few days. We’re pretty sure the in-laws would like us to come to them one Christmas Day, but we have found that being selfish for those few days means we don’t end up being resentful and really enjoy the time together before my husband goes back to work ! Really enjoyed this special video and now feel very festive 🎄😁
Thanks Ruth! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! We try not to make a big deal out of Xmas. Like you, we just enjoy a couple of days of relaxation and try not to get to sucked in to all the hype. Having said that, I'm quite sure everyone will be expecting another Xmas special this year!!! I'd better start planning!!!

Hi R&P, as you know doing catch up..... you do make me laugh so much. Thank you for always bringing a smile to my face. The skits were brilliant and will be trying the recipes. I would've thought so! Glad you enjoyed it. It is a difficult time for many...we try and avoid feeding into the whole commercial thing, but there is a part of me that still enjoys the sparkle of Xmas lights. R.
Richard and Paul I know, far too commercial and too much pressure to buy the right gift at the right price. One rule I have is not to get in debt over it..... it’s not worth it and defeats the whole idea of Christmas. I love being with the family and friends over Christmas and then go home to my bed. I now go into work in between Christmas and NY, not worth wasting annual hols over it.

Well, it's tea with honey and lemon for me. And I think it's helping! For brunch, cream cheese on whole wheat bread with sliced tomato and fried egg. Let's hope the yolk doesn't run this time.

Brilliant!! Fabulous!!. That was an hour and nearly 15 mins of pure joy and entertainment! Cake , what a wonderful recipe!. When we were little we always had the lounge door tied shut with string on Xmas morning and everyone was sat on the stairs bleary eyed waiting to go in and asking ' has he been?!' .
The queen speech was hilarious!., Loved Morecambe and Wise. So funny each time we saw you , you were more adorned with tinsel!. Great haul from the allotment, superb carrots.

Could you provide the recipe for the parsnips? They sound delicious.
It's very easy.
Pre cook your parsnips (quantity depends on how many people) by steaming them until soft at the edges. Set aside.
Make a roux sauce (watch my earlier video), again, the quantity depends on how many people, but I'm using an ounce of flour, an ounce of oil to half a pint of liquid. Flavour the sauce with gruyère, again, quantity depends on people, I'm using just over 300 grams. I add a good teaspoon of Dijon mustard too. You could add a pinch of nutmeg and black pepper if you like. Reserve some gruyère for the top of the dish.
In an oven proof dish pop in the parsnips and pour over the gruyère sauce. Preheat the oven to 170c fan or 180c. Bake the dish with a lid for 15 mins. Remove the lid and bake for a further 15 mins until golden brown.

I'm not sure our budget will stretch to that!! The carrots were divine, in fact all of it was extremely tasty. We were very happy with the meal!

Was wondering what is the vegan alternative to butter and eggs? I saw a brit special she did a boiled fruit cake called ''creole cake'' and used lard. She said after you 'feed' the cake brandy you put it in a cool spot for 2 weeks, like under a bed in a unheated room. And you can keep it for a year.

To replace butter you could probably use a vegan margarine.. Vegetable oil based...with eggs there are several alternatives such as silken tofu or mashed banana.
