This was a very tasteful cover. Now, I just listened to a live cover of this same song by Coldplay. Their's wasn't as good as this, but it was pretty decent and they didn't butcher it or change anything drastically. Yet people were ragging on them ridiculously: "Aborted attempt at a song," "talentless piece of shit," etc. People on youtube have a thing against superstars, so when they actually cover a great song, they don't get appreciated. Glad no one's ragging on Diana Krall like that on here.
yeah great cover of this dylan gem ,, taken from the chimes of freedom quad cd album of covers of bobs songs ,, steve earl does a great version of one more cup of coffee ,, quite a few decent renditions on this dylan tribute album.
it is strange how a simple twist of fate can change you radically forever. A smile a hello a would you like to see what is further on up the road at a Woodstock concert and a world is born that goes on and on forever changed by that simple twist of fate
09.10.1975 They sat together in the park As the evening sky grew dark, She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones. 'Twas then he felt alone and wished that he'd gone straight And watched out for a simple twist of fate. They walked along by the old canal A little confused, I remember well And stopped into a strange hotel with a neon burnin' bright. He felt the heat of the night hit him like a freight train Movin' with a simple twist of fate. A saxophone someplace far off played As she was walkin' by the arcade. As the light bust through a beat-up shade where he was wakin' up, She dropped a coin into the cup of a blind man at the gate And forgot about a simple twist of fate. He woke up, the room was bare He didn't see her anywhere. He told himself he didn't care, pushed the window open wide, Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate Brought on by a simple twist of fate. He hears the ticking of the clocks And walks along with a parrot that Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailers all come in. Maybe she'll pick him out again, how long must he wait Once more for a simple twist of fate. People tell me it's a sin To know and feel too much within. I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring. She was born in spring, but I was born too late Blame it on a simple twist of fate
she breathes a tenderness and a sorrow into it that Bob doesnt capture quite as well. I like Bobs rendition of his song but hers touched me and made me realize how sad and achingly tender the song really is
There are some really fine covers out there and Diana's is one of them. Bob Dylan . however , is not so much looking for melancholy as he is pathos. He is the master of pathos. No version comes close to his ( in my highly subjective POV ).
Very nice. Hey you know what. The Elvis estate should have invite her to "duet" on "Fever" rather than Mister Bubbles. It's more suited if it was done with a Lady. Never mind. For Volume 2 album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Estate should invite Diana to duet with the King. Tracks that would suit her are "Until it's Time For You To Go", "Love me Love the Life I Lead" and "True Love Travels on the Gravel Road".
Yes. The Dallas video - id'd as tOJVU0ZCh4c here - is her best version on CZcams that I've seen. Accompanied only by Nathaniel Smith's plucked cello, she manages to turn it into a better jazz piece than Krall does, and I wouldn't have said that was possible if I hadn't heard it. How the hell can a 21 year old girl do this?
Not easy to cover Dylan's songs. But there is a great melancholy that permeates through her interpretation. I like it just as she sings it: bittersweet, a bit down and sad.NB
The Baez cover is better than the original (and she even improved upon the "parrot that talks" foolishness) This is a great cover, too: Krall's restraint is very effective IMO.
I like a lot the original, it's one of the best songs Dylan wrote. As his fan, I say it's one of his 100 best songs (around 60, 50), but dammit. Diana did it way better...
Cant tell you how many times I've listened to this beautiful version of a beautiful song. The singer amazing. The song writer on another level...
This song makes me weep any time I listen at it. This cover is simply amazing
I'm happy to see I am not the only one somehow obsessed with this song
One of my favourite Dylan songs superbly covered here
Hi carmel I am the one for your emailing list so I have forwarded it and the green will not work so the order was made from amazon so it will
...great Dylan´s song, gorgeous piano & Diana!!!
Dylan as a performer I can mostly do without...as a songwriter..wow. I studied him in English in 1971. Still in awe of the poetic imagery.
DYLAN IS GREAT MUSIC COMPOSER..... AND WRITER TOO
Diane can always make one hear and feel the words.
I love listening to all the version, beautifully sung Diana Krall.
What a GREAT cover. Dylan would smile.
saw her perform this live last night, much more passion and feeling live than studio...awesome cover
AMAZING RAW TALENT. What a blessing to her, for us.
Simply, absolutely, beautiful.
Thank you God.
We have the same good taste for good music. Great choice! One of the best Dylan´s song! Oh yes, bless ya Diana! Luv ya!
That's a great song. She really does it justice.
No se podría imaginar alguna forma más hermosa de cantar esta canción. Gracias!
Great song... Sung by the chocolate voice of Diana...
Great job of using this song to tell your own story. Thank you.
one of Dylans greatest melodies
It's just beautiful.
Beautiful song. Ive played bass to this. Adds a dimension.
she's so great, i love diana krall!
Beautiful................
Wonderful.Thank ypu
Wow...stunning
:'''' diana krall opened my emotions, she is incredible.
Nothing compares with the voice, with the soul, with the sound of Dylan. Thanks a lot, Ms. Krall: but this song is another thing.
It doesn’t have to compare.
Diana Kroll is fantastic. K T Tunstall does a version of this that’s pretty great.
For me, she drips sensuality. Love all her music.

My guess is because that 21 year old is just about the biggest young talent in acoustic music today. ;)
beautiful :)
Você é linda..

They sat together in the park
As the evening sky grew dark,
She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones.
'Twas then he felt alone and wished that he'd gone straight
And watched out for a simple twist of fate.
They walked along by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel with a neon burnin' bright.
He felt the heat of the night hit him like a freight train
Movin' with a simple twist of fate.

As she was walkin' by the arcade.
As the light bust through a beat-up shade where he was wakin' up,
She dropped a coin into the cup of a blind man at the gate
And forgot about a simple twist of fate.
He woke up, the room was bare
He didn't see her anywhere.
He told himself he didn't care, pushed the window open wide,
Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate
Brought on by a simple twist of fate.
He hears the ticking of the clocks
And walks along with a parrot that
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailers all come in.
Maybe she'll pick him out again, how long must he wait
Once more for a simple twist of fate.
People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within.
I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring.
She was born in spring, but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate
A brilliant cover, with a depth of melancholy that Dylan has a hard time showing. Good for her.
Rick Schwartz but Bib Dylan wrote it!
Bob Dylan I meant 😀
Agreed
she breathes a tenderness and a sorrow into it that Bob doesnt capture quite as well. I like Bobs rendition of his song but hers touched me and made me realize how sad and achingly tender the song really is
From the Amnesty International Dylan tribute album.
Yeah. It was the very best in that album.
There are some really fine covers out there and Diana's is one of them. Bob Dylan . however , is not so much looking for melancholy as he is pathos. He is the master of pathos. No version comes close to his ( in my highly subjective POV ).
It's a complete new insight that Bob Dylan stands for pathos. As I previously assumed, Bob Dylan stands for nothing more less than fucking pathos.
Exquisite. JfromOH

I'd like to hear a woman sing
One too Many Mornings..

Woow
as a Dylan fan, and him being my favorite music artist, I say: better even than the original
I am sure this is the loveliest rendition of one of Dylan's most melancholy songs.
'... hit him like a freight train...'
If he said so
Not easy to cover Dylan's songs. But there is a great melancholy that permeates through her interpretation. I like it just as she sings it: bittersweet, a bit down and sad.NB
Bluesy rendition.
best version, I'd say
Broke me
I have no argument with that, my friend, none at all. :)
Really nice and smokey version, but I think I prefer KT Tunstall's cover. Great lyrics - some of Dylan's best.
I think she's very good. Obviously, no one can compete with Dylan's original.
Hear the Bryan Ferry's cover.
The Baez cover is better than the original (and she even improved upon the "parrot that talks" foolishness)
This is a great cover, too: Krall's restraint is very effective IMO.
Jerry Garcia´s cover is the best for me, and I respect any one who renders a tribute to this jewel song
Norma Gilpin except for jimi Hendrix, Johnny cash, willie Nelson, and of course woody Guthrie.
Lovely rendition, but I really miss the tender guitar at beginning and harmonica refrain at the end...
M
Close, but no cigar . . . .
Diane's good at everything..
just has to be Bob singing this,
Always.
I like a lot the original, it's one of the best songs Dylan wrote. As his fan, I say it's one of his 100 best songs (around 60, 50), but dammit. Diana did it way better...
Personally I feel Sarah Jarosz does a better job with this song.
IMO this cover is better than the original, or perhaps I just prefer it.
who are the three jerks who did not like this?
Jerry Garcia dos the best cover of this song by a long shot.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Oh no, sorry this is just wrong.
But not better than the budokan version...
Am I the only one who thinks she sounds like a guy?
+slipknot150123 Yes
She's so boring
Pas top....
very weak cover...
Another boring cover...why why why!!!
Should be banned......an insult to music .....disgusting
She could do so much more with her voice.
Not impressed.
