Perfect, thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thanks! Just what I needed to make a nameplate to print for my wife's desk.

There are a number of challenges printing something like that, all due to the small size and the orientation of the torus. How did you configure the slicer?

+Bill Hely I use Meshmixer to generate orientation and supports and then just send it to MakerBot Desktop. Screenshot at this link. I'll print it later to see how it comes out. It's a total of 2" long. i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/DrawMeAPicture/2016-02-10_14-23-55_zpstdftwb8g.jpg

+ProfDrafting Thanks for the response. I'd be very interested to see how you go with an actual print. I tried to print something similar some time ago and found it very problematic. No doubt the high-end and very expensive printers used by professional service bureaus can do it with ease and in great detail, but I've found that a combination of very small parts and different orientations can throw up some real challenges for the more affordable printers.
That said, whichever MakerBot model you've got is way fancier than my Wanhao Duplicator i3, and I'm still tuning and learning to get the best out of it. Surprisingly, for such an inexpensive printer, it's capable of some exceptional output, but I'm nowhere near the exceptional stage yet.
I'd be most grateful if you could post a photo of an actual print along with the slicer settings you used for it.

I just printed it. It came out beautiful except for the torus, which was too small, so I would just thicken it next time. The supports were light and fluffy and snapped off with my fingers easily.

This was printed on a MakerBot Mini, btw. I also have a Replicator 2, which would probably have done an even better job.

+ProfDrafting OK, thanks for the pic. I had foreseen the problem with the thin torus and made mine thicker and embedded further into the first letter, but it still was not at all satisfactory. You are using a very different orientation and support structure to what I used and I think that might make the difference. I'll have a play around with that and also with slicer settings and see if I can improve on it. Might be a while before I can get to it though.

Great information but can you do it with script writing?. Thank you

      @@ProfDrafting any idea how?

@@SalonSonikPasadena See if there's a font shape generator. Or you could import an SVG sketch of whatever script you want and then model it.
