Minimal Overland FJ Cruiser Rig Walkthrough

- Check out my 2008 FJ Cruiser Camper that's been my fun little project for the last couple of months. We've taken it on quite a few overland trips now and it's been a blast. In this video I'm going to give a tour of all of the things I've done to it up to this point. My focus with this build has been on making it as minimal and organized as possible with lots of creative ideas for storage as well as power but with all of the essentials to make for a comfortable weekend off grid. Most of this stuff is pretty budget friendly, and I'm definitely an advocate for buying open box, scratch & dent and the facebook marketplace specials. That being said, my fridge/powerstation were secondhand and came with some damage/issues I had to fix myself. It's not perfect, but it's mine and I'm happy with it. I've got a lot of footage to sort through from trips over the last few months and I'm just getting started with this youtube thing, so stay tuned as I'll be uploading more soon. Be sure to like, subscribe & comment below if there's anything you'd like to see more in detail. Thank you!

Nice and simple, not over the top! 👍🏽
Glad you like it! I'm going to do another video soon. Upgraded the rig a bunch and excited to share some ideas
Thank you for sharing
You bet!
My minimalist camp "overland" with my FJ involves using a pitch tent.
Cool ride. Save money where you can and put it to better stuff like a lift or tires. The harbour freight lights work very well.
Thanks man. Yeah, creature comforts are all done for now and suspension is probably going to be the next goal
Nice set up! 2012 FJ overlander here as well #FjGang!
Aw yeah! They are the best.
Nice features. And music ;)
Awesome setup dude!
Hey, thanks!
Awesome set up brother
Hey thanks man!
I would love to know exactly where you mounted your Wolfbox rear camera. I have a 2012 FJ and your video has really sparked my interest. Thanks for sharing!
Of course! I mounted it on the last crossbar for my roof rack. Been busy moving to Colorado but I'm almost done and will most likely post a new video dedicated to it to help folks out, that camera rocks though. I don't have any blind spots anymore.
@@Overland_FJC Thank you so much for sharing!!
Hi nice set up. What’s the tire cargo holder don’t see it in description
Here’s my roof rack: prinsu.com/product/fj-cruiser-prinsu-roofrac/
Spare tire basket:

What kind of roof rack is that bruh?
(I just got my 2007 "Vodoo ranger") you got a nice rig man!
Thanks brotha! It's a prinsu roof rack! Thing is a beast and good price too. About 900
Please let us know the Rearview mirror that you went with for the backup camera
Of course, I went with the Wolfbox G840S:

Thanks for that. Where did you place the backup camera on the license plate holder or on the spare? Also
, how did you connect to the rearview light? I have a 2007 so I do not have the camera holder on the spare tire. @@Overland_FJC
@@Cuzco28 So what I ended up doing was actually ziptie-ng the rear-view camera to my roof rack up top, however you could be able to do it on the license plate too, but I didn't wire it up to the lights or anything, I just routed it into the cabin over the weatherstripping and through the driver side headliner. It sounds messy but honestly turned out really clean, as long as you dont mind a wire when you open the back tailgate. It also gets power from the same wire that connects to the dashcam so you only have to worry about one wire. I can make a video on how I did it if you'd like, honestly is the most important mod I think I've done. No more close calls with running over innocent people. haha
A video would be great. Thanks!!

@@Cuzco28 of course! Waiting to thaw out for now…. It’s 9 degrees 😂
I just picked up a 2014 FJ. I'm liking your setup. How long have you owned your FJ?
Thanks man. I’ve had it maybe 3 or 4 months now….. but it’s been an absolute blast. Lots of the mods were pretty easy too and I wanted to make sure they’d be easy to setup and tear down. Definitely would say get that ear cargo rack before everything else though, it will help you figure out a good layout for everything.
What brand is the roof rack
It's a prinsu roof rack. Fantastic rack I picked up for 900 but def would recommend using a lot of silicone to prevent any roof leaks and check to see if your seams have any cracks before mounting
Can you throw out a link for the tire cargo rack?
amzn.to/4aUk6Ez
here it is!
@Overland_FJC thanks, it looks different when mounted on the FJ, lower profile so wasn't sure if it was the same one I was looking at.
Yeah it’s much more low profile than it looks in the Amazon photo, but I do like that. Just wish it had a cover of something. I may look into finding a bag that fits on there to store all my propane and outdoor stuff in.
Whos' SUV is this?
