    FYI to hover over any part of the graph and see the displayed data (instead of hovering over each point)

    Took me a while but I finally found it. That also bugged me before.

    Thanks! Tonight, I used this and your related video to setup both influxdb and mariadb with 372 day retention. I guess I'll have to use them to watch my free disk space, now ;) I figured out how to embed Grafana graphs directly in a Lovelace dashboard, but tonight I also found the Plotly Graph Card (HACS) which I think I'll love. I've been using the apexcharts-card (HACS) and like it a lot.

    • @Dorff_Meister
      @Dorff_Meister Před 2 lety

      @@josebatalha2804 Grafana has a way to get a URL for a graph. I used this. It worked fine but I think would stop displaying (authentication reasons, I think) and IIRC they didn't display in the app or maybe when I wasn't home. So I didn't find them useful and quit using almost immediately. I tend to use ApexCharts for all my charts although I've played with Grafana and Plotly (I think I still have stats so I can view them in Grafana, I just don't).

    I have finally taken the plunge, energy prices and all (and uncontrollable geek traits). Great tutorial once again. Will be interesting to see how my dashboards turn out in a few months. One thing I have done from the start is used the Include parameter so I can control exactly what goes into the db and keep it small. A lot of work initially but probably worth it.

    Just FYI influx is now pushing stuff over to 2.x from 1.x version. 2.x will use different querying language and different way to handle databases (buckets and organisations) and using tokens for authentication.
    I’d look into having a different video about having 2.x as it will be much more future proof.

    To get the graph cursor working like you want and to avoid making multiple queries for the same measure, set visualisation to graph and then select measurement from domain, group by tag and fill linearly,
    i.e. FROM default % WHERE domain = sensor
    SELECT field (value) max ()
    GROUP BY time ($__interval) tag (entity_id) fill (linear)
    then add $tag_entity_id in the alias box. You may have lots of percentages in the db, so filter the graph of unwanted percentages using the transform tab function "filter by name". Finally use overrides to clean up the legend naming. Voila!

    • @EverythingSmartHome

    • @benedictsmith2415

      @@EverythingSmartHome I can imagine! The "next level" on top of the inbuilt variables that are auto-generated in the db are the ones you define yourself in the variables tab of the dashboard settings. For example, make a query variable called PercentSelector that does
      select entity_id, value from "home_assistant"."autogen"."%"
      This then produces a drop down list at the top of the page that you can incorporate into your queries:
      SELECT mean("value") FROM "%" WHERE ("domain" = 'sensor' AND "entity_id" =~ /^$PercentSelector$/) AND $timeFilter GROUP BY time($__interval), "entity_id" fill(linear)

    • @benedictsmith2415

I'm guessing that's why I'm not getting any data in the explore tab in InfluxDB. I've triple checked spelling. What could be the issue? Really great video👍 When trying to add let's say temperature sensor data the entities from HA shows up as expected what would your advice be to manage this (I have many temp sensors and the entity ID is hard to read which is why I use friendly names in HA Lovelace cards). Would you recommend going back to HA and customize each entity ID to be more userfriendly in Grafana and what would the implications in HA be?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Carl! I always recommend changing the entity-ids as soon as you get them into HA so it'd a bit of a tricky one! You could change them for sure but be aware that any automations you have will also need their entity IDs changing to match as well as in Lovelace cards.

      @@EverythingSmartHome Thanks a lot for your swift response! I was afraid that might be the case but since I'm fairly early on I might just bite the bullet and customize the entity IDs of all sensors to have a solid base to build from.

In what video was that? domain.AREA_sensorname_property eg sensor.livingroom_lumi_xxx_humidity or would that potentially put me at a dead end down the road?

    Good morning! So I've got Grafana/Influx setup monitoring my UniFi network (using Unifi-Poller in Docker) and wondering if there is a way to create/import a sensor into HA using the data from Grafana/Influx? I've got quite high level stats on everything in my UniFi network and want to get those into HA somehow! At the moment I'm having to use an iFrame with a custom Grafana dashboard on my 'Network' dashboard/panel in HA and it doesn't look or work correctly (if not on the same local network).

      Hey Samuel, hmm that's a good question, that's not necessarily the approach I would take to solve the problem but I'm sure there might be a way to do it that way, I'd need to look into it as I'm not sure from the top of my head

    I was wondering how you feel about 'flux'.. I really liked the 'querry selecter' like you are using it. But 'Flux' kinda broke this - I hope influxdb will fix this or grafana will come out with an update to integrate better with 'flux' or am I missing something and using it wrong? I would like to see a video about how you are using influx 2.x and your opinion.

    I would like to know how to get the influxdb integration if influx will be running on another machine in the network. Would you still install influxdb but just not start it? That way you get the integration? Or can you send data to an external influxdb from home assistant without installing the add-on?

    • @EverythingSmartHome

      @@EverythingSmartHome right, but can you have an "influxdb" block in the home assistant config without the integration installed? i guess i'm not sure if the integration installs the product and the support to talk to influx, or if it just installs the product and the ability to talk to influx is always there in HASS. I'm pointing my grafana to my mariadb recorder db and it graphs it just fine. You have to know your SQL though.
    A wish I have for my InfluxDB is to reduce resolution over time like I had with my RRD-based graphs. Say keep a 5 second dataset for 7 days, a 5 minute dataset for 30 days and an hour dataset for a year. Influx can do this but grafana cannot automatically switch between them when you zoom out etc.

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  Před 3 lety

      You might consider something like Elasticsearch and Kibana! Man I havent used RRD graphs for a few years now (maybe 5?!) But I do remember that feature 😂
