- Twist on ight fixture glass shade removal tutorial. All you need is a flat head screw driver. Just pry around where the glass meets the metal very gently. If you hear it starting to dislodge itself and move a bit you're on the right track. Once the glass shade starts to teeter back and forth with just the pressure from your hand, try to rotate it either left or right. Depending on who installed it originally you can screw this glass shade in left or right. So if it doesn't advance one way- try twisting it the other way. Eventually when you rotate the shade to certain position, the glass bevels that hold the shade in place will align perfectly with the metal bevels allowing the shade to freely come down from the fixture. Next for precautions, it'd take a light grit sand paper to the rusted areas on the metal part of the fixture. Lightly sand the affected areas down and apply some WD-40 to the circumference of the fixture as well as the glass shade. This will ensure that whoever needs to replace the lights in the fixture will have an easier time removing the shade next time.

Perfect! Works for me. I don’t want to say how long my light has been out since I couldn’t take the lid off. LOL
You have no idea how long ours were out too 😂😂😂
I feel like I win.. mines been stuck for like 3 years 💅🏽
That’s why we’re here brother
After so many months of having a burnt light and giving up to even try to take off the dome. So many videos I have tried and failing miserably, I came across yours and worked like magic! Thank you much!
I love you!! I have been searching and searching on how to remove this, and walla! Your quick and easy trick worked effortlessly!! Thank you!
Thank you! I think our electrician was overzealous when he installed these lights. This tip helped us out immensely.
I was literally in tears of frustration until I found this video. Thank you and God bless you
I know your comment is a year old but I just wanted to say reading your comment that I’m so happy for you you were able to not be distraught anymore. Happy day! 😃 👏
I went through 3 other videos and was about to give up. Thoughts of breaking it and just buying a new one..... THANK YOU!!
Same here! Thank you!

Tried, gripping, taping with mallet etc, this worked finally. Thank you very much for your tip.
Thank you. You saved me. I had tried other tutorials without success and this one actually worked like a charm.
I watched many videos (sticky gloves, shoes, extension cord) and yours worked. Thanks!
This is the only hack that worked!!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you
This worked when none of the other CZcams solutions worked. Thank you! There was sticky stuff along the strip where the two pieces connected.
This totally worked! I had a very stubborn fixture and I was surprised how well it worked.
worked like a charm. cleaned fixture out then sprayed WD40 on a paper towel for use around the rim where there were tiny rust colored spots. as soon as i twisted tight, i could not untwist though. lol. but now i know the trick for next bulb outage. thx. for posting!
This was the only thing that worked for me!!! After trying so many other ideas! Thanks 🙏🏾
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! The gentle screwdriver did the trick for me, after living with no light for years.
Thank you! I’m no longer in the dark but now I see I have a lot if cleaning to do. :) I also used a pair of rubber dishwashing 🧤 gloves and that helped too.
Omg you are a life saver for this video! My light was totally stuck and I was like "crap now I have to spend money and call someone". I watched this and it totally worked! Was able to change the bulb without destroying anything lol. Thanks for posting this dude!!!
Thanks I had the same idea but was afraid I would crack the glass, you gave me the confidence needed to get the job done!
I want to thank you for your post. This morning I was able to get the cover off. Please continue to share your ideas. Thank you, thank you again.🤗
Dude- I had tried to open mine for days and finally searched for this video. Worked like a charm, you're the bomb
Man you're fantastic. Had like three lights that went out and was having the worst time with taking the glass shade off until i tried this.
Yes! It worked! Great advice and thank you for taking the time to post!
Thank YOU!!! So simple yet excellent advice!! Fixture unscrewed with ease. Tx
my god. this helped me... i was on the brink of just breaking the glass instead since i need to replace the entire LED fixture. What worked is using the flat head and giving small jiggle while also using my other hand to wiggle the glass ever so slightly too. It eventually twisted without needing to muscle it.
Brother, I have seen some videos how to put WD 40 and with cables, hours of searching, this is the best tutorial, I was afraid of breaking the glass but everything turned out well.
You are a genius for making this video. Thanks a ton.
Thank you so much! None of the other videos really helped until I saw this! Omg, your video helped.
Was on tight as s**t. Could not unscrew. Pried a few places, came right off. Thanks, now I can see in my washing machine again, without a flashlight.
It was stuck like you said! I was scared of applying pressure but it's out now, thank you so much!!
The methods from other videos didn't work - this one did. Thank you!
Thank you so much, ours was so stubborn and this finally worked.
Thank you so much! Thought I tried "everything" to remove that light housing, watched 4 different you tube Videos.. Finally I tried your "Screw Drive Trick".. AND IT WORKED!!! Thank You again!!
Thank you! I tried so many things, but this tip finally did the trick.
Thanks for sharing, we couldn’t figure out how to get the twist off things off!
I was finally able to change the light bulb after doing this. thank you!
Thank You! Must have been at least a year since I've been trying to remove two of those things.
This worked! Haven't had this dam thing off since we bought the house 8 years ago. Three different bulbs in there, one was black from burning at some point. Omg.
I tried them all. This one finally worked.
Dude, you are such a life saver. My light in my apt complex town house has been out for while. I thought I pulled the wiring out of a wire nut or something trying to turn the glass as the fixture part rotated a bit coming loose because the bulb stopped working after I did it.
I found your video to try to finally fix the dang thing. Mine still took a bit of brute force with your overhead-arms-behind-the-head movement, but with that and the screw driver it came loose fairly easily. Good news is that the wiring and fixture were fine and just needed to tighten the bolts attaching it.
You are awesome. I also really appreciate your vibe man. Just a chill video with clear instructions with funny/happy commentary haha. “Rolotoni brown town”. Lol.
You should consider making more videos too. Clear and concise and a happy video too.
Thank you for making this very helpful video.
That chisel tool idea saved my day, awesome help buddy. Thanks.
This was super helpful. Thanks!
you saved my day. my light has been dying and flickering for weeks and i couldnt get it open. dome young 1st time apartment owner who was just savewd by this vid. thank you so much
You the man. 5th video I watched and it worked. Thank you sir.
Thank you thank you thank you! Hours of frustration and it was such a simple fix!
I was getting pretty irked initially trying to figure this out too haha. Cheers!
Omg. Thank you. My ceiling light not only had the glass stuck but the light fixture wasn’t secure to the ceiling so the glass and fixture were spinning together. I had to hold the light fixture stable and twist the glass with one hand. I tried a bunch of stuff (even the screw driver) but nothing worked. I even tried to break the glass to remove the fixture. I hit the darn thing about 5 times with a hammer with all my strength and couldn’t break the glass. Some of the glass on these things is really tough.
Anyway, I googled looking for a solution and found your video. I decided to try the screwdriver again since it seemed to work for you. Finally, I was able to get the glass off.
I knew something was off with the wiring because a wire was sticking out the side (I just bought my house which was built in 1918) but I didn’t expect that someone would have removed the part of the fixture that held the light bulb. It was literally useless. Just an ornament stuck to the ceiling. I’m so glad I was able to get it down. Now I can replace the fixture.
THanks!!!! I couldnt for the life of me get the glass off this got it off in minutes. THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for the tip! Worked like a charm!
Worked like a charm, thanks!
Worked like charm!! Thanks was able to help my neighbor swap porch light.
Works like a charm! Thanks very much
Literally the only thing that worked for me ❤
This just made my day
I tried by hand, with rubber gloves, I hit the damn thing with a sneaker, (that was actually on YT), I used WD40, because...why not? I tied an extension cord around it for traction or something......NOTHING worked.....until I tried the screwdriver. I swear, I heard angels singing as the globe came loose. Thanks for posting the solution! I was this far away from taking a hammer to it. Worked like a charm! Thank you, again.
This one worked and so easily aswell. Thanks.
Worked for me. Great video!
Thank you. You saved me $60. Thought I was going to have to break the glass but this worked. Only complaint is that it hit my head when it came off (not your fault) so I have a little bit of a head ache.
That's the only way that worked for me. Thanks a lot!
Excellent advice. Thanks a bunch.
Worked! I am not gonna lie that it was not easy even with this method, but it worked at the end! Thanks. In my case, what helped me more was your "twisting" technique--using two hands twisting right above your head--instead of fixing with one hand and twisting with the other hand.
Thanx it really helped with my stucked light
Everything you said in this video was accurate and correct. When you said don’t waste your time with WD-40, I just knew you were talking to me!! 🤣🤣 I was going to head out tomorrow morning for WD-40. Thank you!!!
Thank you! Worked so well for me.
Thank you very much! It worked for me perfectly! 🎉
It worked! Thank you.
I so wish I would have found this video sooner. Better late than never - thanks for the video. Three grown men later, we saw this video and it came right out. 😂😅😅
It worked! Thanks man.
Thank you so much! Going to try it on the one in my bedroom!
Awesome. My kitchen light was dim and we couldn’t get it off. This video helped.
1:54 first search, I have the same exact light fixture that I have to open! Thanks!
It worked for me. Thank you
Worked great! Thank you!
Thanks, I cracked one dome but managed to not crack the other two. Very helpful 🙏✌️👌
VERY USEFUL!!! THANK YOU 😉👌
This worked thanks so much!
You my sir are my hero ... it worked !!!!
You da man! Jeez perfect video….thank you very much!
Worked great! Thanks!
Thank you so incredibly much!!!!
Thanks for the tip.
Thank you! You saved me bro!
This worked like a CHARM. I’m in a 2007 townhouse with a little one of these dome lights for a HUGE stairway that’s very tall. I got up there on a ladder and couldn’t get it to twist. Was about to bust it with a hammer and try to catch the glass in a box, when I found this video.
I was super gentle and it worked but my glass did get a hairline crack through it. I don’t care because I’m replacing it, but for someone changing just the bulb be VERY careful!
This method worked for me. 😀The iKea ceiling light fixture I have is of similar design. Before this I've tried lightly tapping and lubricating with WD40.
This worked soooo well tysm
You are a genius!
Thanks for helping!
It worked! Thank brother
Thanks! Did the trick!
My globe was rusted on. It was not locked in. I am glad I had my hands under the globe. After the second pop it dropped. Thanks
Wow, thank you! You saved me from having to make an embarrassing maintenance request. 😆
It worked! I think I'm in love!
😘
Thank you sir! This hack 100% works!
Great tip!!
UR THE MAN
Bingo! Worked perfectly for me.
Thank You!!!! That worked.
Thank you so much!
you are a godsend
This really works 👍
I used a butter knife after watching this, and I finally got it! Thank you!! Lol
