Robert Parish never really said anything when he played. He always seemed very stoic and quiet but boy is he one funny guy. I love his laugh and sense of humor.
I heard that Robert Parish was part of the reason why Larry Bird participated in the three-point shooting contests because Robert Parish and possibly Danny Ainge were giving him a hard time that he couldn't win the 3-point contest if he competed.

Oh yeah, he's closer to 6'10" than he is 6'9". Look at the comparison when he's standing next to Magic. He's easily an inch taller. One the the greatest assets he had was the ability to shoot and pass over the top of the defense. Very underrated asset. I think I read where Larry wanted to be listed a 6'9", since he wasn't quite 6'10" without shoes, he rounded down. Everyone else rounded up. And with Chief at 7'0" and McHale at 6'10" (with an 8'0" wing span)., the Celtics were giant in the paint. I do have to admit, those earlier matchups, the Celtics were too loaded. When MJ entered the league, his first three years, the Celtics won two out of the three titles.

Yes, but as you said, Bird made his whole team better in so many ways. He made Domenique better, he made MJ better, he made Magic better. He made every player with a pair of stones in the league better. These players in particular were highly motivated by Bird to be better. Magic said it himself when talking about their rookie year. magic said OK, Bird is better, so I have to try harder to not let him get too far away. This is what Larry Bird did for not just himself, or his team, but the entire league. He dominated the the best collection of talent the NBA has ever seen, 3 of them goat candidates. MJ went on to have a very impressive career, but he wasn''t playing against 3 of the top 10 players anymore.

Here is how I see larry bird. I consider larry bird to be the chuck norris of basketball. Now a lot of people are goats. Jordan, Bruce Lee, Hendrix, and etc. Then there are those super rare special people that are legendary not because they are masters of one stat but because they have the legendary feat of being skilled in all stats. Those stats are so impressive they create a legend that literally takes on a life of its own. A legend that is so great that people can just look at his ability and question how much of it is real and how much is not. It almost becomes an exaggeration but the more you dig into the legend the more real it seems. Chuck norris is a perfect example of this. To some he is just a normal man but the legends surrounding him are so strong that they build a mystique all its own. Larry bird is a classic example of that legendary status. He is so great that many things at times that he does seem like an exaggeration but as soon as you start getting closer to the truth the more you realize he lives up to the legend. That is why larry bird is the chuck norris of basketball.

First time watching your videos. I appreciate your honesty and how you see the league for how it was and how it is now. Growing up in the 80,s I had the opportunity to watch so many hall of fame players show case their skills and talent game after game. The league unfortunately will never have so many great players all in one era again. The “no look” or “touch pass” and “over the head behind the back” was invented and mastered in the 80,s. Todays fans are watching a ref determined game to protect the star players to draw in fans and sponsorship, you can’t touch or even look at the ball carrier without a whistle. Back in the day u had 6 player in the paint. Look at todays game. Open lanes all day long. The excitement of great plays is pretty much gone.

There’s no doubt MJ is the greatest basketball player to ever step on the court. That said, Larry and Magic are arguably the best players you could ever ask for to build your team around. My dream team is MJ, Magic, Bird, Wilt, and Tim Duncan. The only issue is could they all get along well enough to function as a team? Is there such a thing as Too much talent? I'm from Cleveland and I'm grateful to Lebron for

I can't give the goat title to him, in my opinion players that jump
from team to team like KD and Lebron as well as others
to form super teams in order to win titles can't be considered
the goat. but that does not take away from his greatness.
until I see one of today's player tell the other team
what shot they are going to make, where on the court they
are making it from, without the opposition being able to
stop them, while also never taking games off to rest,
playing the number of minutes per game he played, playing
with broken bones and hurt in numerous ways, be Mr. clutch,
passes like he has eyes in the back of his head, play with
their off hand and score 20 in 3 quarters, shoot from

Bird gets the edge on IQ, off-ball and teamplay, also there was no one else in history that tells opposing players exactly what they're going to do, how they're going to cook you and actually deliver consistently. MJ was my favorite as a kid cuz he was a machine, but when I discovered Bird, he took top spot due to his artistry and skill. I have to agree with Isiah when he said that Bird shot was so smooth it looks like the ball is in the air it seems to be in slow motion with it's own theme song.

How many players (today), could come back from major back surgery, double bone spur surgery and a little before that two achilles tendon surgeries to play at the level Larry did against players like Jordan etc. ??!!! Im a little different regarding the GOAT discussions, because with such a crap ton of major talent the NBA had in the 80's I feel its near impossible to pick any one player as THE goat -- but even Bird gave the nod to Jordan as seen here in this video at least in the game they were discussing, so ill say this - if it was between Bird and Jordan id give Jordan the nod on pure athleticism but I just cant draw a line other than that. Both were so good, but in the end prime Jordan and Prime Bird were both GOATS in their own styles and ways, so given that its largely down to whose opinion and stats. If someone said they think its Jordan over Bird (and I love Bird) id have to say who better than Jordan to give the nod to. Both were GOATS in their own right, and history proves it -- and we were blessed to have them both.

Larry beat MJ in 91. From 1984-1991 Bird had the head up on MJ. But in 1991 MJ started his run to the greatest ever. Bird and Magic put the league on notice, MJ put it on World stage, but he had to learn from them that you need your teammates to get a ring!

What Isaiah meant when he said he never beat magic and kareem. In 1991 finals when MJ beat the Lakers, Kareem didn't play for them. In 1988, MJ had all star talent around him. Pippin, Grant, and Paxton joined the team in 86. To say MJ didn't have a team and that's why he lost, is ridiculous. And my argument to that is..... Look at the 77-78, 78-79, & 79-80 Celtics. Bird took a 28 win team to a 61 win team his rookie year. No Robert Parrish, Kevin McHale, DJ. All he had was a washed up old player who retired that next year. MJ didn't do that, LeBron didn't do that, there's never been another player do that. Magic can't even say that. Kareem was on his team is rookie year. Nobody mentions one of the greatest team turnarounds in NBA history.

That game where Larry is giving MJ props would never been given in reverse. But the reality is MJ never beat Bird. That’s the end of the story. Jordan will always be second best.

I remember, The 80's were lit!, it was a cult, the players were rockstars, the NBA was a phenomenon on the rise. They started the motto "I love this game", MJ became a god in late 80s. Bird and Magic were the marquee players. I remember when the game was great. nowadays is a selfish game where scoring individual highlights are the bread and butter of the league, rather than the hard play, the will, the "heat" during the game. even the all star game was intense. now is a circus, opponents are hugging, laughing and shaking hands all each other like buddies. people don't get it and I understand why, because they never had the chance to see real battles.
the 3pt game has become the killer of the beautiful game. before 3s were only used for last resort now they are the main weapon and it is BORING!

In Phil's defense, if they put Scottie on Bird in that overtime game, McHale, with assists from Larry, would probably have taken Horace down low and torn him up too

@@cartiaeketchupreacts for your generation it may well be. and I think mj is a awesome player and in the top 3. But the best all around player to play the game is Larry. Jordan was swept by Larry twice in the finals. If Jordan couldn't beat Larry .... how can he be the goat? Jordan never played Russell who has 13 titles. You can not in reality claim that Jordan is the best of all time .... the same for me. Both were the best at the time they played. But my Larry even in Jordan's best year when he won every award known to basketball played Larry 4 times that year and lost to Larry 3 out of the 4 times.
My number one is Russell, then Larry, then Jordan and then Magic.

@@cartiaeketchupreacts Nah, that's not what he was saying. The point he was making was that by the time Jordan did finally end up facing Magic Johnson and the Lakers, Kareem had already retired. So because of that, Mike's Bulls never faced and beat that actual 5-title-winning lineup of players. Meaning that there's an EXTREMELY high likelihood that it's not merely coincidence that Jordan's Bulls only started winning championships AFTER That winning Lakers team was broken up and after Bird was on his way out due to his debilitating injuries. As well as the reality of the advancing ages of players on other teams that would have posed much bigger threats even a short couple of years earlier.
I know what you mean about Zeke, but there is truth to at least some of what he says. Any truly fair minded person, even as undeniably great as Jordan was, has to seriously consider the very real possibility that his great success, in part at the very minimum, may be owed to the luck of timing.

Jordan made noone better , Even in his 63 game , he kept taking shots that he missed with teammates wide open, The win was there for the Bulls but his Ego got in the way, You also have to remember that this was injured back Bird that Jordan couldnt beat. Imagine Prime Bird. In response to your questions about when anyone ever did what Jordan did in 88? The answers is Never. BUT it was also a transition year. Bird still beat MJ all over the place. The Lakers were fragmented, The greats of 80s retired on mass and the greats of the 90s hadnt arrived yet, It was a transitions window . Scoring Title and dunk title can be measured but honestly? the other 4 there was noone else. Bird didnt have 'great Buddies; when he won his first title. The massive thing you are missing, is that the excuse you use for Jordan not winning until Pippen and folks arrived , is the same reason that Bird is greater than Jordan. He MADE his great teammates , He didnt need to 'wait' for others to help him
