    Nice work, I have some tanned beaver I will use for this. I will have to pay greater attention to the lay of the fur. I was wondering it it is possible to combine patterns. For some reason I prefer the top of the Mongolian hat over the trappers hat or the Ushanka hat design. I'm thinking the crown pieces would have to be slightly longer since the Mongolian is folded on the band and not the seam.

      Thanks. Yeah, if you bring the sides of the Mongolian hat down and use the trapper or Ushanka sections around the perimeter it should work.

    I do not see how or what spot on your head to measure for sizing PLUS i did not see anything mentioned in the patterns I purchased for "will fit head sizes x thru x" anywhere like you have on page one of the mitten patterns?? Am I missing something?

      Hi, you would measure around your head where a hat would sit. Just above your ears around the back of your head and forehead. The measurement breakdown is in the Product listing, the names of each PDF, and in the video description. I don't know if its there on my website. I'll check and if it's not add it. Thanks for the feedback.

    Hi the hat is gorgeous ❤ Is it possible to buy the pattern only? I searched your website and couldn’t find it! Please let me know.

      Thank you. Yes, just the pattern is on my website and Etsy shop. Here's the link to my Etsy shop.

      That may be easier. If you want the completed hat asking in a leatherworking Facebook group like "Leather Work Patterns" will get many people willing to make it for you.

    Do you have a guide to determine which size pattern to use per the head measurement? Do you add an extra 1-2" to amount of head measurement for thickness of wool?

    • @TonyAllenBernier
      @TonyAllenBernier  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The thickness of the wool is already figured into the measurements. However, If you have really thin wool I would drop down a size.

      @@TonyAllenBernier so is the head measurement....say... 24 " equal to the large pattern? I'm trying to decide which size pattern to use for his head measurement. Do you have a guideline of head measurement to correspond with your breakdown of xs/sm/med/LG/ XL etc?

    • @TonyAllenBernier
      @TonyAllenBernier  Před 7 měsíci

      @@nancyhoffman9815 I do. The name of each pattern PDF tell you exactly which one to print off for the size of your head. Go with the measurement of your head without adjusting it. I'm going to add the information to more places to make it easier to find.

    Wow, nice work! I was wondering that how could I make the hat edges turned out so that the fur puffs out on the edges and the raw edge would get hidden?

    • @maaingan
      @maaingan Před 8 měsíci +2

      Skip the optional step where he trims the extra fuzz sticking out after he shears the wool nearest the edges. Pull the excess fuzz into the edges as you stitch them together

    • @Muiniekka99
      @Muiniekka99 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@maaingan Thanks, that's a good tip for the edges between the pieces of sheepskin! But how could I do that for the outer edges of the earflaps and brim, that are just left raw?

    • @TonyAllenBernier
      @TonyAllenBernier  Před 8 měsíci

      @@Muiniekka99 Thank you. If you don't trim them at all the fuzz will wrap around to a degree. If you're talking about a turned edge you would need to punch either two or three rows of stitches roll it over and sew. The hats I see usually have a shell of fabric or something and the wool is basically the lining. I don't have a video showing the technique but I believe there's some on CZcams showing how its done with sheepskin jackets.

    Instead of scissors, it's better to use a razor blade, so you won't cut the wool.

    • @TonyAllenBernier
      @TonyAllenBernier  Před 5 měsíci +2

      As far as cutting less wool I completely agree. However, scissors are the most user friendly, especially for cutting around curves. I try to go with techniques that are the most applicable to all skill levels.
