    Description:
    I was recently working on a project for a client that had a lot of dimension filters - anywhere from 5 to 10 on each dashboard. This allowed us to drill down to the level of information we needed!
    But a problem arose when we wanted to reset the filters and select new values. How could we do that? Did we really need to reset each filter individually? That’s so inefficient!
    We decided to build a “Reset All Filters” button on each dashboard. When you click on it, it reverts all the filters to their default state so you can quickly make your new selections!
    How do we build one?
    •Build a worksheet which will drive the action
    •Add the worksheet to a dashboard
    •Apply dashboard filtering actions

    Thank you for this! It was very helpful! I have the reset button created and working, but when I click it the first time, it does nothing and is highlighted blue. When I click it the second time, it resets the filters and the highlighting is removed. Any ideas?

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hey! The blue highlighter is annoying... it's there because Tableau sees the reset button as a worksheet, rather than a button. So here's a way around that! www.flerlagetwins.com/2020/07/14-use-cases-for-transparent-shapes.html?m=1

    Will this also work for when you are using sheets on a dashboard as a filter for the rest of the dashboard? I can't get it to reset those selections.

      Hi John! Thanks for checking this video out. Unfortunately, this approach won't clear worksheet selections. However, we've got a video dropping on Wednesday about the "Reset View" button that should help with your question!

    Great video, thank you!
    What to do in a situations where I have a filter that flips between two graphs (e.g.: sales by week/ by period). I have Parameter (by week/ by period) Worksheet selection filter, and fields that go into it. I've tried everything but none of it resets this type of filter. Is there any way to do it?
    I'd appreciate any pointers, thanks!

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey - you won't be able to reset the parameter selection using the reset filters button. Then, the reset filters button works best with dimensions. Measures can be buggy... so if you're trying to reset the measures using this, it might be choppy! But your end-users could use the reset dashboard button if they're viewing it on Tableau Cloud.

    Thanks so much for this video. I was wondering, Is there a way to auto undo the selection of the sheet after you've clicked it, for a better UX? :)

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I think if you use a transparent hex code color, it won't show the blue highlight after being selected. That doesn't really change the fact that it is selected, but at least it looks a little better: www.flerlagetwins.com/2021/10/introducing-transparent-color-hex-code.html
      Otherwise, I'd probably direct people to the Revert/Reset button on Tableau Server and Tableau Public.

      I noticed another way is to use custom shapes. For some reason it doesn’t show the ugly blue highlight when using custom shapes.

    I've been watching and enjoying all of your videos. This is a great feature, however, it doesn't seem to work on Wildcard filters. It clears everything else, but doesn't touch the wildcard filter. Any solution to clear ALL filters (including the wildcard filter)? Thanks!

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hey! The only way you can reset a wildcard filter with a button is with an extension. They're trickier because you want to specify that a blank value goes into the wildcard filter. It's technically not resetting it.
      So that's a shortcoming of this method I'm afraid! Tableau doesn't have a native way to do this, so we're limited by the available features.

      @@onenumbertableau Thank you for the response! I appreciate the additional information. I found an extension for a filter reset, but it also was limited and unable to reset the wildcard filter. I'll keep looking and keep watching your videos. Keep up the great work!

    If we have multiple dashboards do I need to create several reset filter buttons or can I reuse the same one?

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey! As far as we've seen, this could be because there are multiple fields that you could select (like multiple date fields). Alternatively, it could just be because there are fields in the view that aren't linked to the reset filter!

    • @Syzemic
      @Syzemic Před 7 měsíci +3

      WAs facing the same issue. The solution, incase anyone needs it is to go to a sheet fight click filters that say all using this data source and then click on selected worksheets. You need to deselect the 'reset all filters' sheet from there. It should work. :)

    Hi there, I don't understand why you left "Keep filtered values" selected in the "Target Sheets" box. Don't you want to toggle to "Show all values" to reset the filters? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the purpose of the "Clearing the selection will:" options. Can you clarify? Thanks!
    Target Sheets
    Clearing the selection will:
    -Keep filtered values
    -Show all values
    -Exclude all values

    • @onenumbertableau
      @onenumbertableau  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hey! Good question! It's because the filtering is happening when we click the button and not afterwards. So after we deselect the button (click on the button again), we want Tableau to keep all the restored values we've just specified. You could probably select "show all values" and it would still work.
      But that's the short answer!
