How to Conditionally Format Measure Names Color in Tableau (Quick Tip)
If you're working with a lot of Measures in a Dual Axis chart, you'll need to use Measure Values. By default, Tableau can create a color spectrum for each Measure Value, allowing you to choose from a diverging or sequential color palette.
But what if you don't want to color the values with a color spectrum, or a value-based color legend? You'll need to color by Measure Names.
To take it one step further, what if you want to color your Measure Names based off of whether they've met a certain criteria? Something like a T/F, or categories in an IF statement. That's tricky.
But here's how you can do it!

Dynamic Start and End Date Filter in Tableau
zhlédnutí 667Před dnem
One of my favorite and most-often used date filters in Tableau is a range of dates with dynamic start and end dates. For example, you choose a range of dates (last 7 days, last 14 days, last 30 days, etc.) and then create dynamic start and end date filters that meet that criteria. This is a great way to provide a pre-selected filter range for your users but still give them ultimate control over...

How to Freeze Total Rows in Tableau
zhlédnutí 697Před měsícem
Freezing a total row in Excel is really easy... but in Tableau? Not quite as simple. The default behaviour of total rows in tables in Tableau doesn't include freezing. So to get a static total row, we'll need to create a workaround. We'll use a second worksheet and a sneaky calculation to help us generate the output we want. Sort a Stacked Bar Chart in Tableau from User Selection
zhlédnutí 830Před 2 měsíci
Stacked bar charts are a brilliant visual for displaying how individual segments contribute to the overall value of a category, and how a category ranks in relation to other categories. Like all data visualizations however, it has some weaknesses. One of the biggest weaknesses of a stacked bar chart is that it's hard to compare bar segments when they don't have a shared baseline. What if we are using the date column along with the aggreated column in one calculation? At that time Sum of date cannot be right.. Can you please help me on this to overcome?
Our aggregated fields can be sliced up by whatever dimension is in our view. So, If you have SUM(Sales) with a Date column, then it will calculate the SUM(Sales) for each Date value in the view. So we wouldn't SUM a Date field, but rather SUM a measure. Does that help?

When I put the "In Date Range T/F" field on filters (minute 4.25) I only get False and do not have an option to click on True. Is there a way to fix this?
Hi! Do you have any valid rows of data in the range you've selected on the parameter? If not, I'd change the parameters so that they contain some valid dates and then try to filter on TRUE again.
profit didn't sort from large to smallest.
At 7:45 , What happens if you perform the table calculation across the Category dimension? Does it return the same result?
I don't usually select dimension from the quick select list like that but it looks like that initiated specific dimensions and selected category but de-selected sub-category. You can read up on how Specific Dimensions work here: onenumber.biz/blog-1/2018/1/18/tableau-table-calculations-what-does-specific-dimensions-mean

Have you gained any insight as to why the unique customer count wasn’t matching? I’ve found Pulse to be difficult due to not knowing how it is coming up with certain numbers. And especially with snapshot data. Any insight there?
I had a look round and I couldn't work it out! It seems like there's not much in the way of insight as to how those measures are calculated. Hopefully that's introduced soon.
this is a very curated use case. more often than not you'll receive agg vs non-agg error
what if we wanted to show the Null value results in the view but not in the filter. Ultimately I want the Null results to always be toggled ON and not allow it to be toggled OFF by the user. So in this case, I want only the years to show up in the filter options and the results from the Null values to always be present
This is a hack but I guess you could lump it in with something else. For example.... IFNULL([State],"New York") Then you use the original [State] field in your worksheet but use the IFNULL calculation on filters. It will get funky if someone actually removes New York from the view because it will remove the nulls as well, but it might work.
Very clear and informative. Thanks

Amazing content. Quick question, when launching a dashboard, how I refresh data sources to update each day? "Complete Time" cell doesn't seem to be working for me.
Hey! If you need to refresh your data every day, I would recommend publishing the data as an extract and setting up an extract refresh schedule. You can do that here: help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/publish.htm
Thanks Mate

This is a great idea! Thank you for sharing. However, I am still on my way to searching for the answer for three measures, e.g., sales (need to use currency sign), profit (currency sign but have both positive and negative data), and quantity (no dollar sign). This is a headache. Do you have any suggestions on this?

very useful video, thank you very much! If we had wanted to transpose the dates too, to have the columns date job 1, date job 2 and date job 3. How would you have done it? on the same pivot?
You're welcome! I think I'd create a separate branch and pivot step for the dates. Then you can pivot the dates in a similar fashion and join them back on the employee id. Does that work?
Thank you very much ! I did it in the same branche, I added one transpose before the aggregation. Then i aggregated all the columns at once !

How to get Hidden bar back?
I just spent a few minutes trying out ideas and you stumped me! The only way I can find to do it is with the back button.
Hello, thanks for making this video. What happens if instead of showing a file location it says “table” and the value is not a path but more like a section of the sheet
That sounds like someone applied the Use Data Interpreter feature to a file-based data source. I suppose you'd need to reconnect to the original data source and then select the checkbox next to "Use Data Interpreter" again to recreate the same source file.
Thanks so much Eric this was absolutely brilliant! The hidden values in the filter worked like a charm using the Lookup Table Calc for my client names, however when I use other dimension filters, for instance trying to change Region, it seems to reset the Table Calc filter for the client names each time I filter to a new Region, and my screen goes blank. I am actually trying to use your technique to exclude a single client name value across multiple regions, but it's not working dynamically/interactively when regions are changed with my filter. Does this have to do with the scope of the table calculation perhaps?
Thank you! Can you manually hide them? Like add the "Client Name" field to the Rows shelf, right-click on the one you want to hide and select "Hide"?
How can I highlight both top and bottom in different colors at the same time? Without the use of top and bottom filter.
Hey! How's this? IF RANK(SUM([Value])) <= 3 THEN "Top 3" ELSEIF RANK(SUM([Value]),'asc') <= 3 THEN "Bottom 3" ELSE "Other" END Then you can drop that field on Color and you'll be good to go! 🙏🏻
@@onenumbertableau Thanks a lot, it worked as intended.👍

Thanks for the video. Can you explain the same with Year-Month (latest 2 years = 24 months) in the place of Job Class Description ? Is that possible?
Hey - I think you can, but you would need to adjust your filter accordingly. This simple parameter probably wouldn't work there. You'd need something more like this: czcams.com/video/PM0O3uVJ-Bw/video.html

Hey, thanks for this video. This was very helpful. I tried to implement this and False was only showing up under the columns that i wanted to hide but, when i select the column and click on hide then, entire table is hidden. How do i make sure that just the columns that have false are hidden and not the entire table? Thanks in advance!
Hey! I would do something like: 1. Create a parameter called "Show/Hide Dimension" (Boolean output) 2. Create a calculated field called "Show [Dimension]." This should read: IF [Show/Hide Parameter] THEN [Dimension] ELSE "" END 3. Put this on Rows/Columns That should help!

Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you know if Tableau would be able to take the quadrant chart (QC) you make here and take it a few steps further? Specifically, if I have a data set to populate this sort of color-coded QC each week, could I track the path of a certain point? I know there are connected scatter plots that can do this but would the path and any intermediate points along its path change color if it was in different quadrants each week?
Hi Mitch, I suppose it depends on how the data is structured. Would you have the ability to filter to a prior week to see what the values were then or is your data source "real-time" without the ability to easily filter to prior values?
Hey, great tutorial, really helpful. It will be great if we can get the data for subsequent videos so we can follow along. Thanks again
