A quick look at a DVD Player I've been meaning to fix for the last 2 years...
#philips #dvd #repair #dvdplayer
Hello sir, very good video. You explained logically, people over look things ,work superficially. We are spending money ,so best mechanic/engineer is expected.
clever fix on the gear. A plastic gear on a metal shaft/hub will tend to split over time like that. the plastic shrinks as it ages and is eventually so tight on the metal it splits.
Thanks Birt! =D Yes, always seems to be a common source of failure on CD / DVD drives!
Thanks Brother, always great to see ya an especially when I’ve got the same problems ✌️😊🤣🦉🤖
Thanks =D
thanks Chris just sat down for a bite to eat and I get a notification happy days
Cheers =D
The weather in the Midlands is crap, at least it hasn't rained or hailed or tried to snow like yesterday...
Nice video Chris, It was running so smooth after the Molykote and gear repair :-)
Thanks Vince =D Always a pleasure to see a comment from you, and even more of a pleasure to see one of your uploads!
@@GadgetUK164 Thanks mate. You're a true gent Chris :-)
Hard to keep up with messages! I don't know how on earth you manage it with the level of subs you have lol!!!!
@@GadgetUK164 Haha, I don't really. I try and respond to those that help me the most but unfortunately it would be impossible to get through them all.
Thank you for a great video. My Philips DVD r 3576 H / 37 stuck on NOW Scanning screen. All analog channels were scanned fine but when started the DTV channels stuck on DTV 1. Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks
Honestly not sure, it could be a fault on the receiver - it may just need "recapping", that wouldnt surprise me!
Weather sucks here in the North East - It's bloody cold!
Am of to a static caravan in 6 days for a long weekend. I'm kinda hoping the weather is shit, so I can sit with my Pi3 without being distracted by things such as the internet, bad weather = no form of mobile connectivity lol.
Hehe, it was actually filmed the previous bank holiday - when I think it was super warm all over the UK!
Hope you had a good time?
Nice fix i got an lg dvd player with the surround speakers and sub someone threw out fitted a new laser but messed it up as i stupidly undone both rails the laser slides on so now the alignment for the laser is messed up now thinking about fitting a laser and mech or just keeping the speakers and sub .
Thanks! Ouch! Maybe try disassembling and reassembling it again and tighten up the rails?
Thanks for video! Great stuff....
Cheers =D
The belt on those Philips tray eject mechanisms goes slack if your parents happen to leave a hot Sky+ box on top of it. Ask me how I know...
LOL :o)
My philips blue ray player has the problem that the door doesn't open unless I push it in really hard. Unless there's a disc in, the button won't open the tray. Perhaps I should open it although I have no clue of course.
Sounds like the belt mate! Super easy to sort, but fiddly to get to probably. You could take the belt off, boil it on high in water in microwave for 5 mins, let it cool - refit and it will likely work again. Or just source a replacement belt off eBay. Very common on DVD and Blu Ray players - same issue that plagues the old original XBOX too!
Hello,
I have exactly the same machine, but not working!
Can't reading the disc.
Where can I find the same to replace it?
Probably only the same drive in another unit, or you could try and re-create the gear with a silicone mold, or 3d print something perhaps... Basically if you cannot find or fix the gear, it's game over =(
@@GadgetUK164 thank you very much
My DVD player brand is JVC. The rear left and rear right speaker terminal. While the terminal for subwoofer, and fron L and Front R are not working. How should I troubleshoot?
The fault is probably a failed amplifier chip related to those channels. But it could also be a missing voltage from the PSU board, or bad electrolytic capacitors. Start by measuring the voltages on the PSU board - if you've never worked around exposed PSUs before you might be safer taking it to a repair shop. If you are careful not to electrocute yourself on the PSU, check the voltages it provides are all there. Inspect the capacitors on the board, and test them with an ESR meter. You could scope the audio output and follow it back on the PCB by following the traces to work out where the signals originate and test the input to any audio amplifier IC or transistors.
Thanks Mate…
I like the DVD that you put in 🙂
Me too lol - love the Alien franchise!
grat video! , i have a question i try repair dvd player, motors work , laser works , but no read, all the time on load....where searching the problem?
It could be lots of possibly things - I would start by measuring the PSU board voltages to make sure one isn't low. Beyond that I would suspect focus or tracking coils on the laser. You might find if you swap the laser it starts to work again. Inspect the gears and stuff too, to make sure the carriage can move correctly.
Do you know where I could purchase the small gear you repaired? I have the same issue but could not repair the gear.
For this unit I am not sure there's a spare available! Maybe someone could 3D print one?
Woo Aliens!
They mostly come out at night. Mostly.
An advert on amazon for Electcom dvd player says, "Anti-shock protection ensures for dvd player that you have nothing but uninterrupted viewing pleasure as it reads ahead, and provides a smooth, reliable viewing experience"
I have a dvd -RW which my Sony DVP 760H always freezes on. Fearing the disc to be warped, I keep pressing it between two pieces of glass. It works a little better but not totally cured! I shall keep pressing!
Would "Anti-shock... reading ahead", as described above, be capable of playing my -RW problem disc? In short I am wanting a dvd player I can trust to always play without 'freezing'.
I can't relax when I play a dvd - I fear it will stall or freeze. Should I trust "Anti-shock... reading ahead" mechanism, please?
It sounds like the disc is failing (disc rot) to me. Some brands of CD-R / CD-RW media have lasted around 10 years before they start to suffer read errors. If I were you I would copy that disc on a PC and write it to a new good brand DVD-R.

Thank you for writing. My Panasonic RV32 is 15 years old and still plays everything perfectly! My Sony DVP 760h always freezes on a certain disc. Why does the Panasonic succeed whilst the Sony fails? I was hoping the Electcom would be as 'strong' as the Panasonic(?)
So I've got the same dvd player. Whenever you move the laser is it suppose to move back to a home position
Because it isn't
I also uploaded a video to my channel of what exactly it does when putting a DVD in.
I cannot remember - not all DVD players behave the same way. In general they usually seek back to track 0 / home, and then the laser should illuminate (to reflect back if there's a disc), and then it may bob up and down as it tries to focus.
Спасибо ,помогло
I want repair my Philip's dvp
Which drive mechanism is this player using ?
I have no idea sorry =/
"If you've got a button, use it."
:o)
My phillips dvd player only plays game of thrones and its always sunny in Philadelphia.
"Use the button" ⛪
