    Performance appraisals really suck, and are usually unfair! and are not necessary! I will never wait till the appraisal to tell an employee if they are doing a good job, and I prefer to help them solve any faults they may have in their conduct, attitude or performance, and by the way I never ask them for unrealistic expectations!!

      Your approach towards appraisal to tell beforehand rather than surprise them at appraisal is the right approach.

      It is your choice to be in corporate or not, having said that at times people realise the importance of feedback a good number of years later , when the situation is over and they face similar situation . But yes if the feedback is given sincerely

    It’s great to receive constructive feedback. But what to do if your manager says you have great performance but we cannot give you better ratings and ends with sorry saying we will see next year but the lower performers were given excellent ratings. How to deal with such bias?

    • @UtkarshKumarRai
      @UtkarshKumarRai  Před 5 měsíci

      Your manager saying sorry reflects that your manager has tried your case, but then they might have been overruled by their boss. You have to equip manager with more data about your great work and also build relationship with your manager's boss and also with manager's peer so that they should know you well too. Don't compare with others ratings and salary, but ensure your own good.

      What is the reason given ,is it performance, teaming, attitude or any other issue. Do you agree with that assessment? If agree than work towards it, if not in agreement then setup one on one with manager with calm mind and ask them to guide what and how you can improve. in this video I provided 5 steps to be taken up after bad appraisal .take that In addition to specific one which your manager will tell you to improve. Everyone goes through bad appraisal in their career. Important is to bounce back. Don't waste time sulking take steps.

    Sir,. I have doubt rearding what to do with my appraisal and colleagues.
    Related like office politics. For sales team increment, grade change all is getting without any presuure. Just first manager approves, senior manager and his manager approves without any doubt. No need for years of service.
    But for accounts dept very partiality is happening. No grade change for employees. No increment more than 700 rs. A year. Even work 10 years. Our manager recomend for promotion. Senior manager rejects saying cost controlling. Etc. And if you want grade change. Change to profile, or change the company

    • @UtkarshKumarRai
      @UtkarshKumarRai  Před 3 lety

      Hi Vaishakh, Let us understand 4 things clearly: 1. Each job function has a different budget, different career growth and different importance. It differs from company to company which functions they will give more focus and in which year. Companies where finance and account is support function normally increment, promotions are slower than main functions like sales, engineering, products etc. 2. It is demand and supply challenge, if company thinks they will get people from outside like you with same salary or even less salary then they will not give you promotion or hike even if you stayed for many years in the company. 3. You have to develop better skills in accounts and finance and if the company feels you are the most important person or your skill is difficult to hire or hire but to give a lot of training, then they take care of you. Better you take some additional course and ask for more complex work from your manager. Even the work which people do after promotion, you ask to be done without promotion , once you start performing then they will promote you 4. If your manager is supportive and you are somewhat happy then continue, but if company is giving message that you look out then you should improve your skills in the current company and then look out. Summary: you know your skills and you should be knowing what your skills can get you salary and position in the market and then take a call accordingly.

    1. If senior officer create bad appraisal of his Junior officer

      I remembered when my father used to work in Govt, he helped one colleague who faced this situation. He asked him to write a point to point rebuttal on the appraisal and send it to senior to few others. There must be a committee or few others as per govt rule who review such responses. I remembered that it was address to two others as per Govt rule. He framed response crisply, clearly and with documented facts and figures. It went for two years with two rounds of comments and counter comments from senior and subordinate and finally the comments were expunged and his benefits were restored back dated. check the current govt policy and act accordingly.

Self respect is important but i have seen many professionals in the name of self respect withdraws from the situation. Understand No one is ideal , neither manager nor employee. Same person who appears ideal in some situation may not appear ideal in another.There is no way but to move forward with 5 steps mentioned in the video. With positive mindset as you also hinted and actions, you will see the change in the due course of time as i also shared with my own story.

      There are checks and balances in the company. Accountability is assigned to the employee and their chain of management. Mostly such accountability is non financial in nature unless the employee handbook says so which you have signed it.

    • @UtkarshKumarRai
      @UtkarshKumarRai  Před 3 lety

      The fundamentals is still the same. On phone one has to be more patient and ask follow up questions without getting defensive. You might not be agreeing to everything, but first listen and ask for examples where you need more clarification. Best to ask for another meeting to give you time to process the information. Choose only those you thing you should improve and see your manager support in it. Rest of it don't sweat if you do have anything now to improve, but keep that in back of your mind as sometimes something strikes later only.
