Yalta, the Twilight of the Big Three

- Hear how the Yalta Conference of 1945 - in which Franklin D Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin met to discuss Europe's post-war reorganisation - led to enmity.
What really happened in Yalta? For a week in February 1945, Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill, the leaders of the three great powers allied against Nazism, met to discuss the end of the war and the future of the world, during one of the most important international conferences of all time.
While on the ground, Americans, British and Soviets were fighting against Hitler, in the hushed salons of Yalta the Big Three with different interests and ambitions waged a merciless struggle. Because beyond their common enemy, the "big three" had different ambitions and interests, which they sometimes sought to preserve at all costs. Pressures, bluffs, secrets, espionage, intimidation: this film tells, based on the memories of the participants and their diaries, the captivating backstage of one of the greatest conferences of the 20th century.

This is a piece of untold WW2 history that so few know, but everyone should learn. Great documentary.
14:26 A critical point is made here . In context , by the time of the Yalta Conference , there were 6.8 million solders of the Soviet Army already in Eastern Europe , most of Poland and 80 km from Berlin . So Stalin was holding most of the cards .
.
@@landsea7332 Yes, but he would never be in that position if not for unconditional and unpaid lend-lease aid. This was the utter stupidity of the FDR regime that American's had never had to scrutinize their actions for. The untold long-term consequences of REALLY supporting one evil dictator over another, has to be scrutinized, instead of the hypocritical standard WWII-narrative. One of the two worst tyrants of modern history, was deliberately allowed to get unconditional massive aid, treated as an "ally", even if he jointly started the war and ended up with at least double the amount of dead people in his own population, and getting control over half of Europe, including Poland, that was the initial cause of the war in Europe.
Some went to massive certain death infantry assaults, some went to the Gulags to basically work and starve themselves to death, some ethnic groups were relocated en masse and left to die, but many were simply shot on the spot by the NKVD, individually or in group due to ethnicity
So how can you defend that US policy? To this day we are seeing Russian troops steamrolling into Ukraine, waving the Soviet flag and glorifying Stalin. Not mentioning the untold tens of millions murdered for the communist cause that followed that or perceived social class.
We cannot rewrite history, but we can be honest about it, and on this issue, Americans will defend their cause to the last man, with a few notable exceptions.
A piece of WW2 history few know (in the lower echelons), that ties into the present -- and future... is that Donald Trump is the reincarnation of General George Patton. Will he fight for freedom again -- this time for the future of the world absolutely? We can only hope so, for war there will be.
There are a lot of lies on which the civilization of the British and Americans is built.
This is just on another level.....great piece of history to say the least.
the ideas & vision of these three men shaped the course of the post WW2 world with significant & indelible consequences

Thank you! Great content!
Winston Churchill won the war and lost the British Empire. Roosevelt sat in the helmet for 2 years and only invaded Europe when he realized that the Red Army was about to invade and defeat Germany alone. Stalin bled and won the war in Europe, but he knew it would be foolish to try to confront the US and England militarily (something that was already being considered by Winston Churchill). Yalta consolidates the bipolar world in a context in which England had not yet realized that it would not have a dominant role in the post-war period.
The United States entered the war for two reasons, first because of Japan's treacherous attack on Pearl Harbor, and second because Germany declared war on it. These are two powerful reasons that have nothing to do with the Soviet Union, in fact when the United States entered the war in 1941, the Soviet Union was taking a tremendous beating from the Nazis... The Nazis were defeating the Soviet Union .

THE FORMER USSR DIDN'T WIN BECAUSE OF STALIN'S MILITARY BUNGLING/STUPIDITY, THEY WON INSPITE OF HIM! KHRUSCHEV IN 1956 MADE HIS SECRET SPEECH DENOUNCING STALIN'S CRIMINAL REIGN & STATED HE WAS A CRIMINAL WHO MADE TOO MANY WARTIME & POSTWAR ERRORS TO BE REMEMBERED AS A GREAT WARTIME LEADER. REMEMBER TOO THAT THE SUPREME SOVIET COUNCIL MADE THE DECISION TO REMOVE STALIN'S BODY FROM RED SQUARE & REBURY IT NEXT TO A KREMLIN WALL BLOCKED PARTIALLY FROM VIEW BY TREES. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU ABOUT THAT MAN'S HORRIBLE LEGACY! HE ORDERED THE KILLING OF OVER 10 MILLION RUSSIAN CIVILIANS & GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS & MILITARY HEADS EVEN BEFORE WW-2 STARTED! 2 giants Stalin and Roosevelt and one pygmy they carried on their shoulders, Churchill.
NOTE: THIS IS THE STUPIDEST AND MOST INSULTING BLOG I'VE EVER SEEN! THE LATE PRIME MINISTER WINSTON CHURCHILL WAS NOT A PYGMY-ANYTHING BUT! THAT ELDERLY PRIME MINISTER SAVED WESTERN CIVILIZATION FROM A HORRIBLE TYRANNY & UNTIL THE US ENTERED THE WAR IN DECEMBER 1941, BRITAIN HELD THE FORT AGAINST A TIDE OF TYRANNY-WAKE UP FOOL! YES THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT MADE MANY CONTROVERSIAL DECISIONS DURING & AFTER THE WAR, SOME GOOD, OTHERS ANYTHING BUT, THAT'S WARTIME FOR YOU. ONCE THE GRAND ALLIANCE WAS FORMED, IT WAS ALL OVER FOR NAZI GERMANY AS THE RED ARMY, VIA THEIR GRAND MILITARY CAMPAIGNS DURING THE WAR. BUT REMEMBER, BY GENERALLISSIMO' S OWN ADMISSION TO HIS INNER CIRCLE, HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR LEND-LEASE & WESTERN AID IN GENERAL, THE FORMER USSR WOULD PROBABLY HAVE LOST THE WAR! THE RUSSIAN POPULACE WAS NEVER TOLD OF THESE ADMISSIONS BY HIGH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN THE FORMER USSR. WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY & NOTICE THAT CHURCHILL GOT FRANCE AN OCCUPATION ZONE IN OCCUPIED GERMANY. HE WANTED ANOTHER COLONIAL POWER TO UNITE W/HIM AGAINST POWERFUL ALLIES THAT WILL SOON DOMINATE THE COLD WAR IN THE COMING POST-WAR YEARS. (RIP) TO THE GREAT MAGNIFICENT BRITISH PRIME MINISTER SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL, A TRUE TITAN AND LITERARY MASTER OF PROSE AFTER THE WAR. THRU SHEER FORCE OF WILL, HE GUIDED HIS COUNTRY TO FINAL VICTORY, BUT AT A HUGE COST OF MONEY & LOSS OF MOST OF THE FORMER BRITISH EMPIRE WHICH BECAME EVENTUALLY THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS. BY WAR'S END, GREAT BRITAIN WAS PRACTICALLY BROKE & IT TOOK THEM UNTIL FY 2005, TO PAY BACK THE MONEY OWED TO THE US TREASURY DEPT!

By the time of the Yalta conference, cancer had nearly totally permeated Roosevelt. He was in immense pain and it was nothing short of a miracle that he didn’t die there.
I have read quite a bit about FDR, including books on the final years of his life, when he was in poor health. I’m not aware of any claims that FDR had cancer, what proof can you provide that proves FDR had cancer? What we do know, was that he was in severe heart failure for the last 18 months of his life. His heart eventually gave out, which is what led to his death via cerebral hemorrhage.
I've never heard of FDR's cancer.

What an eye opening bit of history. This has confirmed my poor opinion of both Churchill and Roosevelt. They were all talk and bluster while Stalin sat back and took everything he wanted. Stalin, by far was the better player. He played the Western leaders like a fiddle. Too bad Roosevelt didn’t live to see the fool that he was.
Did you miss the part where the cheater Stalin spied on his opponents by bugging everywhere the might be and then was not true to his word when the conference ended?

Great documentary. The bottom line is if you want peace, prepare yourself for war.
Potsdam came after Yalta, but I'm sure that was even more tense than Yalta was.

No hubo tiempo. .

Churchill was a strong individual. It was rumored he drank a lot and smoked cigars, weight problem however he lived to be 90! Wow! Strong mind and body! I’ve always liked and respected him. RIP Sir
Yes lmao tough guy
A criminal against humanity, period!
One of the best film
Thank good chanel
