Hey Dagnel! I know you said you’re not a very social person, but I think a collab on this channel would be fun! Especially with someone like BrianMp16, who’s just as knowledgeable as you on the GC version. I left a comment about this before, but if you two did a challenge video using the GC version that would be so entertaining! Maybe one of those bingo board race things where each space has a challenge like, “pay off your first debt” or even something easy like “complete a job for a villager”? Keep up the great content!
Did you take the Caltrain from the San Jose station? I think it could be faster to take BART from Berryessa/North San Jose to one of the stops in SF, via the Green Line Northbound.

Dagel - no point in doing Streetpass anymore , VERY few people own a 3DS or play 3DS games.
GAMESTOP even shutdown its Streetpass service years ago.
One of the saddest Streetpass related moments of my life was during a trip to Disneyland I brought my 3DS but I turned internet off on the plane and forgot to turn it back on until the second to last day of the vacation. Thinking about all the puzzle pieces I might have missed…

You don't get streetpasses from internet bruh. It's 3DS to 3DS communication, it doesn't use a network.
I actually keep my streetpass on but I mainly keep my 3ds on to get those coins that I can use in animal crossing on the fortune cookies. I used to shake my ds like crazy to get all 10,000 steps but I decided to actually use it the way it is intended. It’s been a great motivator for me to get out and walk more. Maybe we should all use our streetpass so that we know who’s part of the Dagnel crew in our area😂

During the height of the 3DS, I was living in Japan. Even though I lived in the middle of nowhere, I still got so many streetpasses. I'd have to clear it several times an hour when I visited bigger cities.

@Dagnel You need to save up and do a sequel where you try to get a streetpass at Comiket in Tokyo, because if you're gonna get one anywhere anymore, it'd almost certainly be there haha. It only took seconds to get 10 passes there. Love your vids, man!
I visited Tokyo in 2013 and I had to clear every few minutes 😭 such good days.
As a child I barely went outside because my neighbourhood had high crime rates. But when I did go outside I brought my 3DS along, and I still was able to grab streetpasses! I miss it so much
Something that surprised me is that I actually got tagged when I was just walking around my neighborhood recently, And the funny thing is…I live in a lower class neighborhood
Even at the height of the 3DS' lifetime, we used to have to arrange meetups in Wellington,New Zealand in 2013 in order to get streetpasses. Even back then it was like you needed to be walking around central Tokyo to ever get a genuine one. But years later when New Horizons came out all those same people visited my island during the pandemic. So that was fun.
Even though I didn't live in a big city, I still got quite a few around 2013-2014. Kinda like Pokemon GO, no matter what, there were always people playing around you!
I used to get lots in 2014 when I was in high school. Some people had a 3DS and I would pass them every day!

When I visited Japan in 2014 I took my 3DS with me, so did one other student on the trip. We would get streetpasses filling up in minutes, in Akihabara it was practically instant. I filled so many puzzle pieces and the other student who kept his charged more often got a streetpass from every part of japan and then some by the end of the trip. Trains were especially great because you would get streetpasses from people as you passed each stop. The next time I visit, hopefully in the next few years, I plan on taking my 3DS again and comparing. Maybe 2024 for a 10 year anniversary?

The 3DS is picking up a lot of traction right now in the ACNH community. You could make this a long term experiment to track the 3DS resurgence. I really enjoyed this video, and I'm sorry you didn't get any Streetpasses. I used to live across from an elementary school that also had a huge public baseball/soccer field. I got tons of streetpasses whenever there was a game!
Do you know why it's gaining traction? I'm not active with the ACNH community anymore.
@@bobbob1876 I think people are frustrated with the lack of content updates, and are seeing that the 3DS is easily to mod. New Leaf has a lot of support in the modding community, and I think people are seeing that as a safer alternative to modding their switches. And with the 3DS eShop shutting down, people are scrambling to get everything they want all set up on it and that is drawing in attention too.

Aw, I really wish there was still something like StreetPass in 2023! I travelled to the UK with my 3DS ~10 years ago and got LOADS of passes going through airports and other busy places upon arrival. I remember being really proud seeing all those different flags! Crazy how much things change in a decade :(
I miss the 3ds era where everyone was carrying theirs around!! I've recently gotten back into the 3ds again after they announced the closure of the eshop and have been having so much fun. I'm excited to someday get a streetpass again...
I brought my 3DS to one of the busiest airports on the world... Not a single streetpass. Got one in London Heathrow though

Great video. Honestly, this makes me feel like carrying my 3DS around again. Makes me kinda sad to see that you got no streetpasses, when only 10 years ago it would have been popping off! Just so insane how much can change in a decade...
About 4 years ago I was playing New Leaf again for nostalgia and funsies and took my 3ds on holiday to Brussels - a place where I'd gotten 100s of streetpass back in 2013. Didn't get a single thing. Sad times, man. :(

This was a really lovely video!!! It's quite sad to see the era of the 3DS come to an end, it really feels like it was in its heyday only yesterday even though it was actually like a decade ago. Either way, this was a fantastic video!! I really admire the care and effort you put into these challenges and experiments and I'm always excited to see what new stuff you're cooking up, especially more out-of-the-box ideas like this one!! Was never that huge into the 3DS so I didn't care much for streetpass and I never really brought it with me to places but seeing that you got NONE is pretty wild. I know some 3DS diehards that still use it very often. Would've thought that a single one wouldn't be impossible.

When I was doing Pokemon TCG tournaments back in the day. The 3ds was a staple for the video game portion of the tournament. I collected well over 900 people thru Streetpass during that time. So maybe you can try a Pokemon TCG/VG Tournament in your area that could have the chances of having people using their Ds if they brought it.

I think the chances are probably higher if you go somewhere that has many families with kids around because I feel that the 3DS is now mostly used by kids. But that might also come across as a bit creepy 😅
I don't think kids really play the 3DS anymore. If this was 2013 sure... but the kids that played 3DS back then are now young adults. Kids today are using a switch or iPhone.
i feel like it would be the opposite. people who use 3ds regularly are people who probably used it back when it came out and are long time fans of the console/nostalgic for the games they played then

Funnily I got most my street passes while in Uni.
Granted, I was on a game development course so surrounded by gamers daily
I never realised what streetpass actually was when I used my 3DS I just remember liking the number of steps going up and the coins you got, I used to either shake my 3DS like crazy ot walk round my house to collect them lol. I really do miss the 3DS
I grew up with the 3Ds, so seeing him do a challange about the streetpass system doesnt only give me huge nostalgia, it also makes me happy to see that the 3Ds lives on even if the production has long stopped

I really hope this video encourages more people to bring out their 3DSs now with the generation being almost over it is sad to see it slowly go. With the closure of the eshop later this month I hope more people will hack then and be encouraged to play again!!!
I really liked the editing of this vid!! I know IRL streams and vlogs aren't your style but I would totally enjoy more videos like this :) And I think it was so well executed (my fav was the music & scenic shots) especially for this being your first irl content
Streetpass reminds me of how 2 of my online friends street passed each other and had no idea until much later, they didn't even know they were in the same area at the same time, crazy how they'd have never known without it
this video has kinda inspired me to bring my 3ds around with me during college from now on, it's sorta like a fun surprise to check if you got one and i wanna try do the same!

I live about an hour away from San Francisco, and even used to work in the Financial District about 20 years years ago. I used to go hiking and do photography on my days off, and have covered about 3/4 of the city on foot. So it's funny seeing all those places in the video and knowing exactly where they are. If this video was done in 2013, we definitely would have crossed paths and exchanged Streetpass information. I used to get at least a dozen pings every time I went, especially at the Gamestop on Market Street and the interior of Westfield. Same goes with the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. But I stopped carrying my 3DS around late 2015, because I was more focused on photography; I was carrying so much heavy gear, and I didn't want to risk getting mugged. I added the biggest memory card I could to my 3DS and have tons of games on it, so losing it would drive me crazy.
It was really interesting to see someone else try this! I take my 3ds with me if I plan on going around very populated areas, sadly just like your results I haven't gotten anything yet

If you ever repeat this experiment in a different location, try to look for local anime conventions/comicons/video game conventions that you can walk past. Those are the only places I can reliably get StreetPasses these days.

I remember how I lived in area where I couldn't really get stresspasses. But once a year we'd visit my grandparents, so I always turned on my 3ds at the airport and got a bunch. I was so happy when they helped me get lunala in pokemon
I didn't realize just how much I missed street pass until this video.
I remember I didn't get my 3ds until a few years into its existence (because I didn't have the money as a teen lol) so the height of people bringing their 3ds with them was already over, but I would still get the occasional one (especially if I walked past a game or electronics store)
And anytime I visited a convention (which I did do a lot back then, not so much nowadays) my street pass filled within minutes. Anytime me and my friends took a break and sat down somewhere first thing would be to check our street passes.
People usually adjusted their greetings to be relevant to the con as well so that was fun.
This brings so much nostalgia I remember I barely got any streetpass since I live away from the city but maybe I'll start bringing my 2ds around

I did something similar to this back in november of 2022 when I went on a trip to NYC. I brought my 3DS with me thinking that surely I would get a streetpass during that time, but after walking around a large chunk of the city every day I ended with nothing :( I remember the prime era of the 3DS where I could bring it to school with me every day and I’d get at least 2 or 3 every day. Great vid though! I would love to see more like this!
Surprisingly got one when I carried my 3ds for the first time in a while. It was cool to see some people have them out.

I took my 3ds to Pride in SF 2022 and had 10 street passes when I checked after the event! I was totally surprised & it was awesome.
I really loved this different style of content I know you've said that you've been getting burt out by animal crossing but I love all of your videos and I really love just all of your content so im super happy by the change! keep up the awesome work!

I never had a 3DS but always wanted one as a kid. It was cool watching you tour San Francisco and was hoping you’d get a street pass despite not knowing at first what you were talking about! Did you end up getting the ACNH build a bear? Also was that Lolli & Pops candy shop?! I absolutely love that place! Love this type of video and every video you make! Keep it up! ❤️
From the summer of last year to the summer of this year I always carried my 3DS with me, if only for the coins I get to buy the fortune cookies. I got a streetpass ONCE when a group of about 15-17 year olds came to the place I worked at. I sadly saw it after they left, because you know, I had to work, but it made me kind of happy to see at least one person carry around their 3DS. Its sad that the 3DS era is coming to an end, but we had a lot of fun with it and we can still show the kids of today what games we played on the 3DS and maybe they will find some fun in them too.

Aw this video makes me so sad! I actually live in SF and play my 3DS a ton, though I don't bring it out of the house very often. (Very relieved your 3DS wasn't stolen tbh, my biggest fear and reason to not take consoles out on public transit much).

Fun story, a friend of mine once found a functioning Wii U on the street in SF. This was in the western half of the city, closer to the Stonestown mall you went to. He took it home thinking the owner probably threw it out for being broken but was pleasantly surprised to see it worked perfectly! Even had Mario and a few other games loaded on it! So I guess that's about the level of respect old Nintendo consoles are getting around these parts.
In the early 2010s I brought my 3Ds with me on a family road trip. I got so many street passes it was crazy. I miss those days and wish people would carry their 3Ds around more.
I was a traveling consultant in airports all the time in 2015--that was the heyday of streetpasses. Getting other people's dark links is my favorite and I'm reluctant to even fight them in the game now.
I think the best place to still get streetpasses is anime/comic conventions. I know not everyone can always go to those, but if you do go to one maybe bring yours and see. I have one in my city I go to every year (minus covid) and this last summer, I got a ton of them in one weekend.
Super wished I saw the Reddit post, or better yet, something about meeting up at the Shark Tank. I have a 3ds and live in San Jose and would have been down to walk past you, not talking or interacting, only giving a knowing nod that I did my part by passing you on the street.
I bring my 3ds to work pretty regularly and get streetpasses maybe once every 2 weeks. Definitely nothing compared to when it first released, but I didnt realize the 3ds market was this dead in more populated areas :(

i miss the 3ds era. Me and my friends used to tie our 3ds to our bikes and ride around for the coins. Playing that mii town game with friends and collecting puzzles, animal crossing new leaf, all the pokemon games (xy mostly!!), drawing in the little drawing thing, and all the other things! I also remember going to an airport and getting like 500385712513 streetpasses. I have so many memories with the 3ds, basiccally my entire childhood

I'm so jealous! The last time I went to San Francisco (2,100 mile sight-seeing drive on the way to visit my family) the weather was so bad. It was my husband's first time being west of Texas, and we had our 3yo son with us. The whole 3 days the clouds were so low you couldn't even see the top of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I’ll never forget how during the active era of the 3DS my first Streetpass for FE Awakening WASN’T New York Comic Con, it was a hospital 2 hours from my house while I was getting surgery (just a regular gallbladder removal). Someone else in the pediatric area of the hospital brought their 3DS and happened to also have that game- wild stuff.
I feel like the closest thing to a surefire place in the country to get streetpasses still is New York - specifically the Nintendo New York store. MAYBE the Universal parks will be decent hotspots too, but those attract an even more general audience compared to the NYC store.

when i was a kid got a posh ice white 3ds (or at least it always seemed fancy to me) in like 2011 and a few of my neighbours had a 3ds too but that was pretty much it, streetpass never really took off where i lived and a lot of the other kids i knew already had an earlier ds or psps (they were cool i miss those) and didnt upgrade, but i also lived in a little town nowhere near a city so it could also have been that. would really love to see the 3ds make a comeback it was so fun in primary school when on the last day we all got to bring in our ds and would play the mario games together, like only one of you needs the game and four can play that was so cool

i remember during peak 3DS years i went to an anime convention and brought my 3DS and my GOD the streetpasses i got. I kinda wish the switch had a streetpass kinda thing too. its so fun

I really liked this video! You should check out college/university campuses and walk around whenever you travel. I usually get a streetpass or two per semester whenever I’m on mine.

I brought my 3ds to the mario movie at the movie theaters and after watching the movie i got no one, but after i came home, i found out that my 3ds was lighting green just a few minutes ago and saw my first ever streetpass, i did bring my 3ds to somewhere few times before but no one with a 3ds was nearby.
Never thought that this would happen so soon, especially because it's now 2023 and got the 3ds since last year.
Still happy that i got my first streetpass in 2023!
