- Shiny rings are nice, but adding textures can create a unique look to a ring! Brush finishes are great for a matte look. Stone finishes can brighten up a ring with deep texturing. Hammer finishes are created by making a bunch of individual hammer indentations around an entire ring.

My weddingband is hammered and brushed, I love it so much! I didn't want stones in the ring but did want a unique look. No regrets!
Is it hard to keep clean?
@@hopegold883 not at all!
This is kind of what I want, for a true 'stone' look. Probably going to be sooooo expensive 😢 but I love a nature inspired ring, and my love is my rock
@@meganralston2911 not so expensive as having stones in your ring ;)
@@gisedekoning 🥺 I want that too 🤣 It's okay, it will just be a solitaire moissanite
The hammer finish is by far my favourite.
I'd never even heard of the Stone finish, and now I think I'm in love 😍 It gives the metal an almost cats-eye kind of shine
It’s nice, I wonder if it has a rougher texture.
The editing and commentary were really useful for someone just getting in to jewelry making! Thanks.
Mo very happy to be of help!
i love the hammered look. it's subtle and still polished cuz i love shiny things
I got my ex-girlfriend a hammered ring for christmas in 2019, it is a really narrow and overall fragile looking ring and I love how it looks. Still see her wearing it in school, which makes me happy. It really suits her.
🔷These were especially popular in the '70's.
🔶The "brushed" or Florentine Finish peaked in the '50's-early '60's.
🔷Hammering was big in the '60's.
🔶The "stone" or Satin Finish was everywhere in the '70's.
🔷Next I expect the '80's Diamond Cut to come back. 😀
Now I know a bunch of exciting things about rings and now I can think about lot of things that can apply to my wedding ring👰💍 thanks to you🤗
Stone and hammered finishes look magnificent
I’ve always liked the sand blasted look.
We have weddingbands with 2 colors of gold and 2 finishes. The white gold is brushed and the rose gold is brushed and hammered. My ring has an additioal lttle diamond in it. Very happy we chose this. This reminds me that the brushing as to be done again because over time the rings get a bit more shiny.
The brushed hammered band is my favourite! It´s so unique! Even if you make the same band again - It will never have the same pattern
Love all of those textures but my boyfriend loved the brushed look
Haven't heard of the brushed look before but definitely loving it! Thanks for sharing with us!
ravissant87 so glad I could show you something new!
I love the stone finish best!
Not going to lie I knew about hammered bands. But the brush and stone look are brand new ideas to me. I've always believed that when I do get married I will have to have two sets of rings one for fancy occasion with stone in it and one that's more of an everyday band. Something a little more hard wearing that I can do work around the house in and still have my ring on. I'm very seriously considering this stone look now. Because it is bright and bold in its own way but without the stones or pins to snag on stuff.
All 3 steps combined together are perfect👍
Love the stone finish.
I loved the stone finish!!
You are talented!!
Thanks for making my decision on wedding ring so much harder 🙃❤
i love the hammered look. it's so pretty
Nothing beats the hammered!
I love the hammered look.
Damn, I keep getting engagement ring videos recommended to me on CZcams. Hopefully my boyfriend is getting the same recommendations 😉
In all seriousness, these craftsman videos are so captivating! Such great production too!
I love the hammered look
3d and 4th are magnificent 😍
stone finish is by far my favorite. But i have a question is there a finish to make it look like the gold is sparkling? kinda like a bling sparkle? I thought sand blast would actually be it but it isnt since sand blast finish gives off that crater type look. Is there a gold finish that looks like glitter almost?
love the first one.
100% agree
I once had a teddy bear charm, that I loved. I thought it was hammered but seeing your ring I'm not sure what texture it was. I like the stone texture the most.
You posted a story about this video. Loved the format so I subscribed, no brainer.
Maiköl Verasson haha! You’re great. Thanks for being here
I agree with this CZcamsr, #2 looks real nice on silver in real life. I got a super shiny silver ring which is 8mm in width. Since it's so wide and super shiny it looks cheap and tacky. It kind of looks like a ring made out of aluminum foil. Hard to pull off the look unless you are super avant garde artsy type. So I used a kitchen scrubber at home to achieve #2 look and it's so beautiful.
What about sandblasted? I think that also looks nice!
Best Video 👍 I Love the brushed finish so much! Would love a dainty white Gold with that finish maybe 🤔
Congratulations for the video, very explanatory, I would like to ask you a question: what about sandblasting a ring? Is it permanent? does it become very delicate to wear on the finger regarding scratches?
Our wedding bands are hammered and we love how it makes them unique but not to fancy😄
Love these textures!!! The stone was my favorite!! QUESTION: how are you getting the hammered finish without changing the size of the ring? When I try this I always end up stretching the band. Thanks for all you share!! New subscriber and really excited to be here!!
Its almost impossible to hammer a ring without making it .25 to .5 size larger. When I make a hammered ring I will usually hammer silver sheet first and then measure out a strip in the exact size I need. That way I always get accurate sizing.
@@lilianakovac8537 thats a great idea!! Thank you so much for the tip Liliana!!! Happy New Year!
Thank you for the demonstration! How do you make sure the ring doesn't get sized up while hammering? I've had to resize my ring twice, after I gave it the hammered texture, it was a half size larger than what it should've been. I would really appreciate some tips! :)
Lovely video, thank you for sharing useful tips!)
Hey man I originally found you through imgur. I'm really enjoying your content and you've got production value. Keep it up.
The Olmstead Workshop thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you made it
Thank you!
I want a hammered ring now! :O
Great video!!!
Great video !!! i was wondering if you also have videos on making 2 tone men wedding bands or the ones which have a bezel cut out in the middle in a different color gold?
You didn’t mention the stretching that occurs when hammering a finish. How do you account for that when you are fabricating the ring to ensure the finished ring is properly sized?
@Modern Goldsmith Hey bro just came across your channel researching jewelry frosting or sandblasting great video
Would I be able to do a hammered look on a copper folding knife scale also? But I feel like it may change the shape of the knife scale, as it will need to be screwed back onto the knife body.
Can you please make more videos like this
Would you do anything with a sandblasted finish???
I made our wedding ring, 1 side hammered and 1 side wood hammered
What do you use for that band? What ga sheet or wire? Good video. Thanks!
Love this! 👏😍
How would you inlay the texture on a pendant or ring?
What grit did you used to get that stone finish?
what type of mizzy wheel i have to use to archive to stone finish likes in the video?
I would love you to link where you get the texturing brushs etc from would be really helpfully.
Is the satin finish buff considered Coarse or Medium?
can the ring be refinished over and over again? Is a lot of material lost every time you brush or polish it?
I can't speak exactly for jewellery, but with metal watches (especially ones made from softer gold) machine polishing is actually discouraged because you can lose the sharp edges and creases on a watch case, and it can really build up if the watchmaker isn't too precise or you polish it too often. That's why polished vintage watches typically sell for much cheaper than mint condition but unpolished ones.
Can the hammered finish be restored to a ring where it's worn off? My husband's ring had a hammered finish, but almost 25 years later it's smooth.
How would I get the matte finish on silver beads without using the wheel since the the beads are so small?
hey im just getting into ring making what would you recommend for must have tool to get started?
Potter Lallone a jewelers bench, soldering kit, rawhide, saw, mandrel, bench pin!
Gracias buen video...very good...
How would you achieve a hammered texture on a hollow item?
@modern Goldsmith I'm looking to get the brushed finish on my large 999 silver cable link chain. I'll be using a Dremel for this... Is there an attachment you would recommend for this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
What kind of brush to use in satin finishing a ring with colored stones?
Thank you for you good video. There is a particular texturing that i want to show and you tell me how its achieved. How can i show you?
I actually hated 1 and 2, adored 3 and loved 4.
Hello,
Where can I find a stone "drill" like yours ?
Thank you very much
Hi, what hand piece do you use with your flex shaft?
Thanks in advance.
Tina
Hello, what are the dimensions of the ring?
What do you call the brush that you use? I'm trying to search it and buy one. Thank you!
I want my engagement ring to be a thin mate hammered band with a sapphire stone!
Your stone is moissanite!
Neat!❤️✌️
I have a brush finish on my wedding ring, so it’ll always be my favorite.
Stone
Where to get stone finished wheel?
Dremel has a silicon carbide polishing wheel that looks similar to this one
Can you mix and match? :0
Can i use 1000 grit sand paper?
Sandpaper does work too!
@@moderngoldsmith thanks
NO texture please, I want raw casted look.
