    After watching another video, I took the top control relay out, tapped in on the ground a few times, re-installed it and the top worked great.

    Wow you have put in a lot of work on your Boxster. Once you get the previous owner problems fixed you will find they are very good cars.

      You're right. Everything I've done has made it a little better and I'm really enjoying it. I have a question though. With everything I've done the car is running great and sounding great, except in the mornings when it's cold and I have the top up. There is a lot of little rattles and squeaks that are driving me crazy because I can't seem to locate the source of most of them. Some of it is coming from the roof and the rest just seem to be all around. I don't notice it as much in warmer weather, but I usually have the roof down. Do you, or have you had this experience?

      @@jasonsporschechannel945 yes my car does squeak a bit but I think most of mine is the seat leather in the roll bar.

    Hi Jason! Love your series on your Boxster. Quick question, where did you get the new linkage from? and did it come pre-painted?

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před 2 lety

      I got it from eBay used, and yes it was painted, but not the right color red. So I painted it with some paint I had at work that was very close to the cars color.
      Thanks for watching

      Unfortunately (though fortunate for me) I haven't had to replace the top motor. Maybe someone else out there reading this can give us some pointers. Thanks for watching.

    How did you fix the 2mm-3mm rod rise on the passenger side of the clam shell cover? Mine is doing the same thing. Thanks for the awesome videos!! I just had my Sierra top installed and am using your video on closing the gap at the windshield as well.

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před rokem +1

      Mine was raised before I replaced the broken part; after, it was flush. I don't know a way to adjust it up and down. Does yours have something under it pushing up? The clam shell, just like the trunk lids, are made of very thin material. It may have gotten warped. You might be able to carefully massage it down and into place. Sorry I don't have a better answer. Thanks for watching.

      @@jasonsporschechannel945 the same bracket is definitely loose, so I’m thinking that I may need to replace that as well. It certainly became more prominent after installing the new top, but the top needs some adjustments that the shop did not know know how to make (closing the gap as you did in third video) which will probably help. Thanks again for the very informative videos!

    Can you explain in more detail how you checked the relay. I see the wires are attached to what looks like a blue fuse inside a yellow box. I understand the wires being placed into the relay holes, but not how you did it. Total Porsche novice here. Thanks!

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I like to use the wires with fuses incase I accidentally plug into a wrong hole the fuse will blow before something on the car. You can get these at an auto parts store, or I got mine at a True Vale hardware. I used 15 amp fuses for this project. If you understand which holes to plug into, then do the first wire, and then the second, but be ready to pull the second out as soon as you hear the electric motor for the roof.

    Great video! My Boxster top goes up pr down only when I use wires to jump the connections where the relay goes. I ordered a replacement relay but the top still will not move. Could the new relay be a lemon? Or could something else be the problem?

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před 2 lety

      That would be my first guess. You say it works when you jump it, that tells me everything else works. If you knew someone with a car whose top worked, you could swap relays to check yours. Or you could try to return it and get another one. I know they are expensive, so I wish you luck. Thanks for watching.

    So do you think the relay was actually bad or the rocker switches had a disconnect? Did you return the relay? I am curious if I replace the relay and that isn't the problem, will the dealership take it back....

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před 3 lety

      I plugged the original relay back into the car and was going to save the new one, but found out that the old one wouldn't let the top go up. So I did need the new one after all. I don't know if the dealership would take back the relay or not. The cheapest way you could do it is find someone with a 986 that you know has a good relay and try theirs in your car. I doubt you could hurt it, unless you plugged it in wrong.
      Good Luck

    • @jasonsporschechannel945
      @jasonsporschechannel945  Před 3 lety

      I read you comment again, and would like to add that I found that someone unplugged the rocker switch because the linkage for the clam shell was broken and was binding with the roof and making holes in the drip pans. They unplugged it so no one would try to open the roof and cause more issues. I don't know whether or not the relay was bad before then or not.

      @@jasonsporschechannel945 Thanks Jason your video and info has been extremely helpful. I will try the relay test. My rocker switches on dash are wonky too. Hoping it's just the relay.
