    Very good explanation and it replaced a couple of safety pins that the previous owner had used

    Thanks for the great guidance. I was dreading this job but it turned out to be easier than I expected thanks to the video. The screw on a 987.2 is a Torx 15. I only went so far as to adjust the length of the existing elastic by putting the screw through a different slot in the elastic. I removed the screw to do this, but in hindsight I probably only had to loosen it to change the slot that was used. My elastic was still somewhat stretchy. I can always do the elastic replacement if needed in the future.

    Nice one mate - had the same issue for the last couple of years - I was stopping the hood half way then getting out and placing the fabric in the guide before fully closing- will not fix it properly as you have shown 👍

    Cheers mate, doing mine this weekend.
    My leak left water on the passenger door well and killed the rear control module which is over £400....so if yours needs doing get it done sharpish.

      Don't think I have any leaks, but its not the best idea of Porsche to put electrics on the floor of a convertible is it lol....

    My 1997 986 does not have the elastic held with a torx. It only has one Velcro loop. I'm assuming it was an early production model. And yes, it does have this issue but only on the US passenger side where the cover has pulled away from where it gets fastened to the end of the steel wire. Needs to be sewn back in place, not easy to do in such a tight space.

    Hi there , thanks for the video it’s very informative.
    It looks really straightforward, how long was the new piece of elastic ?

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  Před 11 měsíci

      I bought 1/2 a meter and that was way too much, each strip is probably around 10cm per side

    When the hood is retracted in the well there is tension on those elastic straps. How are the staples holding up?

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  Před rokem

      Absolutely fine, I went overboard and can’t see them coming loose anytime soon, most people use this method

    Very strange seeing another porsche boxster in atlas grey, with the blue roof and cayman s wheels, thought mine was unique 😅😅😅

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  Před rokem

      Yes I'm sure there'll be a few out there, but it's certainly not a common colour combination what with the Atlas grey being an metallic optional extra

    Hood? OhYeah, you guys are not in America................ Great Vid and very well and simply put. Sidebar: is the roof on a house a "hood" as well? We say roof on homes and cars...............Cheers

    Ehhh… use a sewing machine or needle. Do not use staples.
    Do not recommend that method.

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  Před 3 měsíci

      Each to their own but I don’t know how you’re supposed to get a sewing machine inside the hood to sew it. Needle and thread can be used but there are no issues using staples, many many people do it this way
