to be honest this goes beyond corrosion for me and almost looks like spiritual glow.
yeah i agree, usually corrosion goes for a much more richer and saturated colour, the whiter (desaturated) tones here really makes it look eerie/ethereal glow
Awesome series idea! Looking forward to the rest of it
Stunning as Always! I love you guys help people paint their models from an army perspective which makes it super applicable for me.
Absolutely love the effect with oil paint and I think you've just provided me the colours I want to use for my new eldar army
Another outstanding video... I can see quite a few uses here for various models.....and I love those oil paint names... so apt!
Yes, Yes, Yes! Loved this vid and am looking forward to more from the “weathering” series.
Lovely scheme and tutorial. Always a joy. I really like your calm and considered delivery great for imparting knowledge and instruction. I look forward to future updates.
Thanks Adam
Great effect! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks!
This is outstanding. Really well articulated fantastic video. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I appreciate the way you put the video together allowing viewers to easily find different segments etc Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, can't wait to see the rest of this mini-series! Very happy I recently picked up the Abteilung turquoise to try a (admittedly, very much dumbed down) version of this 😅
It’s a great colour
Great video, can't wait to see the next ones
Amazing stuff. Easily among the best-looking miniature verdigris I've ever seen.
Thanks!
Excellent - so well put together
Why haven't I seen this amazing channel before!? Outstanding work. Thanks a ton!
Glad you enjoy it!
CoP is the best channel on YT when it comes to paint techniques. I have literally taught myself over the last year or so with this channel and I’m pretty proud of my progress
Great work as always!
Thank you!
I followed the oil-wash technique on a larger-scale predator bust I've been working on and wow... It's a really striking look in the thumbnail, but in person it's an absolutely gorgeous effect! Super credible and a lot of fun to apply. Thanks for sharing, Henry!
Great to hear!
Such a great effect.
Amazing work! Big fan of the oil wash, it's definitely tipped me over the edge to try them out.
You won’t regret it.
Looking at the first two steps gives me an idea of how I can do my power swords in my army ,possibly even the plasma
I was thinking the same thing too. It’s neat how CoP vids usually inspire other ideas
That's awesome, I dig the technique! You sir just got yourself a subscriber
Welcome!
Amazing. Thank you for this.
No worries!
Great tutorial Henry. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Fantastic video, very well explained 👏
Glad you liked it!
Looks excellent
looks dope!!
this will definitely help make my heroes of might and magic inspired skeleton horde look much better
What a great result!
Thank you!
Excellent tip video, this was extremely helpful
Glad you liked it
Happy to see the oils tip toeing in here
This is great henry, thanks
Thanks!
Have been wanted to try this effect on necrons for ages but couldn't get it the way I wanted with the nihilik oxide effect paint will be giving this a try
Will be using this on the soulblirhgt gravelords army when it gets released
me too!
Looks so damn good!!! So this has gotta be what my skellies get painted as! Very curious to see the end product. I’m already thinking about what else I’d add to the colour scheme 🧐
Me too!
Thank you for the tips. I used this method on my Screaming bell. Only I subbed Sotek for Baharoth blue because I don't have it. Was worried it would be too different but I'm quite pleased with the result.
That verdigris is pretty badass
God damn you guys are just great. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for watching!
Cool!
Well, this is my new colour scheme for skeletons
Me too!
Same thanks and subbed
This is how I'll likely do the roof layer of my Marvel Crises Protocol Sanctum Santorum. Very nice effect.
Very nice ! And easy, or almost 😁!
a couple of goes and you'll nail it
Glad to see you cover the Abteilung paints for this effect; their adjustability means they completely blow Nihilakh Oxide out of the water.
Thanks
and this is awesome :)
didnt even know what verdigris was. now i want some skelly's to paint like this
Thanks Cult of Paint!
Ooh, that would be a great paint scheme for Stormcast Erternals :)
That would look very cool
'Veridian! Blue-green!' Otto, Beetlejuice.
I think of all the artists on the tube of the you. Without a doubt you have the best green and blue scheme tutorials by far.
Turquoise, blue, green, aqua are all colours i adore. The oil paint you used here is just tingly fresh dazzle to my eye balls. Could look at that all day.
Thank you!
“Dehydrated chromic oxide...you forget, I was schooled in chemistry” 😂 solid reference bro

Found my armor plan for the new Squats.
No idea why anyone would down vote any of your videos. Henry, you’re the man!
haha don't worry about them, we don't!
It pleased Nurgle!
Brillant, actually i tested another verdegris product: Dirty Down Verdigris, very good, especially on dark surfaces, also moss and rust effect with with company, you can order directly to DirtyDown or at PK-Pro shop in Germany !
Very interesting video! Thinking of adding this effect to my Death Guard models.
Atleast up to Sotek Green, the things after that is way beyond my painting skills.
And even up to Sotek Green will (probably) be difficult for me.
Questions:
-What is the metallic colour you're using as base? (or equivalent, since I don't have an airbrush)
-Do you think this could work over Death Guard Green as well as the metallic paint?
It’s S75 Victorian brass but jut about every brand will have a good base brass/bronze colour. You’ll be fine, just keep it thin and don’t put too much on your brush. And I’m not sure about over the green, it could end up looking like really heavily oxidised bronze, bit like Statue of Liberty, could look great!
Great video, what colour was the brass base coat prior to starting the verdigris?
I'm so glad I found this and your page! you're so informative and so easy to follow along. Thank you!
Q. Do you recall what gold/bronze you used as the base?
Thanks. Victorian Brass by Scale75
I wanted to make my skeleton horde look like the ones from the black cauldron and this is perfect! I think I'm going to use a bit more green than blue colors, but this technique/methodology is amazing! Thanks so much for the tutorial.
Sounds awesome, tag us in the results we'd love to see an army inspired by this!
Beautifu l work, stunning result. Can I ask what you used for the metal base colour? Thanks
Thankyou! It was S75 Victorian Brass
Stumbled upon your work via Instagram and came here. Wow! To echo many others - awesome video, great descriptions and an incredible final effect! You’ve inspired me to start a skellington army! Which model is this you used please? Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks! It's one of the skelebobs from the Cursed City box. I believe a multipart kit is coming with the new release soon.
@@cultofpaint amazing thank you so much!
Is there anywhere to see the completely painted model? Looks amazing and I would like to see what other colors you went with.
I never fully finished him, although I did use him for the bone and cloth tutorials. I’m planning a soulblight army for second half of this year.
What's the base colour for the bronze? Love this!
victorian brass by S75
Could you show how to do this on a adpatus sorroritas model
👌
This could be good on the copper trim on deathguard stuff
definitely
What would you recommend to varnish the effect? A matt would be correct for the verdigris, but would kill the metallic. Alternatively, satin would be great for the metallic, but not be right for the verdigris.
The sotek green when I tried it looks alot darker than yours in the video?
That second method is PERFECT! Thank you so much mate!
If I wanted to do this, I first needed to build up my bronze colours etc, right?
Fun fact, verdigris as you call it, comes from vert de gris in french which means "green from gray"
Very cool technique, I recently had an oil wash strip paint from a piece of terrain - it was the bottom of a ramp I forgot to varnish, though I use an old bit of cloth to wipe up the excess.
I'm guessing when having the spirit oil wash sit on the bottom of the ramp for a bit + the abbrasion of the cloth you do need a layer of varnish?
It doesn’t matter if you varnish your previous paint job, pressing on to hard with the thinners will take the varnish and paint off
It's the abrasion of you rubbing it that's causing it to come off. Mineral spirits shouldn't react with dry acrylic paint.
@@cultofpaint That makes sense, with the technique I'm using I think the varnish does help though - providing an extra layer to 'take the beating' of the abrasion of the dry cloth in stead of the paint layers. I'll experiment with some less abrasive techniques, though I very much like the effect. :D
@@stephenboulton1114 the varnish does matter though, since it'l get stripped before the paint (unless you rub so hard the entire coat comes off ofcourse)
Can I ask what color you used for the metal? I'd really like to replicate this on my gravelords. It looks.lovely..
S75 Victorian Brass. Nearly all the major paint ranges have a nice brass/bronze paint though.
After doing all the weathering damage, do you use the mixture (Agrax + contrats)?
Nice video!! 🥳🥳
No, just that initial coat. No reason you could reapply if you wanted to darken down some areas further
I have seen some bronze amour of Macedonians. Though all that signs of aging were removed, but color of bronze was way way darker then this one here. This bonnie have a strange look like he spill a paint on himself while painting a fence. ;)
wish i had access to scale75 for that brass, it looks beautiful. any suggestions for a vallejo equivalent?
Vallejo brass is great, and it’s what I’d use instead to be honest. It’s just my order didn’t arrive before I filmed!
@@cultofpaint Perfect! Thanks for the quick reply. The weathering looks great by the way, i may just steal your scheme once i get my hands on these skeletons :) Cant wait for the rest of the series!
Patina is another term for this
what is the bronze/brass spray undercoat?
S75 Victorian Brass
I'm using this method on my 40k knights, but I'm really struggling to find a good bronze color, what did you use to base this skeleton?
Victorian brass by scale 75
Hi Henry. What paint is the bronze base coat. Brilliant video, as always
Thanks Nick, its S75 Victorian Brass
@@cultofpaint amazing. Thank you
Can you please mention the base color that you airbrushed on the figure?
Victorian brass by scale 75
What's the gold you used for the base colour? 😁
I was wondering the same!
Knowing they love Tamiya colors as bases, it mught be X33 bronze, not sure though
victorian brass by S75
I always use Abteilung 502 oil paints for my washes and weathering. Every time I use a GW wash or contrast painting it eats through the paint under it. But I can’t complain I think oils are easier to use. Great job on the weathering effect.
I think for a weathered bronze, the effect should have more green, and less blue. More realistic for bronze imo. But ofc this is a fantasy miniature, who really knows what metals they have in the mortal realms. This looks great though!!
less of the turquoise and more of the copper oxide you'd get that green for sure.
extremly good ! would same rule apply to rust on steel ?
Sure. But I’m gonna look at some other ways of representing rust too.
Anyone know what’s the primer or bass color In the beginning of the video ?
#Scale75 Victorian Brass
Hallo
Need help...
I try to paint my Minis like this Video...
But which base colour are used...
Cooper ? But which colour?
Victorian Brass by scale75
What bronze did you use Vallejo?
S75 Victorian Brass, but the vallejo have some fantastic ones
Is there a way to achieve that first layer without using the contrast paint?
yeah just use a dark turquoise paint, won't be as nice to use, but it's doable.
The video is really great.. But I doubt the second color you used is Sotek Green...would not It be Temple Guard Blue??
100% sotek
@@cultofpaint then you have a very bright lighting!
Well, if you are into Etymology you'll be thrilled to know, that Sansodor comes from "sans odor", as in "without smell". Probably a good hint at how it's pronounced too :)
I never caught which colour you used for the base coat. Was it Retributor armour?
S75 Victorian Brass
@@cultofpaint thanks!
The 10 people who disliked this video are just angry that the secret recipe is out in the public
Undead are one of the faster armies to speed paint, so getting one finished shouldn't be too hard.
What is the base color? I have several golds, bronze and coppers and I’ll be damned if I’m not seeing what color this base is
s75 victorian brass
@@cultofpainthello my friend…. I’m finally starting on these, thanks for the tutorial. Just thought I’d come back, I finally ordered the Scale75 metallics (so nice)… I think the base coat was actually necro gold. I tried the Victorian brass and realized it was off, so I tried the necro and it looks spot on. Looking forward to finishing these! 😀 thanks again
I wish there was a Half-Life wargame, because this over gunmetal would be perfect for Combine structures.
ok the same method :)
amazing that you're using models from a very limited release which everybody who couldn't get are crying about just to "try new paint schemes" for what's likely to be a very easy to get general release! anyway, thanks, it looks very nice, just noticing how someone's "trash" is somebody else's "treasure" I guess
Why didn’t you use GW nihilakh oxide technical paint?
Vert de gris, et non verdigris ;) as green of grey, vert dans des teintes de gris
Mais le nom anglais est bien verdigris.
