My uncle used to work in Qatar like 9-10 years ago or so. They'd literally hold payments for months on end. They'd even hold the worker's passport on arrival so they couldn't even return home if and when they wanted. My uncle once couldn't return for like a year straight because of that.
They'd provide a tiny room with no AC and 6-7 workers would be in this one room. The photos my uncle would show me were horrible.
They would do nothing to protect these workers from the unbearable heat. He'd tell me that workers would just pass out so frequently because of the heat and they'd do nothing about it. They wouldn't even provide them with a drinking water supply in the worksite. WATER IN QATAR'S HEAT. Work all day in the scorching heat with horrible working conditions, can't return home, can't receive the money owed to them, can't even sleep at night in peace. As a trinidadian i can confidently speak for us all when i say that nobody is surprised that jack warner just accepted the bribe straight up 💀💀
more than "bribe", it's lobbying
a widespread practice in many european GOVERNMENTS, and in the US house of chambers too
He not only accepted the bribe but he negotiated a higher price. They were going to pay him $450k and he said that's not enough, I need more so they paid him more.
The reason they (heads of football associations) said they wanted this money was to make football better in their region (build more football infrastructure, make already existing football structure better, etc); which sadly didn't happen either. If I remember correctly, the Trinidad football team players didn't get paid for playing in the world cup either because Jack Warner (head of Trinidad football) said they had no money or something.
@@muazqamar i vaguely remember all this. Tbh our politics are confusing af and im not into sports either so im not educated on the topic. But im not surprised he haggled his way into more money and didn't even pay the team. All i know is that everyone has clowned on this man for being corrupt for years and some people say he ruined football for us. But there are always people who think "he did what he had to" because of the political divide.
@@ria_x_rose Yeah that's not surprising. And no one can blame you or normal citizens because everyone is distracted by life struggles so people can't protest or force people like him out of these powerful positions.
Although in the beginning of his career, he worked hard and brought Trinidad in the world sports spotlight, secured a powerful position for himself, he wasn't an honest man and like anyone from a struggling country, wanted to make as much money as possible so he and his future generations would be financially secure. But that doesn't justify his actions. Specially, being unfair and dishonest to your own people, even worse, your own sports team that you are heading.
I'm happy that he's not working anymore and the people and government of Trinidad realized how bad he was. I truly hope to see your country's team in the next world cup
