There was so much action, world building jammed into this movie and it started with one word "Oh."
"It was at that moment Vigo knew... his son fucked up."
@@windwalker5765 Big time!
Under-rated comment!
@@user-zg4gn3ot9fDamn😂 I would’ve fly myself to the moon - 🐕 coin 😂
@@user-zg4gn3ot9fYUP!!
i like that even the villain is giving the narrative about the protagonist. usually they did it the other way around, this makes John Wick even more of a badass
that's is because john was the worst villain of them all, a retired villain that chose to retire and was forced back.
@@lucasleocadio9249 if the devil chooses to retire you fuckin let him 🤣
It's the "horrifying hero" trope. The trope isn't used often because it's difficult to write a protagonist hero as a force that the villains are afraid of without dehumanizing the hero and turning the audience against that hero. In John Wick's case, the writers used a very VERY effective narrative trope at the very beginning of the movie called "pet the dog". The horrifying hero is cemented as a likeable character for the audience because he took care of an innocent and defenseless thing. In John Wick's case, a literal dog.
@@onemuststand7353, Like The Punisher and Doomslayer.
@@lucasleocadio9249 agreed john wasn't really a hero just a guy trying to change😂
the symbolism of John tearing up the foundation of his house to dig up his guns and gold while Viggo tells his son about the bodies buried to lay the foundation of their organization seems lost on them.
Damn that's a good catch 👌🏼
Nobody is gonna catch on to that on a first watch
Well it's not gold it's bit coin
I never caught that, that's really cool!
@@eezz_ace2283 yeah watched this a lot of times and just noticed any symbolism. Or at least, I didn't think of thinking of one since it is pretty literally that John is going back to how he was before.
I just love everyone's reaction when the father said "Oh" the simple reaction showing just how screwed they were
New memes for fucked up moment
"oh"😂
He said a million things with one word.
Kudos to Michael Nyqvist may he rest in peace. Those lines he delivered will live in us .
And just like that, Aurelio is completely off the hook. Viggo's response almost implied an apology: "Totally justified, Aurelio. I'd do the same myself. Forget it, sorry to bother you."
this particular intro to John Wick is rated as one of the best ever. Prior to this, the world is just half guessing who Wick is and how the heat will generate throughout the movie. the script writers here deserved an oscar on how they build the John Wick image and eventually the whole franchise!
I would agree, this scene started the whole thing, I still go back to it sometimes.
That Vigo scene is really good selling how good and terrifying john is.
This is perhaps the best intro to a character we don't really know anything about next to The Third Man.
@@onyxblack1167 The Oh" before this scene was shorthand for "Oh sh*t."
I love that Viggo gave Iosef some hard alcohol first, so when he throws up it'll hurt more.
Good catch. Not a lot of people point that out.
thank you for this comment that now i know what it means, after i rewatch this movie like 5 times
You should look closer he gave him cheaper booze than what he pours one for himself. Secondly when he toasts to him but doesn’t drink. That in Russian culture it means he doesn’t approve of what he did.
@@2410jrod damn, the details. Thanks buddy
@@2410jrod think that's just toasting culture in general
More common in Russia to be sure but it is seen as rude or offensive to be a part of a toast but not drink
This introduction it’s what makes this character so legendary, and we are waiting for chapter 4 next year, can’t wait!
It's coming out this year actually, March 23.
Yes. This scene set the foundation for John Wick’s legacy
It's heree baeebeeee
Ive already watch chapter4
he died
RIP Michael Nyqvist you were a damn good Swedish Actor. Excellent Mob Boss. Love his work in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the others.
I didn't know, now I'm going to have to see more of his work
I didnt even know he passed...
No offense to Daniel Craig, but when I hear Viggo's monologue, I wish Michael Nyqvist had reprised his role in David Fincher's English version.
Pete Stormare is another Swede that NAILS Russian roles....plus he was GREAT as Lucifer in Constantine.
@@ryandonovan5895 Pete Stormare was in John Wick 2. Playing as Viggo Tarasov brother, Abram Tarasov.
He is the boogeyman of all boogeymans. The nightmare of nightmares. This is one if not the best of the best introduction of a protagonist in a movie. Well written with a great acting and directing. You can feel the atmosphere too.
John Wick is the monster the other monsters fear.
Before the boogeyman goes to sleep, he checks his closet first for Chuck Norris, then he checks under his bed for John Wick.
but it's wrong. baba yaga is a witch that lives in the woods.
"He Wasn't The Boogeyman, He Was Who You Sent To Kill The F×cking Boogeyman". Russian Mafioso - 2014.
In Slavic mythology there is no boogeyman, they call him baba yaga which is forest cannibal witch.
Closest thing to boogeyman is barabashka which is evil housespirit.
I read that Keanu came up with the "killing" John's puppy to make it more personal besides his car being stolen by Iosef and his friends. Speaking of that puppy, Beagle's name is Andy plays "Daisy" was adopted by one of the actors who portrays Iosef's thug friends because he cried after killing scene. When filming completed, Andy is adopted by the actor. I also read that Andy now older still living 10 years later,
That's sweet
its better than that. they had to re-do the "take" multiple times and each time the actor felt so devastated he would play with Andy the moment "cut" was said. the best part was the actor took Andy to the premier!!!
That makes me disappointed in Keanu tbh if it's true. I've always been disappointed that the writers felt his wife dying wouldn't be enough to make people care so they needed a dog to die. Or it was easier to include the dog than write a decent female character
@@geneticjen9312 Daisy wasn't killed. Andy's trainers trained him to play dead. Daisy killed put more revenge for John Wick
@@geneticjen9312 Tell me you never watched the movie without telling me you never watched the movie. The puppy's death is the entire catalyst for John Wick's violence because she was the gift from his already departed wife. Had nothing to do with writing a decent female character, she was already dead due to illness. Pro-tip, know wtf you're talking about before chiming in before you embarrass yourself again.
Still one if not thee best introduction to a character ever!
Chills. 🥶
Absolutely!
Agreed
"OH"
"Oh". The best 1 word spoken in film.
subtle 👍🏼
Yeah.
- John Wick
You've obviously never seen a lot of films.
"He was the one you sent to _kill_ the fuckin' Boogeyman."
One of the coldest lines ever written/delivered in anything. Just that one line lets you know John is *_NOT_* a man to be trifled with lol.
That "... Oh." hooked me into the movie when I first saw it. That's when I knew that this is a different movie where the Bad Guys are the ones who are trying to survive from the main protagonist. lol
"oh...."
perfectly delivered.
"John isn't exactly the Boogeyman. He's the one you sent to kill the f*cking Boogeyman." That line right there tells you that John is on another level... and that Vigo is trying to keep his cool but inside is screaming.
"He's not the boogeyman he's the guy you send to kill the f$%king boogeyman"
John Wick is the literal physical embodiment of the phrase "F*ck around and find out..."
One of the greatest character introductions! That guy perfectly hyped up John Wick as fearsome assassin that absolutely no one wanted to fxxk with at all. RIP Michael Nyqvist
the way vigo introduces john and gave his son a little sneak peak of what he can do still gives me chills til now.
Chills and goosebumps every time I watch this scene.
Usually introductions like this, meant to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies, are reserved for the villain. What an awesome way to introduce the protagonist!
thats how you set up a character
I dont think there ever has been, or ever will be again, a scene that conveys just how much of a "YOU FUCKED UP!" moment as Viggos simple ".......oh......"
you know that John Wicks dangerous when the mafia boss immediately gets worried lmao
the strongest introduction of a character... chills..
Probably the best scene in the movie
agreed shame it was ruined by woman yapping all the way through it
@@leon51203 LOL
And even if you argued that it is NOT, which you could even though I think it is, it is DEFINITELY the best Protagonist setup / exposition scene ever in cinema!
@@sharkdentures3247 that's a big call.
@@Tehui1974 Yeah. But am I wrong?
Reactions to this scene never gets old.
Yo Lebowski, I may be drunk and stoned at the moment, but this is one of the best reaction mashup's I have ever seen. Well done!!!!
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. 😎👍🏼
The way he says Oh is perfect in that it conveys fear and resignation at the same time.
The scene that really sets this off was the deleted scene of John reading the letter his wife sent with the dog. She knew she was dying and sent arranged for him to receive the puppy so he wouldn't be alone after she passed and then Viggo's son killed it. Making John's actions after not only right, but justified.
That scene wasn't deleted...it was in the theatrical cut.
What always got me with this whole scene was John was destroying his home, to unbury his past. Also notice how deep that hole was. This wasn't just a late addition. They buried that in the basement when they POURED that concrete floor. Meaning the people who made that house buried it deep.
You skipped the most badass part! Boss calls John to apologize on behalf of his son, John hangs up. Assistance then asks, "what did he say?" The boss replies, "enough." #BAAADDDDAAAASSSSSSS
I love the little sigh Viggo does when walking down the stairs as he's coming to terms with the unholy shitstorm his son has unleashed upon him
Such a great char introduction
Ps This is a really nice way of putting together a bunch of reaction. Packed, concise, not overwhelming but still gives the everyone spotlight during the punchline/best moments
This is one of the best edits that has multiple reactions going at once. The timing, the reactors used, the positioning, and even crediting them in the video itself. Instead of just layer over a bunch of reactors with the video in the middle of the screen. Truly a masterclass
I’m like “Yeah, You Fucked with the Wrong Guy”
When the Mayhem guy from State Farm is nervous about you, you are at a whole higher level of badassery.
Fun fact before he was a legendary Hitman, He was a Former US Marine Corp ( 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines Fortes Fortuna Juvat Fortune Bavors the Brave) why because you can tall of the tattoo and it mean an motto of military service what he serves in.
This is precisely why I could never be a CZcams reactor. So much pointless conversation over important dialogue in the film.
Several people recognized “mayhem “ in this scene, but nobody recognized “Viggo” as the star of the original “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in the Daniel Craig role.
Its not just a dog.. It is stability, mental stability that he had in order to romain focused, the death of his wife threw him off a lot, and the dog was fom her, a gift for him to be be alive. When the punk killed the dogged, hos lifeline.. Snapped!
Vikko set the tone for the John Wick franchise. Without him, we wouldn't know the hype
When you hear Vigo say " a few days after his wife dies and steal his car and kill his f****** dog" you can really feel the gravity of the situation his son has put himself in.
Even mayhem fears John Wick
This scene is the ultimate "Fuck around and find out" scene.
I love how you do these! The reactions over layered over each other is fantastic!
Thank you, i appreciate it.
@@YoureMrLebowski I'm definitely hooked and checking out your videos. It's a great style plus it introduces me to these other channels
Should do the "I will find you" speech from Taken.
A quote from Doctor Who perfectly sums up John Wick in this movie, and it goes: " You gave me hope, and then you took it away. That's enough to make anyone dangerous. God knows what it will do to me."
“John will come for you” has such good delivery and builds an overwhelming sense of dread so well.
Poor Dean Winters. His career distilled down to "hey, isn't that the guy from the insurance commercials?" That's Ryan O'Reily for pete's sake!
Dean Winters - "Mayhem" Allstate Insurance commercials. He's a funny guy but too bad he was struck by "Mayhem" in this movie. This was off course years before the Insurance commercials.
He started doing the Allstate adds back in 2010 but John Wick came out in 2014.
@@plainOldFool Fare enough but I didn't specify which insurance commercials so the previous statement is also correct.
Did anyone else notice he didn’t drink the glass he toasted with his son. Personally, that would be the first red flag if I was his son. When he complimented the jacket you could just tell he wasn’t looking at his jacket but where he was going to strike. It also shows just how little experience his son had. Perfect.
if you look, the vodka he pours for his son is a cheap vodka, the one he pours later for himself is a top shelf quality one.
One of the best character introduction in movies. Period.
No, he's not like the boogeyman... he's the guy you send to kill the fuckin' boogeyman
John wick is not treated as a deadly assassin, but as a force of nature. Completely unrelenting and unstoppable once he’s on a path they know there is nothing they can do but pray
I love how when he says "John will come for you" its not a question or vauge threat its a sheer statement of fact
When that sledgehammer first touched the concrete, shit got real. 😭
One of the greatest scenes in movie history.
John Wick is the perfect example of the man who wants to be left alone. Look it up.
I love how that ".... With a pencil !" line got delivered.
It's basically said that, yes it's sounds ridiculous but this was a real thing that I saw with my own eyes..
i wonder if it was a regular or the fat pencil? it was probably a large stuffed one he won at a carnival.
I love how the following scene after this is Vego trying to talk things over with John only to get dead silence proof of John's focus.
Its so cool how u made a montage of all reactions together. Nice mashup.
When the protagonist is the bad guy to the villians.
The protagonist is pretty much always the bad guy to the villains. What's unique is the villains being genuinely terrified of the protagonist
I love the fact Vigo gives his son a shot of cheap vodka (knowing he's going to spit it up), then when he's done beating on him he grabs a fancy bottle for himself
If you guys also notice, he pours both of them a drink but Viggo never drinks his one. He let's his son drink his and then punches him in the stomach. It's disrespectful to cheers a person and not drink it. I'm guessing he did it because he knew his son was a dead man. And pours himself a new cup.
"He is not the boggieman, he is the you send to kill the boggieman"
Love what you’re doing. This the first vid of yours I have watched. Phenomenal job. You just earned another sub 👍👍
I Never tire of this scene. It is just sooooo damn good!
This was one of the best smash ups. Great scene.
Best scene in the franchise ever!! Gives me chills every single time!
all I can say is you'd think that he would've WARNED his son not to mess with John
Summary John was hired to kill the powerful boss.
May Michael Nyqvist rest in peace 🇸🇪 (viggo) best acting in this scene ,so legendary
They say the most dangerous assassin, the one you cannot defeat, is the one willing to exchange his life for the target. They are wrong.
There is the Other. The One Who Nightmares Fear. The Hassassin.
It's amazing how much power one simple word can have.
Ngl, I thought that said "Baby Yoda" on the thumbnail
dude, i thought the same thing and i'm the one that made it!! 😆
The impossible task that John pulled off was, Viggo told john if he wanted out, he must kill off all of the gangs that are in competition of Viggo's gang. The body count was freaking HUGE if you can imagine all other gangs being eliminated by John to make Viggo the new Kingpin of the city. John was legendary already, but doing that impossible task turned him into a fucking Myth!! Its why they speak hush hush about him and the newer generation doesn't know about him.
These lines are One of the Greatest Lines in the History of Movie Industry showin How Deepest & Darkest Brutal a Man can be...
Worried Gangster Father - " They Call Him Baba Yaga "...
BRAINLESS IGNORANT Son - " The Boogeyman ? "...
Worried Gangster Father - " Well , John wasn't Exactly the Boogeyman... He Was The One You Send To Kill The Fackin Boogeyman "...
The line: "Sent to kill the boogeyman" doesn't get the full realization it deserves. John didn't go after things that would scare the average person. He went after people Russian gangsters thought were scary.
John's intro scene is such badass. As he's tearing up his house just to kill the guy, the bad guy is giving who John really is. 🔥🔥
This should be called “Why you don’t watch a movie you love with more than one woman.”😂.
I heard literally 3 words from the movie.
I've waited SO LONG for a video like this . Please do more , like him chopping off his , you know what and where and when ( i didn't want to give out spoilers)
This movie made a great job building the protagonist reputation, he is so badass that even the bad guys don't wanna mess whit him, giving the character the dark and dangerous atmosphere, a truly babba yaga.
That one look in Vigo's eyes at 1:19, that right there is the expression of absolute horror made manifest, saying aloud, "we are all galaxies beyond fucked".
Single greatest intro of a character in any movie ever , what an introduction.
Undoubtedly the best intro of a character ever
This is how you do exposition. Essentially all they are doing is what is done before a Boxing or MMA match where the announcer reads off a fighters history. They did exposition and still had a ton of subtext mixed with symbolism of John tearing up the foundation of his home as Mob Dad talks about how he built the foundation of his families organization. Masterpiece.
bab yaga is actually a witch that lives in the woods.
Best action movie series of all time....Period. The world building, acting, writing, directing, cinematography....just everything is perfect.
*Viggo introduced John wick*
Me:"You had my curiosity but now you have my attention"
...and you will do nothing, for there is nothing that you can do..." damn. That shit is cold.
Just a tip for the next videos, keep the reactions audio at a lower volume and raise the audio of the movie it self.
tbh, that villain monologue is carrying half of the movie and John Wick franchise.
One of the greatest scenes of all time seriously it really is its perfection RIP to the legend
Keanu nailed it! the most top-class character in action
Scariest 5 words ever "John will come for you"
That scene is so intense with acting and music and this reaction shows how awesome film was made
I forgot how much Natalie Gold yapps through everything she watches.
Dean Winters was also O'Reilly on Oz.
