Welcome back SN Community! Happy Holidays everyone! Santa brought us a new Dark Angels army, so we thought we’d test it out agains the Grinch of Warhammer - Erebus, and the Word Bearers! It’s an Xmas themed special (we wear hats) enjoy building your new models!

1. Charing units move directly toward the closest to closest using the shortest distance. Pardo's Levi did a 40k move around the back of the Contemptor when it charged.
2. When the Sicaran popped it was strength 8 and the front armor of the predator is 13, the die roll was a 5. So the it would have been just a glance.
And as always, DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!

What a great surprise for Christmas! Excellent battle as usual chaps! I'm so tempted by dark angels and the knights... Must resist and finish my fists 🤪
Just a few points around combat and charges I picked up. More of "tightening up your play rather than getting it wrong " 😁 When WB dread charged the plasma dudes (forget their names sorry! 😅)
You must charge the first (or in this case only ) model into base contact , via the shortest route possible that doesn't take it into impassable terrain , so usually a straight line , even of it would take you through difficult terrain and slow you. And even if you have the movement to avoid the terrain you still take the hit and go through it (not relevant here but thought it was worth mentioning jist in case it comes up in future 😉) the main point is that , unlike 40k 1" isn't "engagement range " it's base contact or you fail the charge and only surge.and if after end of combat pilie ins , you are no longer in base contact then you are no longer in combat . The morale test for losing combat occurs BEFORE. End of combat pile ins so he should have given chase and used sweeping advance to run down the survivor , even though they weren't in combat after attacks .. pages 1188-189 clearly break down the order you resolve 'end of combat stuff' morale(including any sweeping advances ), then end of combat pile in (if the DA hadn't failed his morale and ran away, both units MUST move their full Initiative, by the shortest distance to maintain combat, if after this, no one is in base to base combat , at this point, they are allowed to consolidate however they wish . This is important, because you can't do swanky fudged things with your pile in moves to deliberately take you out of combat,move to better positions and such, again like ive seen in 40k. I short these rules are far tighter in their way the stages work. The other thing is with multiple charges like the gal vorbak and Erebus' squad charging the companions., you need to fully resolve each charge move before moving on. This is only important because you must move every model into base contact where possible when you charge , so it could reduce the number of models you can get into combat from the other squad, or even block them entirely, also remember that you need to move the model closest to the unit you charge first, so can't charge a character further back in the squad to get him in etc... Charging rules are page 182.. and the melta being out of range to those predators . The rule is In the rules for shooting squadrons on page 211. You can only allocate to a model within range and line of sight

Didnt watch til the end, but while i remember, the cebonites are all characters, you can divide each wound between every models, and not kill them one after the other and keep the rest with full life. Also, they cannot run, they are heavy

@@SNBattleReports All the Cenobium are Characters. The Companions are just Chosen Warriors, but you still always get to allocate wounds where ever you want with them.

@@SNBattleReports Deathsworn Companions, the rules that allows them to ignore Sniper and Precision Shots and Precision Strikes also allows the controlling player to always allocate casualties to the model of his choice.
Great Batrep, and love seeing the Dark Angels in action. Interemptor, Companions and inner circle knights are my favourite units although I've only 5 knights and 5 Companions so far. You should give ALL of the Companions Terranic greatswords! ⚔

@@DaddyWarCrimes78 The shields don't replace melee weapons, they replace bolters. They can take both shield AND terranic great sword.
@@GarethMurphy40k I know this is an old thread but giving the big swords to your shield guys is a waste of points, since they can't attack while they have the shields deployed, and you want them deployed all the time.
@@theemperor8452 I'd strongly disagree. Companions are best used offensively. The majority of the time they are mobile and attacking and on the charge you want to make the mose of your attacks. I use Companions in every game, either on foot in land raiders or with jump packs and I rarely deploy the shields. In fact the shields are really only a redundancy for when you've no good options to charge, if you're transport is destroyed or if you know they're definitely getting charged the next turn by an elite CC unit or death star.

Great game! For removing moddles and getting out of combat at the end of their fight there is a LD test done and if it's failed they run as normal and can be swept but if it's passed both units pile in 3" towards eachother and if they make it in base they keep fighting but if not only then are you free. Just so you know, it didn't make a difference but to make it easy on you going forward. And murderers strike wounds must be saved and taken first you can't chose to roll saves for them second. Small thing but it makes a difference

Love some Angels of Death content. Quick reminder, Interemptors have rad grenades. So when the Mara Gal charged would be at T6 so the flamers would wound and breach on a 4+.
The Mhara Gal has the shroud of dark fire, which reduces the strength of plasma weapons that shoot it by 1, counteracting the rad grenades

@@joshuamiller1653 the gal vorbak don't have it, just the dreadnought. Gal vorbak on my experience playing against them are monstrously effective, one of the strongest melee units in the game. I've seen 5 of them with a praetor attached devour half an army by themselves

FYI, as long as you've got 2 shields and they don't attack, the shields impose a -1 Initiative penalty on everyone in combat with the unit, so your praetor would swing first, then the Gal and the other Companions with greatswords swing at I4, then the regular Tacticals swing at I3, then Erebus and the powerfist Companion swing at I1.

@@SNBattleReports It's part of the rules for the Cytheron Pattern Aegis. At the end of your movement phase, if you've got at least two shields in the unit, you can deploy them, which extends the invulnerable from the shields to the entire unit and imposes a -1 Initiative to anyone engaged with the unit. You have to activate all the shields in the unit to do it, and the guys with the shields can't attack, but it frees up your praetor and the other guys in the squad with greatswords to go to town.

@@SNBattleReports I'm not the guy you're replying to, but it's the third line of the rules paragraph for the cytheron shields, on page 165.
"While deployed, the entire unit gains a 4+ Invulnerable Save against Shooting Attacks and a 5+ Invulnerable Save against Melee Attacks, and any enemy models Engaged with a model from the Deathwing Companion’s Detachment in an assault have their Initiative reduced by -1."

That was a lot of fun, crazy that it turned out 11 - 1. I sympathize with DC I'm waiting to redo my Word Bearers (they were my first army and you can tell I was new with an airbrush) and I want to see what DotR look like first. I've also got 4500 points (based on 1.0) of DotR that I'm dying to get on the table.

Your Inner Circle neglected to attempt to evade the onslaught of shots on them for multiple turns. Don’t forget your reactions; it could have made a huge difference!

I don't understand the logic at play at around 1:14:00 mins. The Word Bearers dreadnought explodes and hits everything around it. You only roll the 1 dice for the caliban? Terminator squad (sorry don't know what they're called) despite two models from the unit are clearly within range, but you roll for 3 marines that are within range for the tactical squad or something that is also in range? Is this some sort of special rule for the Terminator squad? Am I misunderstanding the rules of the game in general (which is more than possible, I've only just started Word Bearers myself, go Lorgar!)? Ya'll are entertaining to watch, but ya'll missed a lot. I hope this helps (sorry, i'm less familiar with how to build DA):
General Rules
- Both of you need to use fury of the legion. So many miss opportunities. Instead of running forward, use fury. You can use it on return fire, also, and that never happened. Fury is the reason you take tacs instead of anything else.
- You cannot pass off wounds from the same wound pool (i.e. same weapon)
Specific for DA
- Power fists do not get deathwatch +1 to hit. It's only with swords.
- You never deployed the shields for the unit. That potentially could have saved you a lot of mans.
- Fury. Of. The. Legion. So many missed opportunities for it. I know I said this already, but you have WAY more opportunities to use it where you didn't.
Specific for WB
- Waste of 10 points on the Diabolist. He should have a force maul, not a tainted maul.
- Diabolist rolls his psychic power when you declare a charge. Even if you fail the charge, you must still cast the power. So while it probably wouldn't have mattered, there was a potentially to perils
- GV are bad into elite units. Don't do that. Run them into the tacs, and let the 2x 20 man WB tacs fury of the legion over and over again into the two elite units. NEVER send them into Sv 2+. You will lose that every single time. A unit of 5 GV should beat almost every power armor unit you charge. They're insanely good. You're just using them wrong, and I hope this helps you in the future.
- If you take no gun upgrades on the GV, take an extra claw for free. It's +1 attack and you lose a bolter (oh no...)
- Try a fist on the GV. It's very good, and can help against beefier units.
- You didn't have enough elite choices used to justify Last of the Serrated Suns (ok you kiiiiiinda did) but making one unit of 10 GV and one of 5, then using Dark Brethren would have been far more beneficial. LotSS is nice and all, but it's really not good compared to the beast mode that is Dark Brethren.
- You're right, don't do tank squads. Especially don't do them with WB.
- Take heavy support squads instead of tanks, and then you can use them to obliterate your sacrifice target. While not required, a 10 man unit of lascannons is pretty standard for WB. Mark a rhino as your sacrifice target then disappear it with the lascannons. In this game, one of the many many other tanks would have worked, too.
- Try to slot in some warpfire. You're missing out on a lot of chances for pinning. It's insanely good, especially when you consider the fear aura. You especially want to pin the unit your GV charge because the brace action neuters them real bad.
- I get that Erebus is kinda neat, but he's SOOOOOOOOO bad. Don't use him. Ever. At all. Not once. Once daemons are out, then maybe, but still probably not. Praetor is a better choice 100% of the time over Erebus. Once daemons are out, then it could be fun because his daemons stack with both Lorgar's units and the esoterist's units. You can have many daemons (eventually). I would ONLY take him if I was also taking an esoterist, and then again only if i wanted more than 3 daemon units (which i'll 100% do at some point)
- Doesn't super matter, but Erebus should have hit the Praetor on 5s, not 4s at the end.
- Erebus is Fearless, you should never have lost tacs from corrupted.
- Erebus has Hatred, and while you didn't show it, it did seem like you forgot it.
- If you wanna use GV in a big unit, try a unit of 10, Argel Tal, and a warmonger. Deep strike them into the middle of everything, and they just ruin lives.
End of game
- "Erebus has never won a game." Yeah, he's flaming hot garbage. Potentially the worst main book named character right now. Such a massive waste of points until daemons come out.
- "When did it turn" It turned the second the GV charged the wrong unit, and then when they charged the wrong unit again. It was ALWAYS going to end this way. WB didn't have enough firepower to take down 3 dreads, and the GV didn't go into the correct units.
So 95% of all this is decisions you would take not mistakes? Lol Hope you enjoyed the game buddy.

Nice "fan interaction." Just trying to help in areas you clearly had questions on. I'll avoid that in the future since it seems like you don't want it.

Just don't get it from the comment it really looked like it was mistakes when you said missed a lot so found it very hard to understand when reading and it was mostly choices you would have made that is all.

The Dark Angels in Horus heresy were black. They then spilt into greenwing, Deathwing and ravenwing later on in seperated colours
From what I have read of hh, dark angels are arguably the best legion. ( hope the rainbow dice have been left behind)
I play Imperial Fists as well and think they are better
@@SNBattleReports I too am an Imperial Fists player, and I find them to be a strong candidate for 'Best Loyalist Legion' rules-wise. Sigismund is an absolute 'Beat-Stick' and Alexis Pollux is also pretty good.
Given that the Serrated Suns RoW only makes the Gal Vorbak Troops but not giving them Line. Why not take the Dark Brethren RoW, given that you aren't actually benefitting from Serrated Suns? Also as an Argel Tal fan, obligatory F**k Erebus!

@@SNBattleReports But there's no alteration to the number of slots of unit types for either RoW. Maybe it was because the Dark Angel's didn't have a RoW to make it a fair playing field? That's all I can think of

I benefitted from Serrated because the list is illegal (too many Elite slots) without it 👍 I think I mentioned it on the intro?
@@sn_dc Ah, yeah you did mention about not being able to take them otherwise. Loved the army non the less, just thought it was odd not to build around the Dark Brethren RoW.
One alternate option using the models available could be taking a Mortificator (the consul that takes a contemptor) but reducing a tac squad to 10? It moves the contemptor from Elites to HQ and throws in melee haywire, It Will not Die 5+ and Battlesmith 6+.
Love seeing your Word Bearers play, as someone who started a small word Bearers force for HH2.0, turned Castellan Crowe into a praetor for my force.

@@lupuskonig9 against most typical HH LISTS it would be hawt garbage… DC knew he was up against an infantry heavy list and just went with as many shots possible. He’s such a douche canoe.

😂😂 I am a nightmare, and do love to play the villain most of the time. BUT! Just to deal in realities here, a few points if I may:
1. My list was built *before* the Dark Angels list, Pardo was at the studio before me (I finish work later than him) and got them out the cabinets ready, because he’s a gent. So I ask, how can you tailor a to a list you haven’t seen yet?
2. Even before any list building, this is the *only way I can field a 3,000pts WB HH list, and that was even with me painting the bases on the Gal Vorbak last minute as Pardo read over his DA rules ready for recording. Because I wanted to showcase WB at 3,000pts. I only have either some rapier batteries and a Leviathan left to use in my arsenal. I personally think Levi’s very good at killing elite infantry heavy lists - but I didn’t take it…
3. Then there is the logic of why would I tailor against my best mate, who I play weekly, in a casual game, on camera! 😂 I’m not even at the stage of my Horus Heresy development (in terms of playing) were I’m super confident on all my rules without checking between takes or the more intricate interactions in this game system, let alone tailor to an army I’ve never faced before? Doesn’t make sense but I do appreciate the vote of confidence 😅
4. *SPOILERS* Of the two lists, I would argue the Dark Angels had some pretty tough units. 3 Dreds and two really tough squads in the terminators and those Companion knight guys. It took ALL my tanks firing consistently at the terminators to drop some of them, then a dred that I got lucky with in combat - that’s like 1/3 of my army attacking one unit. The rest of my army struggled to dent the DA which resulted in Pardo getting the upper hand later on in the game as I rapidly lost my tanks and my Gal Vorbak underperformed!
So, you stand corrected sir. The real reason is you’re a loyalist Steve and and cannot see the glory of Chaos, so accuse me of tailoring! 😂
