I've worked as a storyboard artist on My Little Pony: A New Generation.
At the early stage of the production, I've helped set up the comedic tone of the movie working on the song clip "Fit Right In"
I'm sharing with you the storyboard animatic song. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I had fun doing it!
The use of the word "Homicidal" in MLP is so weird to hear lol
Imagine having to pause the movie to explain to your 6-year-old what that means.
"I bet you eat your young!"
"They take your hooves and then they grind them into midnight snacks"
Two references to cannibalism, yet the word "homicidal" is a problem.
@@82dorrin You wouldn't need to explain those to your kid though, a lot of traditional stories for children involve someone eating or trying to eat someone else.

Cut to "super scary" in the final product, which works just fine.
Kept "they'll grind your hooves into midnight snacks!" though!
I’m still bitter that the full album version wasn’t used in the movie. This was the best song.

1:03 While this was cut, it did make it back in Pipp's song, and we still get that same impression in the final product of this being the scene of him gradually turning to their side. "This is never gonna work!" to "If you say so!" and from faces that say "what is going on?!" to dancing with the others as he's rapidly pulled from scene to scene of the song.
This song definitely went through a lot more changes than Mob, major props to the people that came up with all the extra visuals and transitions that just make it so addictively rewatchable.
Kimiko Glenn is singing here? it's beautiful. the rap scene is so much fun, I wish they did the "various horns" bit in the real movie

This isn't Kimiko Glenn, or any of the actresses/actors that were in the final film. This was probably just a bunch of interns they grabbed from around the studio, who could sing the song "well enough" to function as a decent demo for the song, so they could tweak any bits that really didn't work before they got the A-list actors in to sing.

Of course the storyboard version has Zipp singing, even if in background. Something she was robbed of in the actual movie

I’m glad it didn’t stay honestly. Would’ve been way too silly and unnecessary, just a joke on how a male character wearing female clothes is funny somehow.

Cool early version for the animatic concept of this song, with a comedic tone that is well suited before Kimiko Glenn did her part, along with James Marsden and Vanessa Hudgens! It may sound like Ashleigh Ball in Applejack's voice singing in this early version, judging my view with a familiar character voice.

One contrast I notice is shifts from the whole gang getting in on the arts and crafts and making some proper disasterpieces at first like 1:58 to it being Izzy's time to shine with something she's really good at so the "first drafts" are more "style over practicality" ridiculous like Sunny's adorable pinwheel horn. (1:48 official music video comparison)
Does anyone know who voiced Izzy in this demo? For some reason I actually like this version of the song more than the final version and I think it mostly because of izzy’s voice,
In my opinion i think that the backing beats at 1:26 are better than the ones used in the final
1:08 i do wonder why the others didnt ever chime in during this part of the movie. pipp sang one song before this one and zipp never sang. maybe it cost too much or sessions were too much time?

I would've loved to hear "Homicidal maniacs" in an MLP movie. The change to "Super scary maniacs" is fine and not too lame, but I did always think that "Just because we're undercover doesn’t mean we're crooks" sounded a little out of nowhere. Makes sense now.

By this point in the final cut, he'd accepted that Unicorns and Pegasi weren't enemies, but he doubted others would agree.
"They taught us Unicorns were super scary maniacs."
Translation: I don't believe that anymore, but everyone else still does.
i do like how they did the "lately all equestria...." part in this, instead of like a 3 part harmony it's more of a solo voice with touches here and there of harmony, somehow more satisfying
Changed up the singing voice in the final cut? It's quite a bit more different than the Mob Song for that reason, even with the lyrics similar.
Liked the change to "just because we're undercover doesn't mean we're crooks!" _Just disregard that we're constantly on the run through the movie and stole a crown!_
or 0:54 Removing the Izzie angry eyes and the way it's cut in the final version changes the tone a lot _but also implies she actually has a box of Grinded Pony Hooves cereal._ Not made with real ponies! Probably! They also add some great touches and transitions with how she keeps eating it even after his line and then fluidly drops out of the shot.
Watching this for the first time more than half a year after the movie came out is so fascinating to me! Like, this is so much fun and **really** intriguing! There were some things done in here that I would’ve been a-okay with in the final product. Lovely job either way and thank you for sharing this!

Overall, the final product was a polished, fantastic presentation, and I'm glad that's what we got un the movie.
Going with the animation, the start of the song, the animatic had Izzy doing the shoulder shimmy too much. I do like thar she picked Sunny and Pipp out to helps with the chorgraphy instead of just cutting to the three line dancing.
Having Izzy climbing the stack of books and throwing the pages in the air is interesting, and would have been cool to see in full animation. But I still like the going up the stairs and Izzy releasing all the book from the ceiling.
Hitche's verse was cool - were the lyrics slightly different? I'll have to check. Izzy eating the ground hooves was cutier in the full animation, especially when she went for another dip into the box. I'm glad they left that sequence in.
The part with Hitch's hind quarters moving with the beat was a nice call back to his scene un Zepher Hights, if it was in at this early stage, or did they move that from here to there?
I'm glad we got what we got in the final product's bridge - the unicorn butt didn't come off as twerking like it did in the animatic. Also, one of my favorite Izzy expressions is when she says, "Hoops" with the wide eyed. Nice addition to what was in the animatic.
The rap scene - the addition of the hat made a big difference, and liked the full animation version of the horn construction, though the various horn designs in the animatic were funny and interesting.
As time goes on, I'm finding the behind the scenes stuff (like watching the VAs eecord their lines and this animatic) is really enjoyable to watch.

Yeah yeah, sure making it more teen aimed yet taking out the word "homicidal" and "war horns" and changing it to a kid friendly version..
I guess I understand because they want the movie to be a hit with everyone and get money, but they really went back on their promise. I hope the series is what they intended.
Well its for kids, so i guess that word may kind of offensive or like violent word thing..but yeah i Mean yeah it mighty can affect kids so.. i don't really problem with that..cuz sometimes i don't really want some violence word(maybe you found not violence but remember everyone have different things so not all is same so try to respect it)

Yet they took them out and changed their minds. So I guess only the show will have depth. I'm just saying they disappointed me with "money first"
