I've worked as a storyboard artist on My Little Pony: A New Generation.
At the early stage of the production, I've helped set up the comedic tone of the movie working on the song clip Danger, Danger (Angry Mob song).
I'm sharing with you the storyboard animatic song. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I had fun doing it! - Krátké a kreslené filmy

"Millions can't be wrong" is such a strong line, I think because this is exactly how a lot of people think
Not in malice or prejudice, simply in not knowing that the status quo can be challenged and feeling inadequate to 'know better' than everyone they've always known

I find it interesting how they made him go from looking scared to concerned in 3D
Sprout in the final version of the movie is probably meant to be less monstrous and more sympathetic so that he can be redeemed in the series proper.
Well observed! The storyboard gives a first clear direction, then the movie improves during each step of the production.

@@olserknam Yeah I did notice from the concept art to the storyboards and final product they changed Sprout's design quite a bit to look less "cartoon evil" with the messy hair and more "lazy pony who people would underestimate how much damage he can do given power." I think it works better.
@@didieranimations I love sprouts character, he has so much potential ^_^ people got the wrong idea about him, Can't wait to see him on the big screen again with Sunny and Hitch. maybe we'll get another movie with just three of them going on a journey. Obviously, Izzy is coming to she's BEST Girl!

@mlp appledash sparkel Actually Boulder Media made the movie. Hasbro is just a toy company. Didier works for Boulder Media and worked on this storyboard.
@mlp appledash sparkel You do know that a lot of people worked on this movie right? Didier is one of the many talented people who worked in this movie alone. Just look up his name and you will see he also worked on Despicable me 2, The lorax, Smurfs and Ect.
This is his and others art work and animation for the show. He wants to share it, to show others how a movie or animation is made. He is calming his work, not the show it's self.

I love the menace with these lines. The repeated use of "sharpen" feels like making the mob a metaphor for a a sword. They're a weapon being made ready for destruction. I'm surprised they cut it.

In 0:11 you can see Snails coloured pony
And in 1:57 you can see two ponies with their colours and body types

the fandom couldn’t have handled it, it was only in the storyboards for a split second and I’ve already seen fan art of it, we lost innuendo joke privileges a long time ago lol
This is super cool from both a visual AND musical perspective (And it looks like these are the longer versions we hear on the soundtrack album as opposed to the shaved down movie versions) , and I can't wait to see the others you've released. Thank you so much for sharing these with us!

It's super fun to look at this, and then look at the final version.
Some scenes are still there, some are not, some were just shuffled around to a different section of the song. Really interesting.
Also, sprout's design has changed a lot. He definitely looks a bit too much like an over exaggerated villain here, and I'm glad that they changed it so he looks much more like a regular pony (well, just like how real racist people are - just people, not some dude in a trenchcoat twirling his mustache)
You've just described the animation production process :) at each step of the production the movie gets better and better. The storyboard gives a strong first visual direction, then everything improves and gets more and more subtle.
ok so I know what the actual movie is about but omg this is making me think so much of a version of this where sprout is some kind of changeling type thing and is the 'stranger' he's talking about, stirring up fear while seamlessly taking over the town. also I *love* how expressive the animatics are, the movie is beautiful but I feel sad that a lot of the goofier and more extreme expressions kind of got lost in the streamlining

It's interesting how some lyrics were changed for the final animated song sequence but this animatic is still great and strangely addicting to watch.

Thank you! They wanted to keep his collar has the next step of his evolution. At first he's just a substitute then he becomes the leader 😄
So, did you get to have any part of the production after the animatics, or did you have to wait for the release to see what they did with your storyboarding? Were you surprised with some of the changes and pleased with how it turned out over all?
Great question, thank you! After I did the animatics, I've discovered the final version when the movie was released. I was really pleased with how it turned out, the directors and animation team made an amazing work taking those music clip to the next level!!!

Good point! In this version it was supposed to be a random pony a granny. It's later that the directors had the brilliant idea to make Sprout's mom sings with him 😂
I didn't watch this movie for 2 years but when i rewatch i realized that this soundtrack was inspired by The Offspring Self Esteem

I wonder why they made such a small change from "You don't need reason, you don't need sense" to "You don't need reason, fillies and gents." Maybe just wanted it to be less repetitive.
because it sounded like s*x instead of sense lol
Only thing we really lost from this version was an additional verse and chorus. It's fun, but doesn't change the song up too much through its lack of inclusion.
And I'm glad we got a different prelude to the song and different imagery. Mainly that Sprout didn't have his dictator outfit yet, and I dunno, but him standing on top of that podium feels a lot more reflective of what he'd become later (and quite frankly, a lot more imposing) than him dancing around on a pole.

I think the voice of the song was not Keon Jong's and it was from one of the producers, his name is Alan, but with that I'm going to say that I love his voice, and I love the parts where he goes out of tune, it's very cool, man 💖

This is pretty good, but what made the animators to change some of the bits from your storyboard to the final animation
That's the directors decision. The storyboard artists propose different versions adn the directors give notes and decide what to keep. They have the global vision for the movie and give it one strong direction. They changed some of the beats to make it fit the whole movie tone and it worked great! 😁
