I love the M1A and the garand platform in general. My CMP garand is the pride jewel in my collection. Ive seen a few videos on that optic rail shearing at the forward bolt screw. Clint Smith had it Happen at thunder Ranch with the TFBTV crew. His smith fixed it super fast. There is a way you could strengthen it if needed. I think it often happens with optics over 20oz. A red dot probably wouldn't hurt it. I want the scout squad for the extra barrel length but the socom 16 has me intrigued. Caused me many sleepless nights cruising the Internet 😂
Nice looking rifle. I put mine(NY state legal) in a DuPage wooden stock, really makes it pop. I'm contemplating on taking that rail off and putting a full handguard on it....
Concur 100%. M1A is really hard to beat. I agree with comments about magazine price, but it seems the only lo-priced magazines are for ARs and Glocks. Scout is on my short list.
You cannot go wrong with either! Probably whichever you can get a better price on? I have the Socom 16 and I just love it! Short and compact. A snubnosed .308!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Squad Scout is getting too close to a full-sized m1a? Either way, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought an after market front sight for my scout squad, making it the same as the socom. Beyond that, 16 inches vs 18 inches isn't a big deal. Also have a standard 22 inch. So-called "tanker" is a socom without the "squad" set up for optics. NIce as well. 16 in vs 16.5 . Hard to go wrong with the platform.
Funny! I had all kinds of trouble with the OEM on my Socom 16. I put on a new standard front sight, and it made all the difference for me. Enjoy your rifle!
@@d7dun1010 It's why I also have a 22 inch standard but I put a new flash hider on with a bayonet lug . . . gotta' enjoy the rifle . . . if the eyes weren't 71 years old . . .
It’s too bad they can’t make or update the system to accept ar10 mags. The same goes for the mini ruger 14. Or better sad to say this but make the magazines more affordable. A 10 round mag costs anywhere between mid 30 close to 40$ per mag. Unless you go for the cheap knockoff stuff but then your running into magazine issues.
"Armory" excellent rifle

400 yards iron site. Love my scout. Don't put a scope on it, you won't need it.
Extreme use of the term "weapon system".
The Scout Squad is an excellent multi purpose firearm.
"Waco guns show" - was there as well. Good show.
Fair point on the use of weapon system. Thanks for the advice!
I did like the Waco show. Did you get the leaflet on your car window too?
Cant decide between socom 16 or scout squad

@@d7dun1010 love that answer! Yeah i was leaning more towards socom16 for a perfect truck rifle. Im a shorter dude so i think it fits me better.

@@d7dun1010 why? The ar10 mags are far more superior in design than the M1A.
Guess my attempt at humor failed? Try not to get too serious about this stuff until it's time to get serious
