In this episode I talk about both the enlisted and officer ranking systems and how to make rank. I forgot to say this in the video but you will get paid on the 1st and 15th of each month. The Navy pays by direct deposit.

After I get my complete my RN-BSN, I will be trying my hand at the navy. I currently work at a level 1 trauma facility getting great experience. By the time I finish up this bridge program I’ll have 2.5 years of experience. I’m very excited about this prospect.

Hello, I have a question. I’ve been a nurse here in Az for abut 5 yrs with my nclex-RN license and currently still practicing as a civilian nurse. I have my BSN degree from the Philippines graduate of 2015 and I pursued my MSN-L in 2019, it’s weird because they still ranked me as an O-1 for the US Navy but when I applied for my package in the US Airforce they ranked me as an O-2. What are your thoughts about this? It’s like they dismissed my work experience as a nurse here in the Us and just accredited my MSN years.
That’s interesting. I’m not sure why the Navy did not acknowledge your prior nurse experience. Sorry, I don’t have a good answer for you.

If you are a Civilian Nurse and you join as a Reserve ? How can you be an Officer ? Do you need to switch to Active ?
You can be an officer as a reservist as well.
@@itsestelarojas4713 thank you so much . May I ask how many months will you be gone from your work if you start Boot Camp? Will you not come back after 10 weeks ? Because I’m thinking of my rent and car monthly payment.
@@YiskaGudricht Officer Development School (ODS) is bootcamp for officers and is 5 weeks long.

Thanks for the video. Good info. How many looks do you get for O4 before a forced retirement?
Hello and thank you! Technically, you get two looks while you are "in zone" for 0-4 before you are forced to retire. However, you may get more looks if the board looks at you while you are "below zone." It all depends on how many people are in and above zone and who are picked to promote. If you are prior enlisted you can do something called "reversion" where you can resign and re-enlist in order to reach 20 years and get your retirement. There are really strict guidelines for this though.

ozeh llc good question. One of my friends went in at O-2 and another went in at O-1 both held an MSN. So some form of clarification would be great.

From what I know, as a nurse you come in as an 0-1 even if you have a Masters. However, if you come in with a Masters degree and are joining the Navy as a Medical Service Corps Officer (administrative) you’ll come in as an O-2.

ozeh llc The only one I know of is the Female Navy Officer group, but you have to already be an officer or be a veteran or retired.
Does this ranking layout also apply to reserves? so if I sign 5 years, will I go in as an O-1 and then on become an O2 at my 2nd yr in the reserve? (I'm BSN with 4yrs experience, all 4 yrs I have worked 2 jobs ICU and case management. Plan to quit one and try reserve).
The ranking system is the same. I’m not sure about time in rate for the reserves though.

I would agree. But it just depends on the night. 🤷♀️ It can get pretty busy.
Im a petty officer 2nd class and the navy pays me an extra 400 a month because I speak Russian!!

Can be anywhere from a LCDR to a Captain.

Edwidg Alexis All enlisted ranks are technically “under you.” But it depends where you are stationed which enlisted personnel you are responsible for.

Hello! No one can join as an 0-2. Everyone starts as an 0-1 although those with more experience won’t have to do the usual 2 years as an 0-1. Experience lets people get to 0-2 faster.
Can you make 0-4 in the Navy without a graduate degree?

Will the Navy work with you when attempting to earn your masters while serving active duty? As far as schedule and duties, do they take your education into consideration?
How about financial support, do they provide financial aid with certifications if you commit to more time? Are you maybe able to take those courses free through they Navy?
Jamie Najera You can get tuition assistance to help you with the costs of graduate school. The Navy generally does not change your schedule and duties to work around your class schedule if you are taking classes on your own. The mission and your primary duties come first. There is a competitive program called DUINS that if accepted into, will be your primary duty. Essentially the Navy will pay for your graduate school and your job will be to go to college. The Navy does reimburse you for certifications.
