Today's video is on the second half of "the muscle" associated with The Boys... The Frenchman, aka Frenchie. Frenchie is a war veteran who joins the boys after losing his way in life. He is part of both incarnations of the boys. He has super strength, speed, and smell due to his exposure to compound V, and he is actively involved in rehabilitating The Female of the Species. - Zábava

Followed but I'm unsure how this works to be honest. Not very familiar with Twitter.
Show Frenchie: Sympathetic but flawed human
Comic Frenchie: *HON HON HON*
Deduction comic book better
I think the graphic novels were better overall for a classic look, the show was a much better blockbuster hit if that makes sense? I do, however, love the way the show portrayed Frenchie. It was a lot more hardcore and I got a lot more out of him. Really took my interest in the character to the next level.
@@draxbrady1535 The novels are way too needlessly edgy and sadistic. The show works better as a reflection of modern consumerist culture and for having far more nuanced and sympathetic characters, not edgy one noters
@@truedarkness4052 Yeah, like with the deeps fucking 2 episode character arc we asked for
@@truedarkness4052 thing is the books are a satire of all the dreadful grimderp late 90's early 00's comic books whereas the show is a poke at the MCU and its mugging of pop culture
Kimiko: I’m sad cause my brother died
Frenchie:😘
Lmao
He wanted to cheer her up! Lol
I mean he was high on cocaine so..
Yeah he was high af
Well, he is French
Him being french isn’t even talked about in the show but the comics go full blown Monty Python on that shit.
😁😁😁😁
I think he straight up says he was born in America at one point
@@poprocks6576 I dont think so, Frenchie has a french accent, listens to french music, and says he moved to New York(and subsequently had to stay in a homeless shelter for years becuase he couldn't afford the high cost of living)
@@BeaverChainsaw lol yeah I hadn't finished the show at that point
he does mention that he lived in Montreal, which is the second biggest french-speaking city.
As a French, I have to say the actor playing Frenchie is absolutely incredible. He's spot on what a guy from Marseille would be like. And the choice in rap music is very good too.
Kaaris dans l’épisode 4 saison 2 >>
What are the artists he listens too? Jw
@@TyRave try Guizmo, Youssoupha and Kaaris
Excellent
@@Cacophaton french raps makes so much sense bc the language just naturally always sounds like it flows anyway.
My favorite scene in The Boys comics is when Frenchie and The Female are playing "reverse strip-poker". Whoever loses puts on more clothes. They're all bundled in coats and stacks of hats XD
You can't hate frenchie
capitano moe the person who hate French
In a lot of ways the show is much better, but this storyline kept cracking me up. The Boys is a parody of superhero comics. So this is taking a jab at origin stories like Batman or Superman. Mostly Batman because of the dead parents. But this was freaking hilarious lol
I agree, it’s fairly harmless humor, and a wave of joking about French culture while outright admitting you’re making it a paraody
Would say it's more of a satire than a parody, since they are made fun of in a negative light
Garth Ennis, the writer of the Boys, is also from the UK originally, and they still like to poke fun at French people over there, which is probably why the French stereotypes in particular are emphasized in the comics.
@@AlphaOmegaCreations Spot on. Lol
Actually It looks like a reference to a comedic comics from the 70-80s called "Super Dupont" by a French artist named Gotlib.
In the TV show I swear Homelander is gonna meet his demise to Black Pierre
Yeah Black Pierre is pretty strong ngl
Black Pierre is the secret weapon
Actually Stan Edgar is secretly Black Pieree
When Black Noir takes off his mask in the end, it'll be revealed that he's Black Pierre.
In before Black Pierre gonna steal Butcher's wife from Homelander.
I definitely like his backstory in the TV show better
Same here
What exactly is his back story there?
HeresFrank Betches He wanted to be with his mom, his dad took him with him and abused him and when he found the chance to escape, his dad would find him and take him back and abuse him even more
“One night, he tried to smother me with a Hello Kitty duvet”
It wasn't directly mentioned yet, but I do think Frenchie is a war veteran in the show too, in the new season Billy says something about Hughie like this "What should we expect he is a civilian", which makes me believe that Frenchie and MM were also military.
As a french, I have never been more offended by something I 100 agree with. Death by baguette... genius
*"Croissant!"*
I love how weird the comics go with him being French. His dad died because a man named Black Pierre blocked his bicycle wheel with a croissant while they where jousting with baguettes. Come on, Be honest you would love to see this in the show wouldn't you?
Yes
LMAOOOO
😂😂😂 Oui
I’ve honestly been running on the head canon that The Frenchman isn’t actually French. He just really likes the culture, but his knowledge of France is mostly from high school textbooks
I actually like the show way way better tbh.
Yeah it's not as dark for dark's sake, the characters are more believably assholes. The actors like homelander n butcher also make it better.
I think pretty much everything about the show is better. Every character is covered in depth instead of being thrown away like in the comics, and the show doesn't feel like its just being edgy for the sake of it. Oh, and homelander
Me too. Very well done.
Eric kripke knows how to create a fandom, omg.
He def has a background in cult relations.
Has anyone checked his history?😕😄
man the tv show is gonna make us REALLY attach to the characters, till Butcher does his final bit(unless they dont follow the comic ending).
HighInCaffine I would hate the comic ending, building characters up for nothing.
The Israeli actor who plays Frenchie is incredible
Tomer Kapon
He's by far one of my favs
I have to say pretty much everybody is cast super well and fit their roles amazingly in the boys.
Garrett butcher’s accent doesn’t sound like any actual British accent but he’s still great in every other way and the accent doesn’t really bother me. It’s just that when they first said he was British I was surprised because I thought he sounded Australian (plus he kept saying cunt lol). Other than that I have literally no complaints about the casting or performances.
@@xant8344 yea he says cunt definitely sounds more Australian.
@@xant8344 The actor is Aussie lol. That's probs why his accent sounds like an Aussie, Cockney hybrid.
This is not supposed to be taken seriously...
He tells the story himself, finishing with "with the boys to the bitter end" ... Huggie then asks Butcher if the story is true and Butcher replies "The last line is the bit that counts"...
This backstory is not serious nor does it have to be... that is the whole point... it is the story that would be told by someone like Frenchie...
I think this is a very crucial piece of information that you left out here...
Hes a israeli who lived near me. is name tomer kapon, i meet with him a lot of times whan i rent apertment in tel aviv, i used to live 2/3 buldings near him hes really nice guy in real life and very humble and dont have celeb ego, and really amazing actor who played in a lot of TV series,i remember i sit in a park with him and he have wolf dog very cute also.i really proud he in this show its so badass!!!
ההופעה שלו נהדרת
@@Selfinflictedhummusrocket ממש נהדרת אחי,בכללי כיף לראות אותו על המסך
@Castle - dude......
@Castle - bro edgy
@Castle - Bruh
Seriously... that panel with the croissant cracked me up. this dude really killed frenchies dad with a croissant and a baguette... what an honorable way for a frenchman to go out.
Isn't it mentioned that he was in the French Foreign Legion, implying that he might not actually be French?
French can join the Foreign Legion, it's called that way because it's main purpose is to act outside french border, in opposition to the army which main purpose is to defend it.
Sure, at it's fouding it was foreign mercenaries, but it's not the standart for quite some times.
I think in the show they say he was in the Legion and hes actually Algerian?
A very solid portion of French Foreign Legionnaires are actual French. They're given Belgian or Canadian citizenship when they join.
Uncle Fester That would make sense in the show if his character was French Algerian. The actor is Middle Eastern.
@@ShnoogleMan He's Isreali. Technically middle eastern, but I'd imagine he probably doesn't identify as such. Great actor, Id be interested in seeing his other stuff.
Frenchman is probably my favorite character in the series, at this point in time. In the show you can tell he has a vicious past, with his job being the destruction of superheroes. However, his pacifist ideals shine through during his interactions with the rest of the characters especially with Hughie and the Female. It is obvious that he detest any sort of violence, but he is good at it, and Billy knows this. Billy pretty much forces Frenchie to do what he detests through manipulation and inescapable situations. Love the characters, love the show, love these videos. Thank you.
I've been waiting for this one! I love his character on the show.
This is so dumb, I realized the show tweaked and elevated a lot of ideas.
Yeah like 90% of the characters are really shallow background wise
@@soundwave2481 The Boys comics in general is way worse and way more shallow than the adaptation we've got to be fair. The only reason the show is called the boys is because they use the same names and the same base concept, but so far, everything's been different
Wow, almost like its a satirical jab at superhero culture that was changed to be more grounded and more about our times. Who would’ve thought.
Key issues his backstory is hilarious they were obviously making fun of Batman's parents dying
From my understanding of his character from the Comics his entire backstory is entirely made up - He fought as part of the french forein legion and is not actually french. However he was driven insane by the violence and brutality he experienced during his time with legion. He absorbed all the french clichés he has learned from that time to portray himself as (what he views as) convincingly french.
The comics arent shy of cartoonish absurdities while the tv show has more grounded appeal (obviously) but knowing the french joust on bicycles with baguettes as lances.... changes a man
So watching the show, I was sooo into hughie but learning so much about the comics, mothers milks monster mom is definitely a favorite!
Yeah that’s a creeeeeeeeeepy scene. He basically kept her chained up so he didn’t die.
I wonder how they will interpret that in the show?
@@youssefchaoui2940 probably won't
@@youssefchaoui2940
better if they don't. the concept is pretty stupid tbh
@@KeyIssues I wouldn't say chained up. If you're talking about when Hughie sought her out, she was just a monstrosity in the basement. Kinda made since cause she gave up post her husband's death.
Oui oui, Hon Hon, Baguette.
Ah yes, the pinnacle of French language

Funny how the small guys are the muscle considering the other to are huge!
This guy is the living embodiment of the term “French Henchman”
I'm french and ... amagawd! the story is so 'cliché' it's actually hilarous ^^ of course in France we practice bicycles duels with baguettes and everybody is dressed with black & white longsleeves t-shirts ^^
La manière dont il dit bonjour à tout le monde, on dirait OSS 117 ahaha

The very few times that the live action guy is actually looks cooler than the source material.
From what I’ve seen with much of the comic series vs the TV show, the show puts way more effort into fleshing out a lot of supporting cast members and making minor changes that have lasting effects in making the show truly enjoyable. It tells the same tale, much of the beats are hit, but its far more recognizable that the people on the show are important
“Mon dad!” Had me rolling 😂🤣😂
I ADORE Frenchie. Probably my favorite character of the series.
Can we give a round of applause to the casting directors?? Like seriously impressive.
Here’s my theory on The Frenchman. He was an Englishman who joined the French Foreign Legion, went insane, and thought he was French.
"La plume de ma tente est sur la table" means
"My aunt's feather is on the table"
Tf?
tante, not tente... you don't camp in your aunt.
@@johnwotek3816 lmao what?
@@youssefchaoui2940 A tente is a tent. A tante is an aunt. You camp in the first, you see the other at familly dinner.
@@johnwotek3816 who ever made language was drunk
@@youssefchaoui2940 It's french and english... being drunk is our normal state.
The Frenchman is absolutely my favorite character in the show!
I like the soft accordion French music in the back
I know why they are doing one episode per week but I hate that I have to wait because the first 3 episodes were so freaking good
Great stuff!!! Enjoying every video :)
"It's kind of hard to tell if it's actually the real story or if it's fabricated."
Uh.... no, it really isn't.
Yeah I was heartbroken when the Frenchman into female died in the comic books. Grand the last six issues of the comic book was one hell of a roller coaster
I’m not gonna lie, tripping on croissant seems deliciously terrifying
In the season finale: Billie Butcher releases COVID-19 to kill supes
I just finish the comics 3 days ago and the end for Frenchie is so so sad...Hope the shows change that
So butcher ends up killing his entire team because they wanted to stop his plan to kill anyone with compound v in their system?

Nice video you know when you read that " la plume de ma tante sur la table " it was funny as hell because you couldn't even prounce it well but the video was good man
Being french myself, i actually found Frenchie's backstory hilarious af
I would love to see a video on Hughie. Definitely one of my favorite characters!
I don't have a Twitter and don't want to follow you on a ghost account.
But like your old videos.
I'm super excited to see what goes down between Stormfront and Homelander. It's gunna be so intense.
I would love if they put this in the show, come on it’s hilarious!!
The show is basically how the comics should have been
*Yeah, no.*
Following :) I've recently become obsessed with your origin videos! how do you contact winners?
Twitter!
In the comics I feel like he’s only French because of the whole allies punchline when they kill Stormfront. In the show he is ALOT more fleshed out and deep
Key issues can you do a ranking of all the antman, wasp, and quantum realm suits that would be really cool
The backstory issue name, it’s from a bit during an English stand-up (Eddie Izzard) from back in the 90’s!
I love seeing Frenchie interacting with the Female
Bicycles and baguettes. Cant get anymore French than that.
Frenchie and Kimiko the 2020 version of Leon and Mathilda
MON DAAAAAAAD!
Yes, the background music makes feel like I'm in France 😂
The bread spear part is so stupid, we really should try it when there is a fight between two people haha j'adore
Thnx! I usually read comics but i avoid superhero comics so I can see why this one went under my radar. Would've loved it 😅 very curious about frenchies character, in the comic vs show. He is my absolute favorite on the show and I find him to be a wonderful mix of funny, human, and existential. He's the best ☺️
Good video bro
I really like Frenchie, his personality and development is similar to Bernadotte from Hellsing
Are we not gonna talk about him yelling Mon DAD!
i love this character the most hopefully i can get the comic book too!
Will you ever do a Jack from Jupiter video? I know he was replaced by Translucent in the show. At least, if you know, explain why he was replaced and maybe his origin.
I just started reading the comics some weeks ago. It was strange to learn that there, the female isn't that special, and that all - Frenchie most of all - are able to wreck havoc, even amongst supes...
yea that’s why the comics seem kinda dumb to me shows better
@@steezyslimes9860 The comic is deliberately absurd. The show tried to sidestep a lot of that absurdity, but it still creeps in sometimes.
@@steezyslimes9860 No, you want to watch more development of the deep in every episode!!
So when are we getting the tv version of Black Pierre and how will his character differ by being some noble guy who helped kill his dad but took the blame so Frenchie could escape to the US?
Haven’t read the comics
Just going off the show
Tv Frenchie is my favorite
Tomer capone is a great fucking actor
2:43 maybe we can try to predict what war he served in by looking at the weapons and using some Google And look up what wars France has been involve them
Close to decent pronunciation, main issue was the e’s are silent in tante and table. Good effort tho!
Considering he calls his mother “mum” and Billy shows his file from the French Foreign Legion, I think he’s just a crazy Brit
What happened to the hewie vid or hasn’t it been done yet
Mother's Milk's brother had a peanut alergy.
Can you go in depth for Mister Marathon and his comic book origins please?
You mention he has compound v in his system when he dies... but you didn't explain that
In the comics all the boys use Compound V regularly to give them temporary powers
@@DeadManSinging1 thank you for saying that... but it wasnt explained in the video was curious about that
@Hiro Shao Because the bio-weapon he developed kills anyone who was ever even exposed to Compound V
Also, in the comics, MM and The Female are full blown supes
@@DeadManSinging1 *No one on the team is a supe. They just have Compound V in their systems. This is by design.*
@@DeadManSinging1 *When Greg Mallory came up with the idea for the team, he deliberately had Jonah Vogelbaum make the program cost-prohibitive from creating government powered supes. It was one-shot deal granting a permanent boost to the human body. It absolutely could not make a person fly, be bulletproof or give them superpowers. Each shot costed nineteen billion dollars on purpose. So Mallory got the first shot, then Butcher after Mallory recruited him, then the Frenchman. Mother's Milk was born with Compound V already in his system. The Female got exposed to a bucket of Compound V waste when she was an infant. And Wee Hughie got a shot shortly after he got recruited by Butcher (against his will). The V grants strength and durability fifteen to twenty more than the average human, slows the aging process and turns your shit blue.*
It looks like his nickname is Le Bageutte
frenchie and the female are my favorites in the comic

Frenchie is one of my favorite of the Boys, in the tv show anyways

I can see why you didn’t do a video on him before...
The french in the beginning is "my aunt's pen is on the table"
“Frenchie is a violent character” shows a panel of kicking a poor supe in the balls
The show is so much better than the comics which isn’t something you hear often when it comes to these things
True . the comic writing is just weird af. Like it's ruined milk for me
