    Having owned five afghans two of which were show dogs, I found the before and after pictures interesting. Isis in the before pictured hadn't been groomed for some time. It takes weeks for the facial fuzz on an adult to grow that long and the dry skin and flaking in her saddle takes quite a while to get that bad. She also hadn't been saddled in quite some time. It was an excellent video in respect of showing what most peoples pet afghans can look like when properly maintained.

    I groom 2 Afghans and it does take me 2 or 3 hours just to dry one! It takes me about 2 to 3 hours of drying slowly while brushing to get them perfectly dry. They do take longer to groom than a lot of other breeds, the entire grooming process takes me about 6 1/2 to sometimes 8 hours per dog from start to finish. They come to me twice a month for a bath and once every six weeks for a hand stripping and a light trim…..

    • @TransgroomTV
      @TransgroomTV  Před 3 lety

      Hello Mandi , yes you are correct , it takes a long of groomingtime for an afghan. As long as the dog can keep those hours on the table and you are earning money. it's all ok. a lot of respect for you !!

    Many of us REALLY Love the Oriental look of mandarins and the beard, I had such Afghans that had such look, along with their very oriental Eyes. this was about 40-50 years ago Very Square body, no Skinny snake looking tail, no sway backs either .Yes did have some what a saddle.. things may have changed like women wearing Rainbow hair, nose and lip rings with chains connecting, and revealing clothes.

    Watching this three years or so on, I'd imagine Isis there had more than few itchy spots on the back and hips that were getting dealt with while the stripping was being done.
    And I agree about not brushing dry, fresh off a bath is good because the hairs would have plumped up and closed up a lot of the spread scales. The ones that didn't close would more easily get snapped off making the chance for matting later, lower right?

    Thank you for the wonderful video. I was wondering about something. What happened when the Afghan ran wild who cared for the coat ? Because I am thinking of buying an Afghan, I wondered how did they run wild without getting their coat matted. Let me know.

    • @TransgroomTV
      @TransgroomTV  Před rokem

      Hello Hope, thank you for your question . Any afghan's coat creat matts , if he is leaving as a show dog of a running wild dog ... it's al depending of the time you want to invest in coat care . You have to brush the coat a couple of times a week . if you don't do that, or you don't have the opportunity , he will be matted, .. It's very nice the long healthy coat , but it takes some time .

    • @TransgroomTV
      @TransgroomTV  Před 3 lety +2

      Hello Carissa, Thank you for your question . I do not prefer to scissor the long hair of an AH. it will change the coat, make more matts and it will change the colour of the Fur . it will ask more time to maintain the coat . so please be aware if you want to scissor your dogs coat . Greetings.

      Sounds like you should have purchased a Saluki instead. Why get such a beautiful dog if you are just going to butcher its hair? I had 2, never shown, but always kept the hair long. Wasn't that difficult to keep it tangle free and clean.
