- Learn how to grown Sacred Lotus (nelumbo nucifera) from seed! Even if you don't have a pond or a aquaponic system you can grow it in a bucket using this method.
Lotus plant starts producing flowers after about one year from planting. It's a sacred plant with various uses including food. Lotus is the national flower of India and it's seeds were found viable after 1000 years!!
Lotus is often confused with the water Lily. Both the water Lily and the Lotus are aquatic plants and similar looking with showy flowers, however, they are not the same.

The first picture of the opening is a waterlilly, not a lotus , which is the second one. The seeds I bought were already scarified which was a great help, I got them online. It’s always an iffy thing online seeds, it’s hard to know what you are getting. Good video, the floating leaves are the immature ones, next comes the ones held above the water. And when the Lotus lust really hits check out Ten Mile Creek Nursery, they even have mini’s for “pond pots”. Also You Tube Todd’s Tropicals, lotus, orchids, frankincense trees. 🌱💚
Aloha, I've seen many videos where they harvest & make various dishes with the Lotus Plant. They use the different part of the Lotus plant to cook with.

Hi, my seeds would not sprout after 4 weeks, so I gently sliced one open and it event sprouted. Is this normal practice if they will not sprout? They are pink sacred lotus seeds from Vietnam.
You should verify which head of the seed should be scarified.
Weve been working hard to get our greenhouse and sunroom in food and medicine production. I'm just now when the seeds get here growing Nelumbo nucifera in a livestock waterer. I hope we get a good start on our lotus.
The leafes probaly turn brown because you didnt give them light, and lotus even when they are seeds require light
Can I use lecca/aqua soil (soil is fertilized, used for aquariums) or should I use sand/gravel mix
