After 1 1/2 years of not having a car I finally bought one!
I got a 1992 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 to make a 190 Evo II Cosworth replica and then drive it across Canada and the States hosting pop up car meets, cookouts, and shining the light in car culture everywhere I go.
My budget for the build is $20,000... only problem is I don't have $20,000 so I made these shirts. Every dollar made from them will go towards building the car and driving across the country.
Thanks to Steve at Riegel Tuning for helping me get my Car Inspected at His Continental Location: www.continentalautoservice.com/
Thanks to ‪@MENClassics‬ for selling me the headlights & parts from their 190e.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. If you’d like to support buy a shirt & share this video.

The reason nobody at the dealership knows what high mileage badges are anymore is because nothing they currently sell or have sold for the last couple decades is capable of reaching the miles necessary to get the badge 💀

As someone who was in a similar situation with a rusty Subaru last year I would highly recommend doing the work your self. That and using junk yard parts will save you so much money. I started working on cars last January and have learned so much since then. There are so many great CZcams videos on how to fix cars it's amazing. Doing the work myself and using junk yard parts probably saved me about $5000.

2:20 You are absolutely RIGHT, newer cars are made to last no more than 20 years!

  • @Disruptedgarage

Im in the same situation. I removed everything on the underside of the car. Removed all the cladding. Removed engine, hvac. Spent last summer under the car with a sandblaster. Wes hot dirty work. Repaired the rust holes. Its now clean underneath, and waiting for all the new parts, and the M104.

    • @RZRBLAZ
      @RZRBLAZ Před 4 měsíci

Actually better to use a media blaster or dry ice for cleaning cars, unless you have rust. With sandblasting you can actually lose metal and everything else that’s actually fine to save. But what’s done is done, either way I wish you good luck on your build!

Doug & the team are great, I was just there at Continental earlier with my 2003 SL55. Those older Mercedes are tanks, but there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes, even if it's a W123 or 190e. I'm down to help for free if you want 👍

Well CZcams led me here, and by coincidence My Wife and i have a '92 300E, and been self taught on this and have gone through all items you have identified to replace. A lot of CZcams content available, obviously, and adding yours to the list. You can do all those repairs for half or better from the quoted costs. Subscribed! Best of luck!!

Some of these repairs are an opportunity to get custom parts for the new build anyway. You're gonna need new and upgraded brakes and suspension anyway if you wanna make a proper Evo II Replica.

Honestly you're better off stripping the car down yourself, and then take those $3.5k and take your bare shell to a competent body shop who can fix all of that rust in the engine bay, quarter panel, and front fenders. an evo 2 reproduction is extremely expensive, and theres no point in putting all those expensive bits on a rusted out shell that flakes like a saltine cracker. Fix the rust first and strip it down yourself, it might be really intimidating at first but taking stuff apart isn't nearly as bad as putting it back together, and when you have a clean shell you can focus full-time on the drivetrain. This route probably isn't very youtuber friendly though as it's boring, but at least it will be done proper.

I wish I could help you with the rust repair and pulling the engine/Trans. but your time line is to short. I have always had a soft spot for the 190e and I really wanted a 2.3-16 when they first came out. I own a small shop in Calgary and I love doing oddball cars and trucks. If you have been up to Barlow or a few car shows you have probably seen my Pink Dodge D-50.Most of the stuff that was listed is standard old car stuff and can be either fixed or bought new on Rockauto and would not be that much if you did(or helped) with the repairs and cleaning. Over the years I have had young people who waned to get into cars show up at the shop and I have helped them learn about repairing and customizing their rides. One of my friends (former customer) is doing a full custom dash for his 78 280z that we just finished doing a remote mounted turbo system on.

I went through two of them, there's nothing more expensive than a cheap mercedes, though I enjoyed my 190es when they worked.
I can tell you with certainty yours needs a new catalytic converter if the precats are still on, I see it is straight piped otherwise.
The fuel distributor is also a pain and probably will need work.

The higher power models are either far too expensive or too rare for him probably. However, maybe he could do a cool swap. I think a 5cyl from a Volvo or a 6cyl from another Mercedes would be dope. I think he's definitely in it for the body kit though!
