  • In this video, I make two different types of WOODEN COASTERS. The beginner coasters are made with Hickory which gives the coasters a nice rustic look. For the intermediate level coasters, I used scrap wood from my shop. I glued together the different pieces of scrap wood and then ran the glue up through a planer. From this new laminated board, I cut out the coasters.

    Really cool, too bad I don’t have a planer, they look very clean!

      You could make these without a planer. Just start with lumber the same thickness you want your final coaster to be. Thanks for watching!

    Good job. I highly recommend a good microphone for a better quality sound

      Thank you! I now have a mic and I think it has made a huge difference (but let me know what you think). I think this was the last video I made before I got a mic.
      Thanks for watching!

    Couple of questions. What else could you use to seal the wood? i.e. a clear varnish or lacquer? Can you apply that AFTER the beeswax/oil mix?
    Tyia!

      Great questions! Any type of oil based finish will work great. Just don’t use a water based finish (like polycrylic) because water will eat at the finish. And of course since it is a coaster, it will be exposed to water.
      I always apply wax last. The wax is less about sealing the project and more about giving it a great feel. Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes when you make your own coasters!

    How much do you sell them for?

    • @Ben_Grimsley
      @Ben_Grimsley  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I usually sell them for $5 each. At craft shows, I sometimes throw in a set of two coasters if a customer buys a more expensive cutting board. Hope this helps!

  • @jeff2101

    What price range do you sell the basic set for?

    • @Ben_Grimsley
      @Ben_Grimsley  Před měsícem +6

      Usually $20-$25 for a set of 4 coasters. I would up this to $30 if I include a holder. Hope this helps!

      @@Ben_Grimsley Awesome, I have 4 very old oak 6' long true 4x4"s that I have been trying to figure out what to do with. I want to cut and seal them but try and preserve the natural patina. Thanks for the direction.
