  • Me and my son take the M16 Retro Build out for a two-day hike and camping. We do a bit of shooting, but we end up mainly getting surprised by the rough terrain and rattle snakes!

Don't know how I missed this comment, thank you for your service! I was USAF 1990-1994. Thank you for watching!

Yah those old flash lights were horrible. Imagine driving a jeep at night with light restrictions. That was a trip as well. A full moon was always a big help. 25th Inf Div. 80-84.

Thanks for the comment and for watching. The eighties sounded like a good time to be in the military. I was AF 90-94, the first two years was awesome, but everything changed in 92 for the worse.

One of my greatest experiences during the war was SERE school. I still use stuff I learned all these years later.
Did you know you can boil water in a paper cup over open flame? You can even make the cup from a typical sheet of paper.
    Great video. Thanks!

@@n721sw Apparently you already knew that but little things like that could make some interesting videos. Like using your compass to tell what time it is.
These are things you need to pass down to your son as well. You aren't going to be around forever.

Back on topic to Vietnam. I was stationed in the highlands. So I was fortunate enough to get to know many of the indigenous "mountain people" aka "Yards".
I know it's not nice to stereotype but I didn't meet a single one I didn't truly admire & trust with my life.
My reason for bringing them up was their talent for making anything out of nothing. A prime example is the bracelets made from our discarded cartridge cases. Without modern tools! Yes, I still have the one given to me! Perhaps that's a useless item but it's something I'll cherish forever.
Another great video would be making sandals from old tires. Most of the Yards went barefoot but imagine a shtf situation where you didn't have or couldn't get shoes.
They are quick & easy to make with readily available scrap. They are quite comfortable and you can even run in them. Granted I prefer jungle boots but these do work.
Their crossbows were quite deadly too. Again made 100% from stuff they acquired from the jungle.
Hopefully other vets will chime in sharing the few good things that came from the war.
