If Disney had made a prequel Pirates film about Jack Sparrow growing up as a boy, sailing with his younger father Captain Teague (portrayed old as Keith Richards) at the helm, showing how the Jack Sparrow we love came to be who he is, then I would have watched it, assuming that Johnny at least did a cameo at the end.

He could, he owns 2 separate production companies so he could write, direct, star in and produce any movie he wants to in theory. The question is does he want to? Music is his passion and he chose to refuse a big role in all star cast movie that he quite literally owns the rights too. I just assumed Disney took this route after asking Johnny to come back, but Depp refused. I don’t blame Johnny for not doing another Pirates movie, I wouldn’t have either if I was in his shoes. Unfortunately, I do blame Disney for their part in how they treated Depp, so I won’t go to see the movie either. Disney still needs to work on their relationship with Johnny. Look at how many films he did with Disney! He made them so much money over the years. Disney owes Depp big time.
