When is fort belvedere going to start selling studs? Most modern Studs are quite boring and you would probably make some great ones!
Prototypes are done, and the are being made in Germany as I write this. I hope we have the first ones in the shop soon. They will have a mechanic and not come out of the buttonholes, unlike the vintage ones I own. the first set will be matching to the cufflinks, and you will be able to choose how many you buy...
@@gentlemansgazette
That is really well thought out! I hate it when losing a shirt stud and having to buy a full new set of them.
I want to see Prestons white tie ensemble
And so you shall...once it exists! I don't currently own full dress (having never been invited to such a function as yet), but I anticipate that I'll require it in the not-too-distant future, so you can rest assured that when the time comes, we'll cover my experiences here on the channel. Thanks for watching!

@@gentlemansgazette Are dark grey trousers acceptable with a black dinner jacket?
After a whole minute I finally saw him blink.
Somehow I am still wary of this... being.
As always, this was a refined and detailed video that helped a friend of mine in buying his first tuxedo today.
Great job Preston!
Gotta get that tuxedo tailored. You're swimming in it.
The jacket has already been suppressed at the waist; its shoulders are large, due to the "bold look" that was popular during the mid-1950s. As for the trousers, they've got a much fuller cut than is popular today, and a few of the clips we featured did seem to exaggerate the wrinkling that's present, but I'm chalking that up to lighting and a modified stance to illustrate the pleats (in addition to my naturally rotated hips, which I've mentioned elsewhere). With all that said--thanks for watching and commenting! :)
- Preston
@@gentlemansgazette the shoulders definitely make the proportions look a bit weird, but the suit actually fits you quite well
@@gentlemansgazette Preston is GOD.
Your glasses are always super on point, Preston!
14:25 I see my man here😍😍😍😍
The best dressed man that appeared on the silver screen
I'm learning all this because of him
My first introduction to white-tie and black-tie was when I first watched the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. And then in high school, I wore a tuxedo for orchestral performances, though of course we all bought the cheapest we could get away with.
Thanks for making such a detailed comparison!
Looking forward to part 2..... your videos are improving so much...... keep up the good work......
Thanks for watching. Part II will be coming soon! :)
- Preston
I'm ready for this trend of tuxedos with no waist covering to die out.
I ignore the trend in the meantime.
Very informative and nicely done. Thank you.
What did the salad wearing a tuxedo say?
"I feel a bit overdressed."
A dad joke for father's day... oh wait, that was yesterday ;)
Thank you for this great video,
greetings from Austria
@@tintifax838 Gerne!
Another great video, You guys should make a video on men’s bracelets!
Cheers Preston pleased to say that I've already seen da recommended vids & da 1 time I've worn a tux I wore a cumberband 🤘🏼😎👍🏼
This guy knows his stuff. Good job mate
Love Preston but that tuxedo does NOT fit. At all. Especially for someone of a thin build, it needs to fit. No ifs, ands or buts about it
True, me land lover! It looks like he's a stick figure under that tuxedo. Arrrrgh!
I feel like since hes thinner he should go for a single breasted jacket instead of double breasted
I say, so much knowledge in one video!
Cheerio old chap ! 🤣
Very good video. Automatically liked. Legolas looks as sharp as ever.
Great Video Mr.Preston
You Looking Sharp 👍
Heya, could you do a video on fashion for teachers? This would be of complete importance for me. Especially if you speak about jackets for hot places, since most schools here in Brazil haven't ACs or ventilators. It would also be cool if you talked more about suspenders, since belts are somewhat uncomfortable in comparison.
Looking very dapper Preston!
That articulation 😍
You should do a review of the clothes that actors wear in movies set in environments like these. Like American Psycho, the wolf of wall street, etc.
What glasses is Preston wearing? They look awesome!
Great video. Should vest pockets and jacket pockets be of the same style in both cases, i.e. should a jacket with jetted pockets also be worn with a vest with jetted pockets?
Great video yes! And your hair is nice but I suggest a high-fade fringe... I think you could rock that
I hope you discuss white dinner jacket too.
Love tuxedo. Great video.
Amazing shirt!
I own a couple of tuxedos, one traditional black, the other with a cream-colored jacket for warmer evening events. I always wear them with a cummerbund, but I was wondering about waistcoats... do they need to be made from the same material of the suit (grain, shade of black, etc.) or there's some allowance in using a "generic" black formal low-cut waistcoat?
Will there ever be a video about the mess dress?
Thank you mr
Nicely presented! Thanks.
It would be a great idea if you could review a custom suit from websites such as Indochino.
Enjoyed the video. Might just be my slight ocd but I wouldn’t wear brown glasses with a tux.
Ironed pleats on shirt and lint roller/whisk broom on tux please!!!
Awesome video! Do you think that Gentleman's Gazette might consider doing a style breakdown on the Godfather movies?
Great video guys! I'm planning a black tie wedding. Would it be acceptable for the groom (me ;) ) to wear a wing collar along with a white marcella waistcoat, to dress up the outfit and stand out from the guests? Many thanks, JS
I thought shell cordovan was much more informal than calf; so how is it fine for black tie?
Sir,which is better to wear in wedding for the groom??tuxedo or suit
When do you wear a suit vs a tuxedo?
Sweatpants and a hoodie /s
I wear a suit at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, and as for the tuxedo I wear it at either a black tie event or Comic-Con to cosplay as James Bond
A suit will soon be a daily when I have enough to do so. Haven't got a proper black tie ensemble yet but I'll have it when black tie season arrives 👌 thrifted a beautiful Hart Schaffner Marx tux (probably brought to Finland by some emigrant in around the 30s), which will soon be slimmed down a bit since the trouser waist is too wide and the jacket is a bit large. Now I have to ask again, can real tuxedo trousers be without a galon since mine don't have one :/
I would like to wear a tux on my wedding night, regular suit during the day.
@@viggokalman7256 I think the galon for your trousers are needed for a strict black tie, but depending on the event or social circle you attend, you can probably get away with it. Check out the Gentleman's Gazette black tie guide for a better answer.
That's one awesome looking tuxedo
Will shawl lapel on a suit be considered equally formal as notched lapels ?
Cool !
Some times you still see frock coats in England 🏴
Hi I'm new toy your channel.
Thank you for a wonderful Video. I like your effort and style of explanation. It is simple and you have given out good amount of knowledge for people like me.
I am not an expert on these cloths, but I feel the Tuxedo that you are wearing in the video, is too loose. It isn't looking good fitting wise. However, I don't have much knowledge about these kind of clothing, but I see the fitting isn't great.
Are Tuxedos suppose to be loose?
Sorry please don't mind as I lack knowledge but would like to have one in my wardrobe.
prestons doing good on the videos
People are confused as to whether or not they own a tuxedo or suit? If the invite is formal attire, black tie, or specifically says tuxedo then you wear one? Am I missing something?
I WOULD LOVE TO USE TUXEDO
I want to see you guys react to John Cherry
The presenter is absolutely gorgeous
I think a buttoned Tuxedo worn with a low cut evening waistcoat looks good.
Nice and consice video.... well done
Tom Ford as Example Picture, i like it ;D
You wear that Tux well Preston 👌
What if you swap the waist covering with higher rise trousers? Do the same job without adding layering piece.
The trousers should be higher rise to start with... So you still would need the waist covering.
When you got to cuffs, I suddenly remember the scene from Top Hat...
This guy is not human
Some websites say tuxedos can be wore at afternoon as well.... :(
Preston knocks it out of the park again
Liked the Tux but it was a bit dirty and looked a bit big on you (or was that last part just the style back then?)
As for the style: yes, the "bold look" of the mid-1950s was much fuller cut than the slim fashions of today--additionally, I've already had it tailored to some degree. As for the fibers and dust: they're only visible because of our intense studio lighting (and not to the naked eye). We gave the jacket and trousers a thorough brushing before filming. :) Thanks for watching!
- Preston
It’s normal to wear baggy trousers like that?
THANK YOU HUNGRY SKELETON
I have a question.
I have a 2 button tuxedo (like a suit), I was wondering if I can correct it by cutting the bottom button?
The rest of it is fine.
If you cut the button off you'll still be left with the extra button hole; I'd suggest just living with the second button on that jacket; most people won't notice it.
@@eep80674 Thank you.
I also just noticed the buttons are not satin colored. I think I can sew some on. Do you think it is a good thing to do?
@@PureInsanity You could try, if you do I'd suggest you look for a satin that matches the lapel facings as closely as possible.
I prefer suits
So I was browsing Macy's men's suit section out of curiosity earlier in the week. Then CZcams shows me this. Coincidence? I think not.
The edging on those opera pumps need some touching up. You can use regular black shoe cream or wax. Presentation is everything!
Quite right! Since filming the video, I've purchased some black edge & heel dressing to fix them up. All the videos in this series (stay tuned!) were filmed at once, but when you see the pumps again in the future, their edging should be suitably refurbished. Thanks for watching!
- Preston
@@gentlemansgazette Great! I look forward to that!
I take short cuts , I just wear a bow tie and matching cummerbund I also paint my white shirt buttons back .
please give your thoughts on the suit in John Wick 2, for his assassination date.
I love this channel but "the 50s" cut wasnt that roomy like some of the comments are saying. Preston is great but it looks like he is a kid trying on his dads tux as a costume.
Excellent video, Preston.
Is it acceptable to wear a pocket square with a tuxedo?
Also, are white tuxedos considered "real" tuxedos? (e.g. Steve Harvey)
Regarding the pocket square: 17:40m
His mouth moves more than he speaks.... or I'm tripping
Once you see it, you can't unsee it
You trippin
🤣🤣🤣🤣
No hold on you right
He talks like Jim carry
Raphael,
Wo bist du ?!
Slimmer suit will look on you way better. You as a slim guy look even slimmer in wide clothing. In the end it’s your choice and you should wear what you like more but it’s just my opinion.
That tux is so large that it looks like a Halloween custom, I get it’s a “bold” look from the 1950’s, but get with the times... a modern day slim suit is the advice that you should be giving.
Someone get this man a lint roller plz 😆
Supa SilverSurf glad someone else noticed that
Well-done. As an aside, the shirt collar seems a bit low on the neck.
Wow, such detail. I notice that shirts do not have ruffles as some tacky prom tuxes do. Lol. Have you done a guide for prom? Know it is younger crowd but who else to teach them? That would be a hoot to see Sven in powder blue ruffled tux! Lol keep up the good work.
Not a bad idea, Sue! We'll consider it--though I'm not sure of the likelihood of getting Raphael into a powder blue ensemble. :) Thanks for watching!
- Preston
I like the man previously cz his accent is cool.
I sub this channel cz him
Preston is handsome, and Rafael needs a break from making all the videos.
Don’t worry, I doubt Rafael would let videos go up without having s look himself.
Preston has always given quality information and a professional delivery!
Agreed. In particular I like the way Raphael says "loooks like sheet."
looking for the tie at 0:58 ?
I really like the idea of the video on double breasted 3 piece suits
Dude looks like Avallach from witcher 3
Nice yo
I've never worn a suit or a tuxedo. I wonder what it feels like.
Never even a suit?
@Morris Sutton You feel very confident and people always look to you in awe.
Better than any other clothes
@@jaojao1768 I mean I have in Gta vice city.
My personality changes when I'm in a tux.
I’m not a gentleman, so I don’t wear tuxedos, but I’m still watching for the presenter’s charisma. And I guess I may now be more educated on the topic of suits than a lot of guys.🤵
Well at least my lady you can teach your man on how to dress as a gent.
The Enlightener101 nice guy spotted.
You got me sleep cuh if you think if I’m wearing pants that could fit a tree log
In my opinion, Preston gets better with every video.
I just can't stop laughing at this man :D
do people seriously use tophats?
you gotta own at least a rolls royce and be 90 to use one of those
You don’t use top hats you spastic, you wear them.
@@nikogwaj4754 lol
Why do some tuxedos look amazing on display but they look gordy when worn i.e. crushed velvet, satin and ruffles.
Apparently Sven hired a robot to do presenting
Monstervision
Does this guy reminds you android from dragon Ball?
I was thinking more along the lines of Conor from Detroit Become Human
How do you all feel about Double-breasted suit’s where the buttons are pretty far down like the one he wore towards the beginning of the video I hate them
He's like an AI that can be seen on holograms of a year 2080 restaurant
I liked the video
Lower pitch voice should be desirable too.
I feel like Preston has got a bit trigger happy with the in video links
Why people recently talked about "tuxedo" when criticising the current US president attending the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace? I s it a new thing to confuse white tie and tuxedo/dinner jacket?hmmmm....
I can't click on the annotations
