  • Botallack mine has been reconstructed using the best available archaeological data. The 3D reconstruction's development facilitated new discoveries and understanding of the site.
I created the assets, textures, environment and soundscape (excluding the male miner models). I interpreted archaeological data (photographs and ordinance surveys). Modelling the site in 3D helped to established the accuracy of a given interpretation whilst also inspiring new interpretations.
The 3d real-time rendered environment was developed and optimised to run on mobile devices.
The scene was rendered and programmed using Unity 3D and it's universal render pipeline. All objects (excluding humans, terrain and ocean) use one or two 2k texture atlases. The terrain is a custom vertex painted shader and the ocean is a custom shader; both I created using Unity's shader graph.

Probably my favourite place in the whole of Cornwall been here at least 50 times since 1989 would love to go back in time to see it in its heyday

Brings it to life - what the site was really like, when you are at the remains there now.

Most interesting, one small point , I believe the Cornish engine houses were whitewashed back in the day , which would make it slightly less Cornish winter Grey .

Incredible to appreciate all that industry was contemporary with the American Civil War but, although of international significance, it's undeservingly not as famous. Rather like the Coalbrookdale blast furnaces, I wonder how much Cornish tin was exported, in whatever fashion, for the manufacture of technologies exported across the world.

Love what you have done, gives a good overall idea of what it was like but there have been several phases over many years. Shame the Arsenic flues and calciner are not shown though. Well done and thank you.

Fantastic video. Been visiting there since I was a boy and love going back. Amazing to see this reconstruction. Is there a way I can fly around it myself to investigate it further?
