  • @Big-Government-Is-The-Problem

    whats his point? ban .223/5.56 which is a fairly weak round not even considered strong enough for deer hunting in most states? we all know the next steps after a so called "assault weapons ban" is a handgun ban and the VPC gun control lobby even admits this, and basic logic tells you that handguns are the thing that should really be focused on from the logic of ban the gun to stop the crime. rifles are used in 3% of gun homicides and only like 26% of mass shootings. handguns are used in like 90% of gun homicides and over 60% of mass shootings. so where do we go from here dems? you seriously expect to ban and confiscate 300m semi automatic handguns, shotguns, rifles etc? then what? what about revolvers or pump shotguns? they fire too fast also right? we know the end goal here. all we have to do is take a look across the pond to AU, the UK etc to see what you want to do to us. your silly 10 round magazine limit is arbitrary and in some countries that arbitrary number has already been lowered to 5, then 3, and some politicians say it should be 1. the slippery slope argument isnt fake, obviously authoritarians always want more more more. you cant appease tyrants. we are so far past the fantasy land concept of getting rid of 500m guns and probably 10+ billion magazines and 10's of billions of rounds of ammunition. you can call the cops and wait 14 minutes for them to show up, or you can draw your handgun in 3 seconds if you're trapped and fighting is your only option. anyone who would choose their iphone rather than a gun in that situation is a fool.

      I spent 28 years in law enforcement and have a mentally ill parent I'm still dealing with the past 50 plus years. It's really difficult for most people to get MH insurance or it pays for minimal services or MH assistance from the state. If you make just over the salary to get assistance you can't. I've told people that unfortunately you just SOL for the most part and I wish I could help. Our politicians need to help their people and not worry about LGBT or trans or drag shows. I really don't have an issue with them. They just became and issue when DTR became president and made it the norm to spew hate and lies and have no consequences and the religious right thinks kids will become "indoctrinated" I'm straight and have been married 35 years. I think the shows are entertaining and would have no problem taking my child or grandchild to a show. What I am worried about is the religious right "indoctrinating" their children into their beliefs. My bigoted grandparents and the baptist church I was forced to go to when I was young and seeing what hypocrites they were made me leave the church. I'm a spiritual person and believe in teaching right and wrong and to teach children to be good people.

      I agree. However it is common for a lot of mental illness patients to not come in to be diagnosed and even if some are diagnosed, they can still outright refuse treatment. Some people may be in denial about their mental illness, and delusions about one’s state of mental health are completely possible. In the case of that, if they do refuse treatment then they should be disallowed from obtaining such dangerous weapons. If they have not been diagnosed for such illnesses, to make sure that someone who is mentally compromised does not obtain guns, they should ideally undergo diagnosis before being able to buy or obtain. After all, people can’t be forced to receive treatment, but if they don’t receive treatment, they should be deemed unfit to carry. Another thought I came across is that some people may not have enough insurance to cover such treatments, therefore we can also provide more social support for mental health issues.

But there is not one reason for a civilian to carry military grade weapons and high capacity magazines. Those are weapons of war & designed specifically to kill mass numbers of people very quickly. We just need to be reasonable on all sides & work together to find a solution instead of taking the attitude that it has to be either/or.

      @@kennymichaelalanya7134 ok weapons such as spears and bows have been used for hunting and self defense for thousands of years....they're still weapons not tools. same as guns. If you are arguing that arms common for such uses at the time the 2nd amendment should be allowed i.e flint lock rifles and pistols, I could support that interpretation since those were obviously the weapons the authors had in mind and which were very similar and in some cases superior to weapons used by standing armies of the time.
      Having had to study the constitution for my naturalization test I have probably more familiarity with it that many American citizens. The 2nd amendment one of the most poorly worded and punctuated statements ever written, it was drafted mostly as an appeasement of states that feared federal interference. The cracks in the union of states which ultimately lead to the civil war being present from the start.
      The 2nd amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" The right to bare arms is directly tied to the creation and maintenance of state militias as protection at the state level. It makes no mention of sporting or self defense uses. The role of militias is now maintained by state national guard units making private militias un-necessary. Interesting that the supreme court in 2008 clarified that citizens had a right to bare arms for protection of "hearth and home" but also noted that this right was not unlimited, meaning that federal and state governments has the right to place limits on types of arms allowable under the 2nd amendment. Thus, a hand gun ban or an automatic weapon ban is not unconstitutional. There are those that believe the 2nd amendment gives the unlimited right to bare arms of any nature even to the extreme of chemical , biological, or nuclear weapons. They are wrong. Once you agree that the type of weapons that can be legally owned should be limited for the benefit of society. Then the discussion is which weapons should be reasonable to own. The loudest voices in the pro-gun lobby consistently reject that discussion to the detriment of responsible gun owners. So based on a hunting and self defense usage case, I would say the right to bare revolvers in .38 special or 9mm, small capacity self loading rifles in .22 LR, Bolt action rifles in .300 or .308, and low capacity shot guns in 12 gauge or .410 should form the core of legal weapons anything else being considered unusual and therefore not generally allowable. Respect to all.

    • @kennymichaelalanya7134
      @kennymichaelalanya7134 Před rokem

      @@johnnemo6509 the writers of the Constitution had implemented the 2nd Amendment because they believed self defense was a God given right. If you studied the Constitution, you would realize how similar it is to many of the laws the Bible has. Capital punishment, the freedom of religion, prohibition of murder, adultery, theft, and the giving of false testimony against one's neighbor are one of many Bible laws that inspired the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. To protect freedom and our rights you need the 2nd Amendment . Also criminals use switches on guns which is federally illegal plus criminals will always find a way to get better guns if citizens had ill suited weapons. Cartels or shady individuals would sell the illegal guns in your dystopian USA. Alas.

    • @johnnemo6509
      @johnnemo6509 Před rokem

      @@kennymichaelalanya7134 I'm sorry that may be your interpretation of the the 2nd amendment. However, as written the 2nd amendment makes no mention of personal self defense. It only discusses the right to bare arms in relation to state militias. I actually copied the text of 2nd amendment in my earlier post it does not contain the words self defense. As for God, god doesn't give rights or make laws.. people within a society do that. BTW I have lived in many countries with strong gun laws none of them resemble your vision of the dystopian USA. Society is not overrun by criminals , people are safe and happy, they do not fear their government. Have you ever considered that this is an American thing? That something in their psyche is driving them to self destruction, and this fixation on baring arms is a symptom of that? I truly hope that is not the case because the free world relies on a strong and sane America to help fight against real tyrants in the world not the ones in their heads. Respect to all.
