"Enough" is subjective. Working too much can be argued and having a four day work week is something that has worked well for many companies who have experimented with it for a study. There were really no negatives for almost all of them. Bernie Sanders has proposed that and of course is getting HUGE blow back from the right wing but it needs to be seriously looked at.

Money and materialism were the focus of the post-WW2 gen who came back home traumatized but able to afford things that cost an arm and leg nowadays. Because of this focus their parenting skills often consisted of a non-present father and mothers being the primary parent, a job many of them were uneducated and unprepared for. The result can be seen in hundreds of YT videos: adults who were traumatized by alcoholism (their fathers came back from the war traumatized), abuse (as many of our parents were abused as kid themselves), and what we now call "dysfunctional families". And how do we forgive our parents? By taking a close and non-sugary narrative look at their own same-sex "role models" (dad's dad/mom's mom) and then acknowledging that they were sent into a nightmare world war when they were young. This is America....

I remember growing up! before school started, we'd get new clothes, maybe 3 pairs of pants and shirts, new shoes, etc. which we wore all year. Sure, I wanted what my school mates had, but we managed. I don't remember being so miserable as we seem to be today. I don't have less today! I have more. I'm sure most people have more if honesty were the case. Why do we always seem to blame our plight on someone or something other than ourselves? The world will NEVER save you! When will we learn that? You can't depend on others to bail you out! If anyone is going to do anything for you, it will be YOU! Like someone said to me once, "If I help you, I have an agenda!". THAT'S the world! Another guy said, "Why would I loan you money at 6 or 7 percent when I can make 200 percent with it?" See the mindset? You are making a HUGE mistake to think different! Your real close friends MAY be different, but I wouldn't believe that either. I'm not unhappy myself. I'm pissed at the powers that be for manipulating the masses. If you want a better life, do your research! Figure out who's going after big Pharma to lower drug costs. Who's planning to crack down on these corporations for using COVID to bilk us out of money to increase the wealthy and their stock values. Who's cracking down on Banks overcharging for overdrafts? Who's taking the money that was going to the credit lenders for student loans and putting it back into the economy by allowing those people to buy houses, furniture, cars, etc. Better paying jobs with the chips act, infrastructure bill, which will increase the federal revenue to pay for it all. Think twice before you vote to give those CEO's a new car. Nearly 4 million people got an income increase after-tax of over $54,000, effectively a new car. What's in your wallet???? You couldn't hardly make a down-payment on a car with what we got. The bottom 80% of people in this country got an average of around $2500. The top 20% got on average over $6000. That's Trump's idea of help!!

Our political divide and 24 hour news cycle combined with news at our finger tips ALL DAY….contribute in a big way to anxiety and depression. WHY? Both politicians and news media operate on the same premise. If you are anxious or angry, you are more likely to vote, in the case for politicians….or stay tuned in for news outlets who depend on clicks and/or ads and thus anxious/angry eyeballs.
Limit media exposure. Be selective in the media you consume. Don’t fall fr hyperbolic clickbait.
Exercise 3-4 days per week, eat healthy.
Every day, laugh, spend time in thoughts and have your emotions move you to tears (the late college basketball coach, Jim Valvano’s advice). Be with friends and family as often as you can. Do things that feel meaningful and purposeful in your work or volunteering….preferably be involved in something “bigger than yourself”. Practice gratitude daily. (Expect nothing and appreciate everything).
Accept every emotion as it arises. Do not stuff it down, sit with it until it tells you why it is needed in that moment.
This is not an all inclusive list. But if you incorporate these ideas into your day to day life, very little will hold you down for long.

One thing that can allow for some happiness is, if you have at least enough money to cover, healthcare costs, preventive measures, housing, food, and the basics of life it allows you to be a bit happier. Economic prosperity isn't THE key to happiness, agreed. But it is one of them. Hard to find happiness if so many people are working but still just scraping by as companies and corporations continue high pricing in order to milk the effects of the pandemic, not to mention shrinkflation and skimpflation.
All the while so much of our culture shames us for not being at a certain financial level and blames us for not "working harder". If working hard was all it took, we'd have a metric fuckton of millionaires in the country. 🙄

Virtually every way that we live is artificial. We are creatures of this planet, but now we live in ways that are almost completely removed from how we were designed to live, which means we are out of touch with the world and nature. Doctors in Japan are prescribing "walks in the woods" for depressed individuals. That actually helps for a short time, but it also points up the fact of our separation from the actual, real physical world.

However, I live in the deep south and the ignorance of most of them grates on me more than I can say. They are oblivious to the fact that they are so misinformed, uninformed and gullible to fall for a conman's words so easily. They have nothing of value to offer in conversation and are full of hate for people I believe are just living their lives but don't conform to what the majority think is acceptable for them. I can't listen to their hateful rhetoric and parroting of misinformation they gleaned on Facebook. So, I just enjoy my own company and continue to enjoy life. I never feel lonely.
