    DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

    FYI , the raised 'C' is not a copyright mark, it is a foundry mark indicating these parts were moulded by the American Steel plant in Chicago.

    I bought this kit many years ago and only did the first few stages. Just opened it again to have another look and came across the horrible suspension that you mention. I thought I would do some research and found your video stating the problems, glad it wasn't just me who thought the kit was shocking.

  • @SDOne-or6vm
    @SDOne-or6vm Před 6 lety +1

    omg your title scared me so much! I've just bought a dragon sherman actually. But thanks god it's the 6652 kit with the VVSS suspension

  • @HamilkarBarkasScaleModelling

    See what happens Evan...see what happens - if you try to build a dirty Sherman! :D
    Better stay with the good stuff man! Like StuGs or Panzers.
    Although this seems to have been a horrible kit in some ways, it turned out very nicely and you surely gained some experience there.

  • @BrettG64
    @BrettG64 Před 6 lety +10

    Wow, Evan, thanks for this review. I'll definitely skip this kit. This type of stuff is what frustrates me about Dragon. Cobbled together sprues from different kits to make a particular version. I almost tossed the OT-34 I started last year for the very same reasons.
    However, yours turned out good. Great review.

    A2 Shermans were, according to Nicholas Moran, were mainly lend-lease and supplied to the USMC. They were powered by twin diesels and the A3s were powered by the gasoline Ford GAA v8. Yes, the tank used during filming was an A2, but it was supposed to be representing an A3E8 Sherman. Which, to the untrained, looks visually similar to the A2.

    I bought the Dragon WWII M4A3E8 kit two years ago. It was also an absolute horror to build. Nothing would really fit, I had to kit many gaps with putty.
    And oh god those tracks... I went through the pain building them... But I haven't finished the model yet, I plan to replace the tracks with AFV 35033.
    It was the only Dragon kit I ever bought, is Dragon generally bad?

    Nice review on a disappointing kit. I almost pulled the trigger and bought this one and now that I've seen your review, I'm really glad I didn't get it. As far as the tracks go, why not try to find a set of DS tracks? It'd be a lot easier than individual link tracks. Keep the good videos comin'!

    Hi Panzer , very honest review of an expensive Sherman model by Dragon from 3 yrs ago when you were just a 20 yr old college student .
    I notice you've just got yourself a couple of sets of Sherman tank tracks , are you by any chance looking to get your hands on Tamiyas new M18 Tank Killer 1/35 scale. Sherman metal tracks would be perfect , love 💕 your opinion of the kit which has been delayed in the States, though your Canadian, but which I'm picking up tomorrow here in Ireland .
    Best as ever .
    Edward.

      Question for you Panzer , are all M4 metal Sherman 1/35 scale tracks standard for this kit , I was particularly interested in Masterclub as fruil metal tracks have got quite expensive.
      Best Edward.

  • @MickKeenan

      The original ancestor might have been the M4A3 76W HVSS from 1994. But this kit was released in 2005 before they made their better HVSS suspension (first one to use the better suspension was the Thunderbolt kit from 2006).

    This was a bashed-together job, using new and old stuff. Some of the stuff goes back to Italeri, which Dragon copied/licensed some of their oldest Sherman stuff from.

    Great review, but don't sugar coat it. :-) That kit is absolute garbage. You made it farther along than I did on building it before I said "Screw it!", and bought the Tamiya WWII version off a friend. Much nicer build without all the headaches. Still though, I'm using some of the nicer 'accessories' (photo etch, brass shells, tow cable) on my Tamiya kit. I was going to use the individual track links until I saw how useless they were, and went with Fruil tracks. Really, who's the moron who thought it was a good idea to put ejector pins on both sides of the chevrons on the face of the tracks. Total bonehead idea. Again, great review. I look forward to more.

    Its definitely not an m4A3 that's for sure! It's an A2 HVSS it's not got the engine hatch bump stops and it has the rear oval pull up vents! It's a real Fury Sherman m4A2e8 box description is wrong ko m4a3s have that rear end upper deck it's the same hull as Zvezda new Soviet Sherman m4A2 and the rear smoke detector is an A3 part the kits one is the correct one for the m4A2 that's one way about near everyone can tell an A3 to an A2 is the engine hatch blocks that stick up to support them when open and never had the pull up vents behind rear lights the Russian m4A2 rear deck is what you have used honestly buddy

    I stopped buying Dragon kits because of their cheap ass policy of reusing sprues from earlier kits, or varients of the kit Im building. The fit issues that this creates just make for hard work and suck any fun or enjoyment out of the build for me. Combined with missing sprues (had a few of those) Dragon just doesn't seem to care anymore. Fine by me because I don't care about Dragon anymore.
