These Data Centers need to settle near Ocean Water, and use that rather than distressing the entire local Communities. Their do very well financially, and can afford to develop near the ocean fronts and filter the water and purify out the salt in order to have water that cools their facilities. That would make much more sense than taking farms of Fresh Water that the entire local Communities who live there need. What water will the Community use for drinking water if this is given over to a Data Center???

I'm in Greene, Va this is very eye opening. The county here did a forced takeover of the private water company and is now charging the current residents 4-fold to upgrade water and sewage for the future residents and development (and probably Data Centers), which makes our quality of life worse. These companies put their people on the county boards to do these corporations bidding so they can make huge profits, and have the local taxpayers pay for it. The Data centers only employee outside construction workers temporary, and have very few permanent jobs, and also it greatly increases our electric rates.

In our small town 15 years ago, the town allowed a corporation to move onto land that had no sewer/water lines and all the homes around it were assessed 40,000 each forced to attach water/sewer lines and fir good meadure abandon their wells just to support this company - most had to sell. I worked for the town at the time and spoke against this but to no avail.
My sister had the same thing happen to her. County told everyone the sewer & water needed upgraded( all residents payed taxes for upgrade). Once this was done, a contractor came in and build a subdivision and payed $0 to connect to the system! County already knew this contractors plans, but never said a word to any of the residents! My sister bought their house on the end of a street, now her street has a subdivision behind her& all traffic from it goes down her street!!

I’m in northern VA where most of the data centers are. It’s also where most of the population of the state is. I don’t think anyone realizes how many data centers there are. Some campuses are hidden and all you can see is the guard shack and the gates. I think they are trying to keep the grid from going down as many huge companies also have their offices in NOVA. They are seriously talking about running electric lines from here to WV to get power. With all the new info gathering tech and apps that seem to pop up on the regular, I don’t see an end to this. I'm in Greene, Va this is very eye opening. The county here did a forced takeover of the private water company and is now charging the current residents 4-fold to upgrade water and sewage for the future residents and development (and probably Data Centers), which makes our quality of life worse. These companies put their people on the county boards to do these corporations bidding so they can make huge profits, and have the local taxpayers pay for it. The Data centers only employee outside construction workers temporary, and have very few permanent jobs, and also it greatly increases our electric rates.
This is so sad. There is a war on farmers!

This is happening in Carroll Country, Maryland. Power Transfers are to be installed to make a long "extension cord" from Baltimore, MD to Virginia in order to provide electricity to a new data center located in Virginia. These transformers are going to take farmers' land and businesses as well as other citizens' private property. 😢

In our small town 15 years ago, the town allowed a corporation to move onto land that had no sewer/water lines and all the homes around it were assessed 40,000 each forced to attach water/sewer lines and fir good meadure abandon their wells just to support this company - most had to sell. I worked for the town at the time and spoke against this but to no avail.
My sister had the same thing happen to her. County told everyone the sewer & water needed upgraded( all residents payed taxes for upgrade). Once
this was done, a contractor came
in and build a subdivision and payed $0 to connect to the system! County already knew

I’m in northern VA where most of the data centers are. It’s also where most of the population of the state is. I don’t think anyone realizes how many data centers there are. Some campuses are hidden and all you can see is the guard shack and the gates.
I think they are trying to keep the grid from going down as many huge companies also have their offices in NOVA. They are seriously talking about running electric lines from here to WV to get power.
With all the new info gathering tech and apps that seem to pop up on the regular, I don’t see an end to this. It’s extremely disturbing.
Just another reasons farmers and Ranchers need to take over the power & food industry, and deploy directly connected vertical farms, Data Centers and Green Steal to power plants operated by a nation of farmers. This is how we expand farmers and rancher businesses to support our families and farms. Put our family lands in a protected land trust and cancel contracts with the States and Federal Government.

Shame on Caroline County. Although I moved away a few years ago, my family is from Stafford County, King George County and Fredericksburg. I know Caroline County very well as it factors into my family's history. It's a lovely agricultural county full of great people, historic sites and small towns. This couple's land should not be taken in this manner. It's shameful.

I find it hilarious you mentioned the railroads. Which were private companies and corporations that made their fortunes off of the land and resources that the government gave them. Without the government subsidies the rail barons would not have been able to amass the vast fortunes they did.

I warned about eminent domain when Kelo v City of New London said that it was OK to take private land to give to corporations.
The first layer of underlying truth is the County intends to take this land for use by a corporate data center, and not because of any realistic growth that might occur in the forseeable future. The next layer of underlying truth is that any benefit of the data center to the citizens of the Courty will be minimal. The computer scientists and techs employed by the data center will not be hired from the workforce available in that rural Virginia county. The true benefit of the data center will be to government, in the form of the tax revenue it generates. The sad reality of life in America today is that government at all levels has become corrupt. Government cares first and foremost about perpetuating itself, and maximizing the revenue available to it. The rights and needs of the citizens are either not considered at all or relegated to second place, behind the interests of government.
It might be time to start a go fund me for the family’s attorney fees. If not, the family can be financially ruined.

I'm right there with you on the data collection. It's not in our best interest. It also seems like it's becoming the norm for taxpayers to foot the bill for all the infrastructure being used by these corporations. As a private property owner, the public utilities in my area make us pay for the lines run to our property.
