Sorry about the skips, this is how I found the original file.
Lyrics:
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two,
Turn around and you're four,
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door.
Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door.
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Little dirndls and petticoats, where have you gone?
Turn around and you're tiny,
Turn around and you're grown,
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own.
Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own. - Hudba
My great grandmother passed away this past Monday, and I haven't ever cried so hard hard as I did that night. She worked her entire life as a seamstress, sewing her family's clothes too. She was a single mother; her husband died pretty early, leaving her with a mother, three sisters, and a 9-year-old daughter to provide for, and she did it. I grew up knowing her, who I called my Nanny, and the two of us listened to Malvina's music, and she'd sing this to me when I was younger... It reminds me of all the times that I sat on that screened-in front porch of hers on a hot summer evening listening to her old vinyl record player and playing checkers, watching cars go by, and greetings lovely neighbors as they passed. She'd ask how I was, and she'd help guide me through things when I needed advice. We'd sit for hours doing this, and when it got dark, we'd just turn the porch light on and and stay we had finished talking. She was 103 years old when she passed. She was a tough and hard working woman, and a great matriarch for our family. But most importantly, she was a kind and loving friend to all of us.
Thank you for sharing your grandmother with us.
Wow. What an amazing Grandma ❤️
A life well lived. Thank you for sharing her and your memories with us
Beautiful tribute
That was a lovely tribute.❤
This was the song that my youngest daughter and I danced to at her wedding. I'm 63 and it still makes my eyes brim with tears.

Thats beautiful. Im a mother of 2 daughters my oldest is already 12
Unbelievably I was dialing around on the radio two years ago after dropping my older daughter off at college and I ran across this song on some obscure station. It totally brought me to tears. Now just yesterday we dropped off our younger daughter at college so I just had to hear this again. As a father it's so bittersweet watching your daughters grow up.
+Don Flick Don, I'm dropping leaving to drop mine off in about 36 hours. Funny how you don't think about it until....
@Don Flick,I have always known the words to this song even though I wasn't aware of them. But, my only child took his life recently and that song is always in my mind. Hang onto your children as long as you can and let them know that you will always love them. Even though I did...it wasn't enough to defeat the demons that took him away.
I'm 23 years old and I grew up to my grandma singing this to me as I fell asleep.. I now sing it to my baby cousins and friends kids as they go to sleep!
My mom used to sing this to me when I was a toddler. I still hum it to this day and think of her. Thanks for posting it.
She sang this to my sisters too. Every time I hear this, I think of my Mom, who is now deceased unfortunately.
Aww i hear you . My mom and grandpa sang this song to me . My gramps is passed on for 4 years. 😥😢😭
I saw Malvina Reynolds perform at a place called "The Farm" in San Francisco in the early seventies. It was very informal, so I got to meet her. She was wonderful. I've been singing this song all day, so I wondered if it was on You Tube. Thanks so much for posting it.
That’s so cool. Thanks for sharing that . Would have loved to have met her and just said “ Thanks for being You”
One of my favorite songs of all time.
My grandma sings this to even though I’m a 21year old man and I love her for it and has sang since I was adopted at 15 month from Sochi Russia love u BABUSHKA so so much😍😚😙😗😘😌😉🙃🙂☺️😊
Beautiful ❤️
My mother would sing this when I was about 4 or 5 and I would cry. Thank you for posting. I miss her and I miss that little girl
My mother sang it to me also when I was a child! I feel exactly the same way. It still makes me cry :**(
Mary El Nelligar Yeah, me too, along with Puff the Magic Dragon. I wonder what songs mothers sing to their kids these days?
@@kevingarrett8403 If they even do. With the lack of communication that this world now has, I can only hope and pray that they remember their role in their child's life.
Like the rest of the comments on this, my earliest memory is of my mother singing this song. My mother lost her mind nearly two decades ago and every once in a while she sings a line or two absentmindedly. On mother's day I was able to show her the song, which she hadn't heard since the 80s. She cried her heart out. Thank you for uploading this.
My mother played and sang this to me when I was a child. She's gone now. I sing this to me dogs. They love it and love it. I'm crying right now.
Yes me too. Life goes too quickly and we need to love the ones we are with while we can.
Thanks Malvina, it is a pretty song. Hope you are singing it to my Mum up there.
My nana used to sing this to my mom and her siblings and she used to sing it to us and now I'm pregnant and I'm gonna sing it to my babies ❤️😍 I always think of my mom when I hear this
Katie Crowell. - I hope ya did . .. I think that's so sweet & I hope when your daughter grows ups maybe she'll sing it to her children XoXoX #Namaste XoXoX #IAmThatIAm XoXoX #ChadEverhart
My mom would always sing this to me and my siblings to put us to sleep
Actor Chad Everhart Thank you! I have 3 now! I had twins a few months ago just like my mom lol and I sing this to them every night.
My daughters first birthday is in less than a week away. This song really has me crying lmao.
Understated genius.
I end up crying every time I sing along.
A powerful emotional song.
Amazingly Beautiful !!! So simple, so unexpected, so likely to make you cry too
Yep...watch the 1962 Kodak commercial on CZcams or even better one by a 'Wanda' ? She put on CZcams...Kingston Trio and Harry Belafonte sang it most..
David Baker Yep. My babies will always be my babies.
Kim is now Miss Carson, a 38 1/2 yr old teacher; son turned 40 in July and has my three granchildren.
Once a moma bear, always a moma bear.
Talk about a 'tear-jerker'.
Please read my Reply to Susan ^ up there. ^_^
My brother picked this for Father- Daughter Wedding Dance
My mother sung this to me when I was little. And I sung it to my daughters when they were little. And now they have their own babies.
When I was a kid watching the original Disney TV show, Kodak was one of the sponsors. They would regularly run two very memorable ads showing montages of parents interacting with their children. One had 'They Can't Take Away from Me' for a music track, the other 'Turn Around.' It still makes me a little misty, as the mother of a Milennial.
This sweet "down memory lane" song gave me shivers, in a good way. Thank you for posting this - really enjoyed it. It was running through my head, and I just had to go to CZcams to find it, and am very pleased I did. Through the years I'd forgotten some of the lyrics and whether it was written originally for a boy or girl :-) Nice to know she wrote it for a girl, like I used to be so many eons ago lol
What did you mean " like i used to be so many eons ago"?
It seems like eons since I was a little girl, is what I meant lol
Susan MacKenzie Hi Susan, I can't get the the stupid comment box to 'open', so if you don't mind, I'm putting my comment after yours. ^_^
I bought a figurine way back when Kimmie was about six or so, that rotated as the melody played.
It was a Mom with a baby in her arms, then as it turned, there was like a 5 yr old hanging onto to Mom's skirt. As it turned a full 360 degrees, back to the Mom and baby.
Hearing this brings back wonderful memories of my 'babies', and a big lump in my throat.
Thank you so much, uploader.
Research0digo I woulda loved that tune on a music box! Until CZcams came about, was nearly impossible to find the song, period!
My nanny used to sing this to me when I was little. I had to find it as it's been 8 years almost to the day she died. It helps to her it.
Very important song to myself as a 5-8 yr old..Thanks!
Thanks...
Will dance to this with my son, for wedding, just have to change some words of course. Sad though
This singer/ musician Malvina Was pretty unique, she had children was a homemaker, and she was writing all these songs. one day she went to a Pete Seeger concert and went up to him at the concert and said : I’ve written a lot of songs, how do I break into the music business? he said that when he was approached by her that she looked pretty old, probably close to 50 and most people that started in the business were much younger. He tried to be helpful but he didn’t think she would be super successful~ he learned not to “assume” that day, as Malvina became a sensation with her hundreds of folk & childrens songs & numerous records !
Anyone have more info about this woman of song & heart ? 💗
hab mir drei folgen weeds angesehen und fand die titelmelodie so schön. Dass ich eine so schöne Geschichte finde über die Sängerin hätte ich nicht gedacht. Freu mich
Bautiful"Sond°°°••°°°Voice ..thank you..
my mom used to sing this to me when i was young to except she said boy and man instead of girl i love you and miss you so much mom
But what happened when the lines, dirndls and petticoats, came around? It's a really nice song and gesture, either way.
So I'm pretty sure this is when my anxiety started. My mom used to sing this to me when I was little and I remember hating it and thinking "how do I even be an adult so soon?!" I'm in my 30s now and still wondering
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two,
Turn around and you're four,
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door.
Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door.
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Little dirndls and petticoats, where have you gone?2
Turn around and you're tiny,
Turn around and you're grown,
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own.
Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own.

Havent heard this song in alotta years
I think this may have been one of the songs my folks played when I was still in the crib... And thats why I remember it.
Or no...it's when my kid sister was born.
I was three, hence my ability to recall atall. lol
I remember how happy my parents were.I remember my Dad holding me in his arms and introducing me.
She reached out to hold my hand and took hold.
She had a good grip and
this song was playing.
Zounds!
You could download the video, using Firefox.
The Simpsons brought me here.
"Turn around, turn around. Turn around and you're a young man, and you're too big to choke."
I hear dylan's sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Daddy sang this to us to get us to sleep.
Well yes it's not technically legal, but no one enforces it. I'm just trying to help this guy and if he feels guilty about the 49 cents that he's not giving to some company then he should buy it iTunes.
Who else first heard this song on Third Rock From the Sun?
WOTE got me here with their version of Little Boxes
I'm trying to get a recording of this song by Malvina. Can anyone help?
okay, I wasn't trying to be mean of anything. I just thought you should know if you didn't already
My mother used to sing this to me when she put me to bed
Did she write this?
Yes...she was the writer
ess
Yes she did. "The record label on Harry's 1959 single gives writing credit to Harry Belafonte and Alan Greene. Ah, but that's not the whole story. The full writing credit is normally given to Belafonte, Greene, and Malvina Reynolds. So what gives? Although Greene and Belafonte are listed as co-composers, some recent public comments made by friends of Malvina's make it sound as though the song was actually wholly of her making, and that the copyright was set up in this fashion simply because Belafonte made this a condition for his recording it. More accurately, it would appear that Belafonte agreed to record the song only after Alan Greene had made some modifications (most notably the addition of the chorus) to Malvina's original words and music. A couple of the word changes may have been suggested by Belafonte, though in Malvina's own songbooks she credited the song as "Words and Music" by Malvina Reynolds and Alan Greene."- stolen from a friend
no, I don't think its legal. As far as I know, its called illegal downloading since you are not paying for that song. instead you're taking it for free
I’m sorry but the cello sounds remarkably like a kazoo! Otherwise and still and even so I love this song. “Just a Little Boy” is a sort of companion song, but with much more of an activist message
i have legal ownership of this music and i give full permission for it to be stolen
