Written by Gordon Lightfoot. Performed by Joe Paulik. I consider this the most romantic song for the winter season. This snowy setting is just how I imagine the song.
Great cover! I really miss Gordon Lightfoot. I listened to his music growing and still do to this day. Gordon is one of the best ballad singers. May he RIP.
Never forget Gordon at Live 8 in 2005 Barrie. He walks out on stage alone with his guitar and says his band got held up in traffic, then said, he'd do it solo....Was awesome!!! . Reminds me of this.
Saw Joe last weekend up on the North Shore playing in the freezing cold at a resort. It was awesome. This song stole the show. Bought a CD, thanks Joe!!
Spoiler Alert! Hi, when I read the book, “Lightfoot”, I was quite surprised to learn that Gordon Lightfoot wrote this song in an upper floor room, that he used for writing, in downtown Toronto, in July, in the middle of a hot, sticky, heat wave! Check it out for yourself because I found it incredible that a song of angst, set in a cabin/cottage, in a snowy woods, could have been written under the exact opposite circumstances, but there you have it. This might have tarnished my view of this song a little, but I can still close my eyes and picture the song unfolding. Perhaps this knowledge has only enhanced my appreciation, because now I’m more in awe of his creative ability. Bottom line: we have the song to listen to and enjoy regardless of the circumstances of its creation. Your beautiful rendition is the way I like to envision this song! Thank you
I wrote a song called "Days of Summer" in mid February a few years back. Your revelation in this comment supports my feeling of why an homage to the enchanted days of summer would be written at the height of winter, and why an homage to the beauty of a winter winter scene, Song for a Winter's Night, might be written at the pinnacle of summer heat. I think of it this way: If one has fasted from food for a few days, might that not be the perfect time to write an homage to food - when you've fasted from it for a while and feel hunger's pangs? I thank you for your wonderful insightful comment, and hope this helps remove any tarnish from the song. Peace, friend.
@@suzannemcmaken4648 Hi Suzanne, you are absolutely correct. I made an honest mistake so I offer my humble apologies. I just checked page 56 of Nicholas Jennings’s book, “Lightfoot”, and it confirmed that I did get my facts confused. I appreciate you calling me on it. Hopefully, I can go the rest of the day without making another won. 🤔😉
I consider myself to be Gordon’s biggest fan……❤ since 1970. I generally don’t play male covers of his music, because it hurts to much, this being my favorite Gordon song. But your setting drew me in….and you stayed true to Gordon’s arrangement. Thank you for all your effort😊❤.
This has always been my favorite Gordon lightfoot song💕💕💕 I saved this to my playlist… This is every bit as beautiful as his … Glad I found this… I love this… Being from Colorado mountains… I love everything about this post😍
Such a beautiful song, written and recorded by Canada’s treasure and and only your voice could this song justice!! Would love to hear more! Thank you for honoring Gordon’s legacy (living legend)
Thank you, Joe, for your plaintive, poignant tribute to our beloved Gordon Lightfoot’s masterpiece! You sing & play from the heart: which is exactly the way he wrote, performed & lived. The rural, unpretentious, cozy cabin setting lends itself perfectly to the mood of this musical gem…well done! 👌🪵❄️🎼😊❤️
Joe. A quick message from Ireland. I listen to you playing this Gordon Lightfoot classic every night and have done so for a long time. To say you do it justice would be an under statement. Sometimes somebody takes someone else's song and brings it to what it can be. You have done exactly that.
This is really beautiful but I can't watch it knowing that it is only truly Gordon Lightfoot's song and performance that makes it perfect. But this guy comes in a close 2nd. God bless him and may Mr. Lightfoot rest in peace. 🙏🙏🙏
Joe, I completed the video in time for the Memorial Service in Poland today! Stayed up till 5am last night to accomplish that but in my opinion "of my final video" your song was definitely my favorite part. It is at the end of the video. I spent days clipping pieces of a 3 hours of wedding video from 6 years ago and 69 photos and last night assembled them all! Your song really emotionally moved everyone there in Poland as my daughter-in-law and her family have watched the video over and over again as it has been very healing for all them! The title of video is: In memory of Grzegorz Wojtylak! 1946 - 2018. It is posted on my channel "aesarawolf"! I hope you are pleased. Your rendition in my musical opinion is better and more moving than the original by Gordon Lightfoot. I hope to meet you someday! It appears you live in Canada or the North country of the US! Thanks again! Many blessing for making such beautiful music! Daniel
I was fortunate enough to see Gordon in concert, albeit, towards the end of his career when his band was supporting him more, both in playing and vocals. Your cover is quite true to the musician we all knew and loved. Kudos to you and God bless to him.
Another listen .. A favourite GL song.. It's the one I chose for a tribute. You made a most excellent cover Joe .. ♪♫ ♪♫♪♫ ☾ .. and it's a beautiful setting with the snow gently falling.
Excelent guitar work. Gord would be sitting at your feet now. He used to say je was week on the guitar. A fitting compliment to the poet minstrel. The log cabin is our way of freedom from the bank cartell 30 year loans.
Love your take on the song! I would like to use the soundtrack for a memorial video I am producing for my son's father-in-law memorial video I am making who died a few days ago! A Polish Russian guy! Love your voice dude! Love the backdrop!
It reminds gord that he indeed did good down below. He repented publicly each time he picked up a guitar. He was the earer and the doer of the word and best of all a singer of the word to boot.
Gordy just passed today. Canada is mourning today. Very nice rendition Sir!
Great cover! I really miss Gordon Lightfoot. I listened to his music growing and still do to this day. Gordon is one of the best ballad singers. May he RIP.
Gordon is no longer with us, but we still have his music.
This rendition carries the inner feeling of the song.
Thank you.
Never forget Gordon at Live 8 in 2005 Barrie. He walks out on stage alone with his guitar and says his band got held up in traffic, then said, he'd do it solo....Was awesome!!! . Reminds me of this.
Wow a tremendous voice and talent! This is a very touching song! I think Gordon Lightfoot would be honored. You capture his intention amazingly!

Boxing day 2023! Great job and a beaut of a setting for the song!
This was absolutely wonderful. Thank you. Gordon was an outstanding singer song writer and I love his music. RIP Gordon. ❤
Clever flat-picking, sincere voice. Well done, that fellow.
Wonderful cover of a great song... but this setting? Superb! The cabin and song capture the essence of the tune. Truly great work all round!
Thank you for doing such a wonderful justice to this beautiful song.
Very well performed. ✌️🙂
thank you sir ... eyes welling ... beautiful song ... RIP Gordon.
Absolutely beautiful rendition! I still can't believe we lost Gord 😢 RIP

Good rendition, well done.
Nice atmospherics with the falling snow.
This is wonderful, greatly honors/respects Gordon Lightfoot's original!
Beautiful rendition... I hope Gord himself was able to enjoy your excellent tribute.
I'm leery of most CZcams covers, especially songs that are my favorites, but this is really well done. And the setting is brilliant. Well done, sir!
Dennis ... ditto!
Saw Joe last weekend up on the North Shore playing in the freezing cold at a resort. It was awesome. This song stole the show. Bought a CD, thanks Joe!!
Hey Rust Bucket, nice to hear from you again!
I listen to Joe over and over play this song. This recording should be in the millions. What talent!!!❤
Your voice & playing are lovely...and with the snow falling! One of Gordon's best songs. Thanks.
Beautifully done!
Great winter setting and beautifully played and sang.
Beautiful rendition
Nicely done and great back drop👍
I think Gordon himself would stand up and applaud you rendition and your talent!
Awesome 😎!
Excellent guitar playing, j can hear a heavy influence from neil young
I had to look twice to be sure I did not recognize the cabin. Perfect setting.
Great Job, best cover of this song I've ever heard. Thanks Joe!
Fabulous cover of a great tune! Well done, Joe!
An immaculate cover and that's the sort of cabin I could live in for the rest of my life
Certainly one of our greatest balladeers.. loved you Gordy.

Mr. Lightfoot wrote the song in Cleveland, Ohio, during the Summer. 🎶🌞

You do this song justice Joe Paulik, nice clear voice. Beautiful song of Gordon Lightfoot's.
Nice that you included that iconic bass line... lifts the song into the 'special' category..
Agreed.
Peace be with you all.
