    BATMAN BATMAN BATMAN, am I right?
    Which of the two movies do you prefer? It’s hard for me to even say, but i think I lean towards Phantasm 🤷‍♂️
    Before any of you get on me for not mentioning the Justice League Unlimited episode “Epilogue” I had a whole section written up about it but it just seemed… unnecessary. Was more so just a lot of me making fun of Amanda Waller’s plan since it doesn’t recontextualize things much beyond directly including Andrea as a mercenary for some hoaky reason. Oh well, yell at me below why that was dumb of me to not include it please!

      Love the video and going back to the JLU episode, it really bothers me how they need to make Terry related to Bruce. I was wondering how you view Bruce Timm vs Paul Dini in terms of good and poor uses of characters after BTAS? I always view BT as not really being able to grasp a lot of Batman's relationships well, like having the Batgirl-Batman love stories in Killing Joke or everything in Batman Harley Quinn. But PD I think gets the character far better in other properties like the Arkham Games and his episodes of Brave and the Bold.
      BTW the episode is "epilogue"

      Thank you for watching and pointing out the episode error, I just changed it.
      It's hard to say and almost unfair to compare the two since I think they are both drawn to different angles of the character. At least for the Killing Joke, I dont think either one were involved in a writer/director capacity but that movie bothered me so much I haven't revisited it since. Remember enjoying Harley Quinn actually but it has been a while.
      To me, Paul Dini truly is one of the best Batman writers out there though. I look for good characters in my stories and he knows how to cut to character cores really concisely and quickly. He has one of my favorite runs on Detective Comics in addition to all the other great Bat-stuff you mentioned.

    I could see this as a sort of Machete Order for a Batman DCAU marathon, with Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker being the first and final chapters respectively. (though, for that added levity of closure, those final moments of Epilogue that mirrored On Leather Wings could be watched after Return of the Joker as a bookend.)

    I need to rewatch these movies, when I get the chance. Also, iirc the justice league unlimited episode felt more like the end to Terry's journey rather than Bruce's. While there are definitely some unnecessary elements, that flashback with Ace is absolutely beautiful and Waller telling the story shows how much she has grown as a character.

    I have to say the trauma endured in Batman Beyond made Batman a ton more violent toward the joker, in one punch he caused the joker to bleed and he kept going with no care in the world. Even going as far as saying "ill break you"
    I think if the Joker didn't distract him with the hand trick, that Batman mightve have been the one responsible for taking Jokers life that night

    • @RickNazden
      @RickNazden  Před 4 lety +2

      I agree, I think if Tim wasn't in that same room to interfere and potentially see what was next, Bruce would have snapped and killed the Joker. The way the scene was framed reminds me of the sequence from the Hush comics years later that shows Batman just completely whaling on the Joker in an alley after being pushed too far

    6:30 Even though Joker didn't kill Batman's parents in the DCAU he's still just as responsible for him becoming Batman. Because if Joker hadn't killed Carl Beaumont on Valestra's orders Andrea wouldn't have ended things with him and trained to become The Phantasm to avenge her dad. And if Bruce and Andrea had married Bruce wouldn't have thrown himself into becoming Batman.

      Even if they did get married I’d doubt he’d stay normal. His guilt would cause to become Batman regardless.

      It's a good movie but it must have not crossed my mind when I was thinking of other properties to mention. Fortunately, it fits between the two movies and doesn't really complicate the idea of Phantasm and ROTJ as opening and closing chapters for this Batman.

    Epilogue isn't great. Him being Terry's father was just the worst.
    He's also the world's greatest detective, but leaves his DNA all over crime scenes?

    • @ccchezer
      @ccchezer Před 4 lety +2

      Honestly he got beat down a good bit especially in TNBA he bled a lot I could see it being he’s in too much of a hurry to go clean up blood most of the time. Also I think it’s always been an unsaid arrangement that the GCPD could have figured out who he was fairly easily but it was understood by both parties that Batman did more good for the city being able to be a vigilante than it would have if they brought him in so he probably didn’t really care that much if he left a little blood or spit behind now and again.

    Batman Beyond is not a good series...it had a great first season and a few stand-out episodes along the way, plus Return of the Joker was excellent. But much of the show was actually kinda meh to me. Batman: The Animated Series was a terrific series through and through (save for a few dud episodes).
