    Christian Horner:
The Team Principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing began his motorsport career behind the wheel, working his way up to Formula 3000 before swapping the cockpit for a different driving seat - as the boss of his own team. Horner led Red Bull to its first Drivers’ and Constructors’ double in 2010, taking another three consecutive title doubles from 2011-2013. Though the team continued to win races, the arrival of hybrid power in F1 in 2014 marked the end of Red Bull Racing’s first period of dominance. However, Horner once again led the team back to championship glory in 2021, with Max Verstappen winning his first Drivers’ crown and the team’s ninth title. Horner now stands as Formula 1’s longest serving Team Principal.

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race - I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

A lot of Red Bull's success has been credited to Newey and their funding and the drivers, but Horner has been a rather underrated yet key component in their success.
No one thinks of him as the youngest team principal. He's had to wrangle with much more experienced and powerful figures in F1, and he's done a rather decent job of it, with no hint of ever been 'green behind the ears' so to say.
A very articulate man with all his wits about him at all times, rare to see in these days where public personas seem to find a way to put their foot in it every other time they open their mouth.

Really, he didn't win anything for years with the dominance of Merc, he had the next biggest budget and team. Let's not forget, whilst last season RB did much better, they did get a huge amount of luck with Max inheriting the WDC via the race director (Horner choosing to ignore that fact) any other team principal would have been moved years ago. Unfortunately for Horner, he has without a doibt made much more of a name for himself for blowing hot air getting up people's noses, he's obviously bitter about the success of Merc with all them years of hurt, in the words of the well respected Sussie Wolf (Wife of Toto) refaring to Horner. “Sport is brutal. You need to be ruthless, competitive. But I don’t believe that to become successful you need to be an A**hole.” and that there is Horner in a nutshell in my view., he's happy to win at any cost ruining the integrity of the sport.

@@SLOPPY1001 Red Bull's budget has always been behind Mercedes and Ferrari, and crucially, they don't have an engine department. The main reason Red Bull fell behind after 2014 is that the Renault PU really sucks. Things only start to progress after 2019 when Honda joined.
And politics is just part of the sport. Mercedes won't dominate if they didn't know the V6 PU rules from FIA years before, and may not beat Ferrari in 2018 if Toto didn't pursuade FIA to change tyres mid-season (with 7 teams objecting). The only criteria is the result and Horner absolutely did a great job especially winning the 2021 WDC.
BTW, no other team has ruined the intergrity of F1 more than Mercedes. Just look at Canada with the FIA Technical Directive, it's very obvious that Mercedes "instructed" FIA to do what they prefer to be more competitive.

@@SLOPPY1001 I'd say Horner is a very successful team principle. The team has consistently been at the top of the sport for a decade and a bit now, something even the greats like Ferrari and McLaren aren't able to do. End of the each team principle has their own leadership style and Horner is the perfect fit for RB and their marketing style.

    • @m_p3601
      @m_p3601 Před rokem +19

@@SLOPPY1001 A comment devoid of reality. Yes they were lucky to win last year in the end with what went down in AD, but in reality throughout the season they were very unlucky. In reality it was only close at the end because of their BAD luck and the good luck that went LH/Merc's way.
Horner has been one of the sports great team principles, who unlike Toto he has built title winning teams twice now, not just carried on the success laid down by someone else.
No one could beat Merc the previous seven years, that's not an indictment of Horner, but the reality of having such fixed regulations for so long that made it so hard to catch up. If we're criticising people for being A holes, then Horner and Toto should both be condemned, not one without the other, they're the same. If you think Horner should have been fired then that says a lot.

I’m a Red Bull, Seb and Max fan as a disclaimer, and it takes quite a mind and outside the box thinking to formulate what is now the most powerful duo on the 2022 grid. For a team that goes by the Formula of producing young talent, to reach outside their organization for temperance and wisdom to match the fiercest of drivers in young Max was a master stroke. Both in terms of interpersonal chemistry and domination, they have no equal, and Christian was the driving force behind that.
Mercedes Constructor domination since 2014 shall end in 2022, and that’s good for F1…it’s good for the sport. While the UK was celebrating what was a domination for THEM, (and controlling the F1 message and narrative through the English language media dominance) with what another country felt was a British sell-out team, F1 was losing fans and interest across the world (and in what should have been that teams’ country) and becoming less global and stagnating. The purchase of F1 by Liberty, while unpopular in Britain, was the best thing that ever happened to F1…it saved them (and the UK) from themselves. As a Canadian observing the sport for 15 years, the propaganda onslaught placed on non-british drivers was obvious and at times cruel….the British fans could also be cruel, crueler than the rest. Alonso says the same thing every year and he isn’t wrong, and I still remember when Seb won his 4th title and the two commentators treated it like a funeral across what you describe as regional but what is the English language international audience, while the paddock and stands cheered, and when Seb went to hug Christian and Newey, Brundle said in a very petty and surly voice, ‘that there is the most important person in F1 and it’s not one with the blonde hair’ (meaning Newey, with the implication being clear that Seb only won due to the car)…fast forward a few years and the same duo and the British media are downright fawning and bowing before a similar situation and I cannot imagine hearing Brundle say something similar when Lewis went to hug his engineers ‘and it’s not the one with the black hair’…imagine him saying something like that to anyone who was British. It’s disgusting how Seb, how Nico, how countless others are and were treated by a media who is the unapologetic dominant force behind the F1 message…and if they’re not careful, Liberty will take that away and make them a regional media, like back in the 1950s. Liberty is listening to drivers like Alonso and Vettel and Rosberg who speak of their mistreatment by both the British media and British fans….and they have the power to change that.
I see the same actors working hard now to do the same treatment to Max but I can see them trying hard to ‘act’ neutral and be more subtle because they are picking up on the change in the weather as well. It’s not hard to feel.

Over the years we’ve been blessed with some amazing athletes. What makes them great is not just abilities, it’s their character and attitudes. They are the GOAT’s because they love and respect their field.
Ayrton Senna, Muhammad Ali, Serena Williams, Mike Tyson, Babe Ruth, Biles etc, all GOAT’s
What’s rare (in my opinion) are legends who are sports managers or coaches. We’ve had, Cus, Ferguson, Jackson, Joyce etc. GOAT’s
You are witnessing a legend and GOAT who will be spoken about and referenced for many many years. Christian Horner has done so much for the F1, RedBull and especially Max who Christian often makes faux pas and refers to him as a friend or family member.
When I hear him talk about the racing gods I have a little chuckle because they were looking out for him years ago and introduced him to Marko.

@@ObviouslyKieran you’ll have to remind me of that race and the circumstances. Horner openly says he uses his inner Karen as a tactic (although didn’t use those words 😂). He wants to use everything possible to get things to go in his favour, or to unsettle the opponent. Can’t argue that it wasn’t effective because it effectively won Max the World Title. Were it not for the badgering of Masi during those very stressful safety car minutes he probably wouldn’t have got the unique interpretation of the rules. The point is though, you have to admire his determination to win… he’s built that team… he relentlessly pushes to win and had the skills to pursuade Adrian Newey to join the team.. without him I’m sure they wouldn’t have had so much success.
