Same in any industry, maybe people with certifications who only know how to replace parts would say differently, but when you know every part and you have an opinion on it being not so good, I just think it's probably good to take the warning.

You don't have to replace the entire Engine to fix the "Hemi Tick." If it was really that catastrophic, I doubt they would Sell the way they do. The V6 2nd generation Pentastars do it as well, and it's estimated that about 3-5% of them do that between the two, which is nothing when they make so many. Up until 2021 the Pentastar was in 14 of Stellantis vehicles, and is now into its 3rd generation, and the 3rd doesn't have the Tick issue. And just some are made in Mexico, but most are made at the newly renovated Jefferson Assembly Plant in Detroit.

They are also known for broken exhaust manifold bolts which will also cause a ticking noise, worse when cold. If you catch the lifter tick early enough you can just replace the lifters which will fix the concern. What happens is people continue to drive and drive them and let the noise get louder and louder. By then it has wiped out a cam lobe. But you don’t have to rebuild the engine, you can replace the camshaft and all the lifters. That is the repair that is made. Though not cheap it is much cheaper than a reman engine.

The 3.7L and 4.7L were more prone to that lifter tick or worn out hydraulic Lifters. They are very delicate and sensitive to oil pressure/type. My 1500 with a 3.7L ticks on start up, but it tends to go away after a few minutes. It did this when I purchased it 30K miles ago, still works. The 3.7L is not a great engine, but it works. The dodge 1500's biggest benefit is that they are much cheaper than toyota, chevy, and in some cases ford because they have a bad reputation and nobody else wants them :)
People always hate, they play politics and are very loyal to their chosen vehicle manufacturer. I specifically chose a dodge truck when I weighed the cost and features I was looking for, at the time, it was the best choice for me.

I bought a 2011 ram 1500 5.7 hemi and it was ticking with 195k miles, its now got 245k miles and still ticking but can't go over 3500 rpm without a misfire. I paid $6500 for it 5 years ago and mostly use it around town and never get to 3500 rpm. Only get misfires going up big hills on the highway. I didn't know about the cam issues when I bought it, but I found out a few weeks ago after replacing the plugs and coils. Not that I want to swap an engine but its still cheaper than getting another truck and will last a lot longer. I can feel the slop in the cam revving it in neutral from 1500-3000 rpm, but I don't feel it when driving.

The rest are not likely going to be an aissue in the case of an accident, but the door module could be, especially if it causes the side airbags to malfunction or not deploy in a crash.
At least this guy has a use for the truck (pulling a boat) unlike some people who don't tow or haul anything and would be better off with an SUV that gets 30 mpg versus 18 mpg (and even some SUVs can tow 3000-5000 lbs too, so you don't necessarily need a truck even if you have a smaller boat).

There was two causes of the tics prior to 2019, shearing of manifold bolts and lack of oil to the lifters. The cam problem is a symptom of the oil lifter problem! The manifold problem is an easy fix if caught early. The cam problem can be avoided if the lifers are replace before they damage the cam. I owned a 2011 had both problems. I now own a 2019 Ram 5.7 and according to Dodge the problems were fixed starting with the 2019! One other note about the tic, I've noticed that if too much oil is installed this can also cause a faint tic as the engine warms up. Once it's warmed up the tic goes away!

The trans started slipping intermittently starting at 58,000 miles though. It would slip from 1st to 2nd when it was cold. The dodge garage was useless in fixing it, so I just ran it that way. Lifter and cam failure does NOT require an engine rebuild. It only requires a new cam and lifters. Yes, the cost is a few thousand dollars, but that's far less than an engine rebuild. Another problem common to this engine is broken exhaust manifold bolts, which also results in a ticking sound due to an exhaust leak. That's an easy fix. There are many videos on CZcams showing how to remove the broken bolts. I have a 2015 with 110,000 miles and it still has the original brakes. It has been a great truck.

That "Hemi tick" on many of these goes away when it warms up. Many of them are actually a broken exhaust manifold stud, causing a leaking exhaust, which makes a little ticking sound. Same thing happens with some Chevy Silverados. If it is the roller lifter, simply bumping the oil viscosity up a notch often cures the tick. Also for the lifter problem, a complete engine rebuild isn't necessary. Just a new cam and lifters will fix it. Not easy, but a lot cheaper than a rebuild... Cheers!

I have a 2004 with 240,000. I have done major work to it but I do perform all the maintenance on a regular bases. I love my truck even though I have rebuilt the heads due to the metal rings on the lifters. I did replace the computer and I had the timing chain replaced because it stretched some how. I think I drove it hard for the first couple of years. I do have the tik but I have been fortunate I don't have any other issues with it. I don't like Toyotas nor Ford. I was thinking of Chevy but now forget it. SO I bought a motorcycle. Scotty I bought a 2016 ZX 14R SE.

Scotty you are not wrong. The company I work for has a fleet of dodge trucks and all the 1500s have major issues. Seems like a truck has to be sent to the mechanic at least once a month. Out of the four 1500s we have that’s a lot. On top of that my boss had one truck lemon lawed. I drive the 2500 with the 6.4l and have had no issues with it. A dodge employee once told me that the 1500 is a 100,000 mile vehicle and not to expect anything more.
