  • The struggle for justice in Palestine isn’t just a fight against the settler colonial Zionist project. It’s a struggle against US imperialism itself. To discuss this and more, Rania Khalek was joined by Bikrum Gill, a political scientist and author of the forthcoming book “The Political Ecology of Colonial Capitalism: Race, Nature, and Accumulation.”

However, we can gain solidarity to create a movement of system change. We need organizations that help us do that. We need realistic ideas. Library Socialism, perhaps. One Small Town Contributionism perhaps. Mutual Aid Networks perhaps. Anything else? Because we need whatever we can get to put it together towards the greater good.
Certainly if you are a US citizen, vote against genocide by voting for the greater good - Dr. Jill Stein and the Green Party who are on track to be on the ballot in all 50 US States.

I would vote for Jill Stein, but she doesn't stand a chance in the US election system. A political party in the US relies on the cash of lobbyists so they can bankroll their way to an election win. Jill Stein cannot compete with the cash the Dems or the Republicans have. One party is led by genocidal Joe and the other is Zionist Trump. Whoever wins, between Biden and Trump, things will remain the same. Very sad.

Fantastic! Bikrum Gill gets right to the crux of the matter and explains it really well: the west wanting/needing to maintain its hegemony. No amount of 'appeals' to western political decision makers (whomever they may be) will get them to overlook or side against their obvious tangible material interests in the Israel project - particularly at a time when Europe and Asia are naturally and organically remerging from the collapse/disintegration it suffered during colonial modernity, the dollar-based global economic is being exposed for the facade it always was, and the "cultural capital" and "global narrative" that the "Anglo-Saxon" colonial/imperialist power(s) had been building up since the days of the British East India Company is becoming ever more irrelevant.

*The people of Eurasia, including the Middle East (most of whom are semites), and Western Europe (most of whom are Christians) have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries.* Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common. Strategically ambiguous rulers make use of this, for own advantages. In the era of European Imperialism, first London dragging along her junior partner Paris, then after 1945 as European colonial powers' influence decreased, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC (the entire world was the playground during the Cold War).
Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in Eurasia, in order to "rule" over the dissent which is classical "divide and rule".
Today, their leaders are too weak to unite.
    Endless wars, constant dissent.
    Insert "levers" of lies, mistrust...
    Create favorites: favoritism...
    Point the finger, everywhere else...
    Divide and Rule.
    Oldest trick in the book...
    Who wields the POWER?
Who has had (in all historical cases in the ME/Levant) the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of being able to reach all the other little buck catchers (tools, and other Roman-era style instruments of POWER), but could not be reached itself, because of a geographical-, technological-, organisational-, military-, strategic-, political advantage at any given point of a historical timeline?
*In February 1948, George F. Kennan's Policy Planning Staff said: "[W]e have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. ... Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity."[end of]*
America's allies and foes in Europe are still being burnt to ensure this disparity continues.
*It is how divide and rule is implemented.*
Set up European and Eurasian nations against each other.
The "playbook" of Great Britain and the USA for more than 100 years. Read Mackinder (Pivot of History, 1904) and Brzinzki (Grand Chessboard, 1997).

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 *🌍 The conquest of Palestine is part of a broader regional project central to US imperialist control*
    - The denial of Palestinian sovereignty is not just about Palestine, but is core the exercise of US global power.
    - The maintenance of resistance forces in the region is pivotal for actual Palestinian sovereign reclamation.
00:27 *🇾🇪 The struggle for sovereignty extends beyond Palestine to the whole region*
    - For the people of Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iran, and others to exercise real sovereignty is a broader regional question.
    - The defeat of US imperialism in the region is key to enabling sovereignty for all peoples across the Middle East.
00:55 *🇵🇸 The Palestinian liberation struggle is fundamentally an anti-imperialist struggle*
    - The Palestinian struggle is not just against Zionist colonialism, but against US imperialism that provides material and political support to Zionism.
    - Without US imperialist backing, the Zionist project could not sustain itself.
02:05 *🇺🇸 US imperialism has crucial material and strategic interests in maintaining the Zionist project*
    - The US cannot allow Israel or Zionism to weaken, as it is a key proxy for projecting US power in the Middle East and globally.
    - The US dollar-oil relationship, which underpins US global hegemony, is dependent on maintaining control over the region through proxies like Israel.
05:38 *🌍 Isolating Palestine from the broader regional dynamics weakens Palestinian resistance*
    - Attempts to delink Palestinian liberation from challenges to US imperialism in the region risk returning Palestinians to a dependent state.
    - Maintaining the access of resistance forces in the region is crucial for real Palestinian sovereign reclamation, as well as sovereignty for peoples across the Middle East.
22:33 *💸 The US dollar-oil relationship is central to US imperialist power*
    - The US tied the global oil trade to the US dollar in the 1970s to maintain power over its allies and the Global South.
    - This gave the US immense financial power, allowing it to profit from global economic activity without being a productive player.
    - The dollar-oil relationship subjugated US allies like Europe and Japan under US hegemony.
26:16 *🇺🇸 The US aggressively backs Israel's genocide to maintain its regional dominance*
    - The Iran-Saudi détente and China's efforts to undermine the dollar's global dominance threaten the US's ability to control the region.
    - Strengthening the Israeli proxy is critical for the US to project power and maintain its global hegemony.
30:12 *🇵🇸 The liberation of Palestine is central to the struggle against US imperialism*
    - The elimination of the Zionist proxy would weaken the US's hold on the region, opening up developmental space for the Global South.
    - Anti-imperialists must emphasize the centrality of the Palestinian struggle in challenging US imperial power.
32:13 *🔫 War has become a resource for capital accumulation for the US*
    - When capitalism faces a profitability crisis, militarism and war-making become a means of renewing accumulation.
    - The Middle East has been a key site for the US to generate profits through the military-industrial complex and the destruction of societies.
39:34 *🇮🇷 Iran is not an imperialist or colonial power, but a challenge to US imperialism in the region*
    - Iran's relationship with other countries does not involve the denial of sovereignty or the transfer of surplus value, which defines imperialism and colonialism.
    - The Iranian Revolution was a direct challenge to US imperialism's domination of the region, which is why it is so threatening to the US.
    - Iran's actions in the region are informed by security imperatives in response to US imperialism, not a logic of domination and extraction.
44:12 *🇮🇷 Iran is not an imperialist power, but a vital force supporting regional resistance*
    - Iran has been a key part of the axis of resistance against US imperialism in the region, providing support and resources to groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
    - Iran's actions are driven by security imperatives in response to US imperialism, not a logic of domination and extraction.
45:34 *🕌 Islamist resistance groups like Hezbollah and Hamas are anti-imperialist forces*
    - Despite their religious character, these groups challenge the basis of imperialism and the denial of sovereignty to the people in the region.
    - Being anti-imperialist means contesting the power structures through which imperialism denies sovereignty, which is what these groups have done through building military force capacity.

    @amasulem Před 29 dny +1

I think he miminises the ideological a bit in his material analysis. I agree with it but without this dimension being also emphasised it feels incomplete. I mean the identification of U.S. policy with some sense of heroic self-perception and action in a Hollywoodised mentality ie. Western idea of bringing civilisation to land beyond the Appalachian mountains and away from savagery, like Greek civilisation saw others as barbarians, or Rome thought the Greek world itself was in need of themselves, what I see as a conceit of history, telling a story to yourself about why you are necessary to a greater purpose or re-ordering. There is also a sense that being on the side of a Jewish state creates an illusion of theological righteousness in righting the wrongs of the Nazi holocaust which we cannot forget meant at base the removal of the semitic influence on German life and society at heart, not industrial scale destruction. Antisemitism is essentially about such a removal and othering in some place not your territory. Pogroms were conducted in the Pale for this reason. The killings were incidental to the overarching aim of separateness and emigration. Pro-semitism is that area of mental landscape that affirms that Jewishness underlies and should be a part of European and U.S. civil life and political struggle.

  • @Ruby-K

Stopping dependence on oil or any other type of government controlled resources, especially food, water anďenergy is the key to breaking the cycle of imperial dominance. Personally, i believe permculture is the way forwarď as self sufficiency is what willalter the balance. When one does not depend on the state to provide you with that which you need to live, you become free . Changing the $-oil relationship with arabia is what will start an efective change, therefore, if a break from the usa can occur anďthe regime in S. Arabia can look to multilateral structures and agreements wih other nations that wilĺend usa imperialism. There are factors at play too such as change from within, e.g. the civilian and student protests and a shift in perception from inside the imperial core. They are the future an no longer want imperialism as their raison d'etre. It is backward and usa wilĺcontinue to decline if it carries on with such an attitude to its foreign policy. Other nations are rising and that has signifiçantly changed the geo- political and geo-econmic landscape. It provides the foundation for fundamental reorganisation of power and freedom from the imperial west.

Palestinian success represents a failure of settler colonialism. The failure of settler colonialism to maintain control in South Afrika (although the colonizers maintain control of all non-political aspects) has caused fear of a global uprising against Eurocentric colonialism and imperialism. A defeat in occupied Palestine would be a major disruption for the colonial /imperialist forces in North East Afrika (misnomered “the Middle East”, “West Asia” and “Asia Minor”). The spread of a united anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist globally is a powerful force that coincides with the decline of colonial and imperialist influence / control.

Bikrum Gill works in a US University. His middle name suggests that his family belongs to the Brahmin caste. India/s caste system has subjugated 2/3 of the population of India for centuries. This, of course, does not mean that his ideas are incorrect. It does mean that with a moment of self-reflection, he should stop talking about US Imperialism as part of our national character. Is that part of his character? Obviously not. Is he part of a democracy? Yes, we are still a democracy. His actions show that he is trying to change the viewpoint of voters in this country. Toning down the rhetoric could go a long way to making his ideas easier to gain traction in America and in other democracies (since it is in democracies where the citizens can change the direction of a nation by voting.)
