    Hi guys. I order this set from Frank Pozsgai. He called right back with questions about the order to insure I got the correct parts. They were sent priority mail well packaged and got here in 2 days! I installed them on my Wen scroll and could not be happier. Blade changes and hole changes are a breeze. 3 thumbs up!

    Gidday mate , I bought Frank Pozsgai's EZ blade change system for my cheap Ryobi scroll saw. Got to admit , best thing I could have done , cost about $70 Australian delivered . Scroll saw cost $125 , so for under $200 I have a great little scroll saw that just keeps going , and saves heaps of time changing blades. Didn't know about it until I saw this video , great job thanks .

    I bought that harbor freight scroll saw and next day took it back. They asked what was wrong with it, told them that I didn't have 8 arms like an octopus to change blades.

    I got it today..ordered 4 days ago, but it works great. It took less time to install than it took to watch the video. The bottom part is a bit tricky, but I didn't remove the table so that might have been the issue with me..well that and sorting through my gazillion Allen wrenches for the right size. I swapped out the bottom screw last year sometime trying to fix the original setup which was less than useless. Best part now is NO BLADE WANDER! I'm impressed.

    I am using this conversion kit. There's a learning curve but then again I'm a beginner scroller. Here's my question - How far down (or up) should the blade be inserted into the blade holders? I wasn't sure if I should barely have the blade in or give it a good shove into the holder or...somewhere in between. Thank you for the video. For those who are confused about the block that is not shown much on this video - it simply holds the lower blade holder as you tighten the blade into that holder. Attach it anywhere you like that's close to your scroll saw. I was able to attach mine to my scroll saw but it doesn't have to be on your saw at all. Just somewhere close by that is convenient. Think of that block as a tightly gripped hand that stabilizes the lower blade holder as you place the blade inside and tighten. I don't know why that was so confusing to me but once I understood the concept it was such a relief. Thank you for this video. I broke 7 blades on my first project ever. Lol. Having to learn about tension, force by which I push the wood through the blade as well as getting used to the wood I was using.This is a great conversion kit and the only way to go on older model scroll saws like mine (Tradesman) that only use pin end blades. I can now use spiral blades thanks to this kit.

  • @retirementisfine2369

    The part that's off camera is a fixture for attaching the bottom part of the blade to the blade holder. It comes with the adapter kit. I agree that there's not much metal to attach it to the Harbor Freight scroll saw table. I mounted mine to wood and drilled a hole to store the allen wrench used to tighten the blade holder.

  • @rhilton1881

    Hi! Thanks for your video, which was somewhat helpful. (I'll explain this comment later.)
    I recently purchased a Harbor Freight saw, like the one in your video because it was on sale and I needed a tool now to cut out a lattice in some 1/16" wood. The saw performed well, but I did take note of the problem you mentioned in your video, of the saw blade slipping out when moving to another inboard cut. It's very annoying and after watching your video, I ordered the Pozsgaidesigns kit and "upgraded" my saw. The kit was of good quality and I was able to install it. Because the only blades I had were the pin blades, I installed the kit to accommodate those kinds of blades . However, it looks like unless I use pinless blades, it doesn't clamp to the bottom of the blade. Or did I miss something? The instructions that came with the kit were somewhat general and vague.
    Your video gave me some good tips, but I still wonder about how the parts of the kit will accommodate the pinless blades.
    Another question that I have is about the big black block. What is the purpose of it? Your video was inadequate explaining it, and while you were talking about it, you didn't move the camera to show what you were talking about! And, I didn't see it appearing at the end of the video.
    Anyway, thanks again for making the video, and I'm sorry to be critical. I know that it's difficult to make these things, so I appreciate the effort. I purchased some pinless blades and am going to see if I can figure out how to use them with this saw.

    • @BackyardWoodworking
      @BackyardWoodworking  Před 9 lety

      Hey thanks for watching and commenting. Yes the pin less blades are the way to go.. You don't have to drill a 1/4" hole to get the blade in your project. If your doing large work then the pin less blades will work fine. Check out the scrollsaw workshop on you tube. or just google it.

    • @rhilton1881
      @rhilton1881 Před 9 lety

      Backyard Woodworking What is the purpose of the big block? I didn't understand what it's used for, and is it necessary for using pinless blades?

    • @rhilton1881
      @rhilton1881 Před 9 lety

      Roland, I took another look at my saw and figured out how to install the entire kit, converting it to pin-less. Well, that cured one problem, being able to quickly move the blade into a new location, but created another problem. Now the problem is that the lower blade clamp needs to be super tight, or else the tightening process will pull it out. I'm going to try it for a while and see if I can tolerate this new problem, but I may convert it back to the pinned blade mode. The pinned blades allow getting proper tightness without the risk of the clamp mechanism letting go.
      Also, I figured out what the purpose of the big black block is! It allows you to put the blade block in the slot so that the Allen clamp screw can be tightened. Yeah, it's a problem on this saw. Their mounting recommendation (and yours) doesn't make too much sense. The saw platform is too flimsy to fasten the block to it, IMO. And... if I convert back to pinned blades, it will no longer be needed.
      BTW, I'm using Olsen saw blades for the pin-less conversion.

    • @BackyardWoodworking
      @BackyardWoodworking  Před 9 lety

      Rick Hilton I mounted the block to the side of my saw near the power cord. Just take off the plastic cover so you don't hit any wires and predrill it. Pin blades are fine for lager work,but for fine work you have to drill to big a hole for the blades to fit through like on the heart box I made. Well good luck with your saw and thanks for watching.
      Roland

    • @rhilton1881
      @rhilton1881 Před 9 lety

      Backyard Woodworking Yeah, I think that would work. Alternatively, I think you could drill a couple of holes through the casting on the side without causing a problem, and you could mount the block there. This little scroll saw is "okay" for a starter saw, but I think if I were to do some major work, I would need something that's better engineered. There are a a couple of things I don't like: The adjustable foot is aggravating. I don't like the imprecise way it fastens. It's too loose and the foot itself is "tippy." I don't see a good way of addressing and fixing this problem. It's just a poor design. And, I don't like the the way the little air nozzle works, either. There is not enough adjustment to direct the air to blow away the shavings. But, for the money, it's hard to beat this saw. Despite its imperfections, it's handy for most minor cutting chores.
      Anyway, thanks for your video and comments.
