  • It would be hard to pick the best Brussels attraction - is The Atomium the best thing to do? Today we travel out to The Atomium to see the most unique structure in Belgium!...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop - geni.us/9VHNx
The Atomium is an icon of Brussels and Belgium, probably the most unique building we've ever been in! It's also considered one of the top things to do in Brussels and by some as the best attraction in Brussels. After visiting we feel like thats with good reason, the museum elements were interesting and the view was stunning.
The Atomium was constructed for the first post-war universal world exhibition and the spheres represent an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Here's the Brussels card we used to get the discount at the Atomium and to ride the hop on hop off buses around town: visit.brussels...
So is the Atomium the best thing to do in Brussels? That all depends, we had messages from you guys on Instagram claiming it was, but we can't help but feel like the city of Brussels has so much charm, amazing food and laneways to get lost in that the top thing to do really must be just walking and getting lost.
There's more info on the Visit Brussels site about the Atomium here - visit.brussels...

Gotta be the most unique building you've ever seen, surely? It’s just cray 😍 Seriously though, this city just keeps getting better! Here's the playlist of all our videos from Brussels: bit.ly/2MzlQIU

Enjoying the videos guys. Been following you for a year or so. Just something to point out. Don't know if it's been mentioned before but when i have CZcams quality set to auto rather than going straight to 1080p it always sets itself as 480p which i find strange as all my other subs automatically go on 1080 or 4K. Not a major deal but thought I'd just point it out 😊

@@accychap5533 That's so strange - we have no idea why that would be happening at all. Never heard anything like that before! Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I'm a belgian and I must say: you've actually succeeded in getting me enthused about our capital again ;-). It was very charming to see Brussels through the eyes of someone who hadn't seen it before. You've managed to capture the typical "ethos" of the city really well in these videos. Plus: I absolutely love they way you interact with each other, your lighthearted and honest comments on what you're seeing and hearing, your sense of humor, the little pieces of information you slip in, ... In short: well-done! It felt like I was there with you.
By the way: I actually live very close to Brugge / Bruges, the city where my mom's family lives, so kind of my second home. If you ever return to Belgium, I'll be glad to see your impressions on this little gem of ours :-) .
    Cheers!
P.S.1: you've got yourselves a new subscriber. Will be checking out more of your videos.
P.S.2: the "stoofvlees" is not typically eaten with bread rolls aside (that usually goes with soup as a first course) ;-). It should only be the fries with mayonaise + a salad. Though in the traditional recipe for stoofvlees, there's a slice of bread with mustard on it "molten" into the gravy to give it extra thickness and "spice". Yum!

So good to see the Atomium looking so well. I visited it in the 80s when I cycled to Brussels from London and it was so run down. Great that it has been restored to it's original self and it is really is quite a structure and strangely not a tourist trap. Thanks for this vlog!

@@DanegerAndStacey It was built for the 1958 World Fair and only meant to last for the duration of that fair, about 6 months. Then at one point it turned from a temporary attraction into a symbol for Brussels and Belgium. Fortunately Belgian construction is solid so 63 years later it's still there.

The meat you ate is called 'stoofvlees' or stewed meat. It is beef from a cow, slowly cooked with dark beer (a dark trappist like the Grimbergen you had as a drink but the brown variant), mustard and spices. It is great with mayonaise and fries. You can often get the juice (or gravy) of 'stoofvlees' as a 'sauce' when ordering fries. The combo mayo-stoofvlees is terrific.
As a side note: fries are like soda in the US. You can often ask for refills w/o paying more.
Mini-Europe isn't that great. I'm surprised it still existed at that time. I think it is closed down now.

The Atomium is way more than just a monument for "some expo in the 50s", like you said. The World Expo 58 was a major event, not only for Belgium but for the world, as it was the very first world expo since WWII. It represented a new world reunited. By the way, next to representing an atom magnified 165 billion times, the nine spheres actually represented the nine provinces Belgium counted at that time (there are 10 now). Glad you got to have a drink on the top. Isn't it the coolest thing?

Hello there, I discovered your channel through the Endless Adventure and am hooked on your videos now .
Great to see you enjoyed my city of Brussels!
That beef stew you ate has the peculiarity that the gravy in which it s cooked is made partially of boiled beer and to thicken it, it s gingerbread that desintegrates with the slow cooking.
But you have to eat it at a grandma's place or a reknown place for it, for the beef to be like pure melting butter in your mouth!

Atomium is the atom FE or iron. Manneken Pis is the little dude and was the son of the duke of Flanders defending his lands against the French. It was meant to inspire the troops. When the french were about to break through the boy started pissing in the eyes of the french. One of them was the commander. There is a painting for this myth. The bomb/gunpowder story is linked to the female version. also completely working
