    You are the master, you have a plan to rebuild the wasteland into a peaceful place by creating the super mutants.
    As you are sitting there, planning, a man in purple robes starts to run up the hallway. Seeing as how he got past your super mutant guards, you know this man must be dangerous. Is he a friend, or is he a foe? He appears to be a primal human, he would make a great ally.
    As you prepare to ask him your question, you begin to wonder if he will join and serve you as a super mutant, or if he will serve as target practice for you and your super mutants.
    The man has now strode up to you, you begin to ask your question. Join? Die?
    You can see the man sitting there, presumably thinking over his choices in great detail.

    FEV is meant to make superhumans, both physically and intellectually. This is why I don't understand why Bethesda made all Super Mutants dumb in their games. It's like they based them all off of Harry when he was like the ONLY dumb Super Mutant in the original games.

    • @vermyntonic7297
      @vermyntonic7297 Před 8 lety +447

      Not all of them are dumb, Marcus and all the nightkin are quite intelligent. Also, the process with the FEV didn't always go to plan, which is why there are some dumb ones in the first couple games. As for 3 and New Vegas...I THINK it's because they weren't made by the Master, they were mutated by the imperfected radiation in the wasteland :/

      @TheDanteEX Před 8 lety +62

      Arvin Kejiou Ah, that's interesting. As nice as it is that there's an in-universe explanation, I can't help but feel that was an "after-the-fact" explanation to justify the choices and changes to the series' lore. I guess complaining is useless since Bethesda owns the IP and can do whatever they want with it.

    • @Smenchevieve
      @Smenchevieve Před 8 lety +168

      A lot of the super mutants in fallout 1 were dumb too. That's because the FEV was initially tailored for unaltered human DNA. The only issue was that human DNA at the time of the game was very altered by radiation. So the FEV would screw up and make the mutant stupid (or they would die a painful horrible death as the Lieutenant explained). That's why they were looking for vaults because they were full of "prime normals" which were humans that hadn't been exposed to all that much radiation. The mutants are mostly stupid in later games because 1. The Master didn't make all of them some were made through less controlled means, and 2. because after the fact most of the intelligent ones made were either killed by the Vault Dweller or died in the explosions of The Master's bases and the hordes that survived were stupid and therefore not apart of the Master's elite guard such as the Nightkin.

    • @cadrian4806
      @cadrian4806 Před 8 lety +39

      Actually the mutants from fallout 3 are also mutated by the FEV, not by radiation of the wastes, they established a base in vault 87 that was experimeting with FEV as its assignment from vault-tec and i guess they just found ashitton of FEV that they can use, they capture alot of wastelanders too, the reason they are dumb is either the FEV dumping is less efficient or its a different strain of it

      My guess is that you haven't even played the 2 original games.
      Fallout 3 is simply a shooter where you choose where to go, and sometimes you can choose between bad guy decision and good guy decision, Fallout 1 and 2 don't really have any "good or bad" the choices and your manner of solving conflicts actually reflects on an ideology, they actually let you make meaningful decisions.
      There's a video on youtube called "This is why Fallout 3 is Garbage", I suggest you give it a look over, that guy sums it up perfectly.
      Sure, Fallout 3 can be a fun game, but it doesn't appeal to people in the same way as the first two games, which appeal to a player's intellect and wit, noticing small things, and making their own real choices, and yes, one could argue that there are people who didn't give Fallout 1 and 2 a try because of "old graphics, it's slow" etc. just can't appreciate the games, just like how a large amount of people doesn't understand the appeal of a good book.

      Because Bethesda has capitalized on the aspects of the first few Fallout games with the whole “technologically advanced goofy 1950s America” thing except that’s all they’ve capitalized on and they’ve turned the goofy knob up to 100. They think the basis for a good Fallout game is to have a radio station with top of the pop 50s classics and a fetch quest plotline. Every new piece of Fallout media that Bethesda produces is pure nostalgiabait (for Fallout 3 of course). They even turned Vault Boy into a fucking marketing product. The closest they’ve ever gotten to the old Fallouts is some poorly done Lovecraft references. Bethesda needs to just stick with Elder Scrolls and give the Fallout rights to someone who actually gives a damn. It’ll never happen though. They need those monies

They did a Mass Effect (not always a bad thing) and made 3 and 4 about 'big choices' that just give you the illusion of choice. Like sure you can decide what faction does what more but to compensate they've filled the game with shitty boring characters and endings that are all copies of each other. At least in 1 and 2 you might not seem to have as much choice but at least the choices you make actually have a real effect

    I don't understand all the fallout 3 hate. It fits in to the fallout canonicity quite well. While it's story line isn't the greatest, it gives a greater immersion into a nuclear wasteland that an isometric view never will. Also, it was HUGE; having a lot of cool guns side quests and companions. As soon as you left the vault, you could do anything you wanted, do anything you wanted to do.

    • @Duke0Forever
      @Duke0Forever Před 10 lety +18

      Brick Tamlandd why simply not expand the lore to a place where rebuilding was not quite possible. A settlement here and there with few caravans, and survival being more important.
      Indeed, Fallout 3 has weaker plot, especially with the forced choices with DLCs. I'd rather help Enclave, but I can't. Well fuck it.
      Also, I like East Coast BoS. They remind me of BoS in Fallout 1, before they turned to scared zealots from Fallout 2 and New Vegas. You know, when you could join the Brotherhood without being born into it, and when they extensively traded with Hub? That kind of BoS is what I like.
      Super Mutants? Good idea, an homage if you ask me, for incorporating them into F3. Only problem is that they haven't done much regarding the story of them. Do they have a leader like Master or Lieutenant? Who ordered them to search for people in Washington D.C. if they kick out smart mutants? That wasn't explored...
      Enclave? Survived they have. Their destruction during Fallout 2 wasn't total, for New Vegas canonically states that many remnants went East only after Navarro was lost to NCR and BoS. Why I mention New Vegas? It's made by Obsidian, successor to Black Isle Studios. It's them who these Fallout 3 hating zealots hold so dear for lore. They refuse to accept Bethesda's lore. Well suck on it zealots.
      Bethesda has bought the rights for three games. They wanted to appeal gamers and fans while making Fallout 3. They made one of the best transitions from isometric view to 3D environment. Indeed, FPS mechanics were boring, but New Vegas worked on them, and made gameplay much smoother and better. Indeed the plot wasn't that great, while it certainly had epic moments (destruction of Raven Rock while Vertibirds escape above you).
      Hell, the soundtrack was fitting, and the atmosphere was just awesome. In truest sense of the word, from the moment you exit the Vault to the end. Tranquility Lane was also good, don't you think? The Pitt DLC was on a right track with possible choices between Raiders and Slaves.
      All in all, Fallout 3 has some problems, but it sure didn't bother me when I spent 1000 hours on it.
