The most beautiful baby blanket is the one crocheted by Grandmommy!! Lol. I crochet 2 baby blankets for each grandchild. 1 for the baby crib and 1 for them to snuggle with or drag around. I always ask my daughters to meet with me so they may pick out the color(s) they want. These blankets are so cute!

I've well established by now that I don't use patterns, but I do love the idea of making blankets (if not so much the execution.) Going on two years ago now, I made a queen sized blanket for a friend of mine for his birthday (because he's one of those who doesn't collect anything, so it's impossible to buy him stuff.) Anyway, he does photography, so I based this blanket on a photo he took of a church silhouetted against this gorgeous night sky with stars and even a planet visible amidst purple-ish clouds.
Well, I wanted a unique stitch for the clouds, so I looked up blanket stitches here on CZcams and found out about the wavy seashell stitch. That. Stitch. Is. AMAZING. And it made my interpretation of the clouds look so cool.
If I was going to do a blanket ever again, I'd do one just using the wavy seashell stitch, because once you know how to do it, it works up well, and the final product is gorgeous.

I to love the grannies doing one with 2 round solid black in between just started love your afghans from Newfoundland Canada yes i agree love join as you go that is what i like just a lap afghans i only have worsted weight wool these are warmer then the quilts i sew as well

I've always just made the blankets by eye - estimating the size, basically, and ending up with ones pretty much the same sizes as the figures you had. I did decide to try mitre squares for the blanket of a friend of mine. I was planning on making it about 40 inches square (I like making square ones as they can later be used for the child to sit on when playing, etc.) but my friend's wife insisted that it needed to be bigger, so I made it to fit on a queen size bed! Anyway, it looked amazing and I made sure to remind my friend to tell her wife that the blanket is for the baby. "For the baby!!" But baby blankets are a lot of fun to make.

I am just finishing up this Granny Goes Large blanket. I am in love with this super easy pattern! I have to tell you, I just love your style and I come back to this particular video again and again for color inspiration. Would you mind sharing your favorite technique for laundering your blankets?
Thank you so very much! I typically just wash them in cold water on a gentle cycle and then lay them flat to dry. I really try not to wash them very often. 💚

Hey NC here also! Earl, NC population 257! No stop lights. We do have a post office, gas station/grill and Dollar General but lol DG csnt keep employees so there's often a sign up saying "Closed due to staffing shortage"! 🤣
I wish I wasn't scared to attempt another granny. The sewing together I was not great yrs ago and the blanket came apart!
I've never heard of Earl before! Will have to look it up on a map! You should check out the join as you go method for granny squares. You don't have to sew them together!! 💙🧶💙🧶
'Soft' is key word for baby blankets because some babies will rub their blanket across their face as they fall to sleep. If yarn isn't soft, baby gets a yarn burn. The only baby blanket that some day care centers allow are granny square blankets and by that I mean 1 big granny square. 22 to 24 rows using an F or G hook. I'm speaking from my families experience. The big granny square blanket allows young babies air to breathe and even then everyone must be diligent-watch your babies. Always ask your baby's pediatrician for advice.

Hi I love your ruffled border in Minute 5:23 on the video. I've watched this several times and I finally bought the border book by Edie Eckman. Can you tell me what border this is because I don't see anything that looks like your beautiful border in the book. I'm a beginner but I'm needing a border for my fist granny square baby blanket. Also, I bought the Stylecraft Simply DK yarn. My only regret is that it's not worsted and that I can't see it in person before buying. Thanks.

What is the ´join as you go method’? I love making blankets but I hate joining all those tiny squares at the end! I, too, love Lucy from Attic 24. And I love Stylecraft yarn after ordering a kit from Janie Crow (Sunshine and Showers), which I loved making!!

I love them all! I want to make them all! Lol Thank you for showing them ~ putting different borders on them makes such a difference. You mentioned borders with bobbles and then one with poms. Are those the same? Thx
The bobbles are more "attached" and then the pom pom border is more separated from each other. Not sure how to explain that! I hope that makes a little sense! 💕
