      Mendoza ended up being my favorite. The best kills (that grape crusher is brutal) , the best setting, the best story, very replayable , and interesting targets. You can work with Diana to take out those targets too. Theres the perfect level of security without it being too held down. To me, it’s a combination of all the best elements from the maps before it.

    For me, Mendoza hits the spot. It’s calm, it feels like the ”farewell” where you can chill and have fun. The mission stories fun and the style of the map allows for fun kills. I think the targets are not the best, but one killing the other is almost better than killing one with the other. Just a great overall map for a chill casual playthrough.

    I was shocked that Berlin was your number 1 map, but it makes alot of sense. I think it's just that map that came out of nowhere in Hitman 3, but somehow left a bigger mark on most players than the maps that we thought would be better based on trailers.

    Really interesting to see your rankings and I agree with most of your points. Berlin is also my favourite map, not only as a versatile , well designed Hitman map with an unorthodox twist, but also as a story mission- it simply oozes atmosphere from the cold open to the dramatic finish. The fact that the story elements, gameplay and map design meld together seamlessly is probably what makes it so memorable.
    Points I would make:
    -I would have ranked Dartmoor higher (probably a bit of personal bias since I actually live there!). I agree that it's a relatively uninventive map with just a simple "fortress", but much like Berlin it's one with fantastic atmosphere. The fortress itself is accessible through a multitude of routes, and the Private Investigator opportunity is probably one of the best and most fleshed out in the entire series, seeing as it can be manipulated so play out in so many different ways.
    -I agree with your feelings about Carpathian Mountains. I think it makes a fantastic finale and story mission (I particularly liked that it forces you to be careful with item use), but as a Hitman map it just has far too little replayability. It feels like a level from a different game in many respects.
    -Maybe it's fatigue from having played it so much, but I would have ranked Paris lower. I can't quite put my finger on why; it's not a bad level by any stretch, I just feel that as a level designed far earlier in the game's cycle, other maps (such as Dubai, Miami and Mendoza) have done similar "public event" style scenarios with more interesting twists and better overall level design.
    -I agree that Columbia, Marrakesh and Mumbai suffer from similar issues. Although there are some opportunities to move targets around (particularly in Mumbai) all three are incredibly restrictive when it comes to SASO. Having targets in separate fortresses with a whole load of nothing in-between makes for a believable environment, but not necessarily a fun map.

    • @JJsProductionsTwitch
      @JJsProductionsTwitch  Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve said it recently that perhaps Dartmoor was too hastily placed that low. I’m not sure it would go that much higher but on reflection I think I was more mad at the time how simple a map it is when I wanted more 🤷‍♂️
      I feel Paris earned its spot as well down to it being a classic. Say you want to get someone who has a passing interest in playing Hitman to give the game a shot, Paris is a great level to do that. Not so punishing that new players will bash controllers but still rewarding when you work things out 🙂

    @Equinox6683 Před 3 lety +49

    This is my list. It's going to be based mostly around the main missions though. This is my opinion
    20-Carpathian mountains. - As you said it was very linear and doesn't compare to the rest of the trilogy. I see it as more of a conclusion to the trilogy rather than an actual mission. I think it's also too long especially for SA/SO.
    19-Hawkes Bay. - Its like Romania but with actual replayability though not a lot of it. The location suffers from the long walk to the beach and a lack of multiple exits. Maybe its unfair considering its bascially a tutorial mission. The target is also really plain and boring. I do wish the guards and target would automatically spawn in at the start of the mission for future playthroughs to spice it up and keep it interesting.
    18-Bangkok. - Where to begin with this one. Ken in my opinion is the worst target in the whole game, he has a poor routine and no good way of killing him SA/SO. Jordan has some fun and unique kills but suffers from the same problem but not nearly as bad of getting him isolated SA/SO. The map itself has too many enforcers for such a tight and close-quartered map. There is also limited ways for traversing the map in your suit, there too many keycard doors, too many cameras, terrible security room location, lack of exits, stupid challenges, etc.
    17-Santa Fortuna. - The map is too big, traversing is annoying and difficult with the lack of paths and shortcuts suit only. The map also has 3 fortresses which makes the mission less enjoyable having to sneak in, kill your target, sneak out 3 times. The mission stories are great and there are a variety of kills and areas on the map so it doesn't feel bland. I want to like it but again the size and too many targets in their own fortresses really kills the flow of the mission for me. Edit: In hitman 3 bullet distractions are broken in the mansion area so speedrunning this mission is extra difficult.
    16-Colorado. - For starters i wish it had Berlin styled targets of having to pick which target to kill. 4 targets is too much for such a small map. The map is hostile from the start which isn't a big problem but it does make it less enjoyable overall. The map is too open, has a poor layout and is too flat. There are some really annoying guards such as the one on the top floor of the house that roams around. The 3d printer stuff was annoying but im glad they changed that now so you can exit at multiple places which does help with replayability. Hitman 3's horrible AI also lets this map down the most as everyone apart from the hackers are guards so there are many times where you'll get hunted instead of suspicious. Overall not a bad map but has a lack of replay value. However it is extremely rewarding when you complete it SA/SO and speedrunning this mission is difficult but is also open with multiple different ways to speedrun.
    15-Whittleton Creek. - For me it was the map i was most hyped for just behind Miami leading up to hitman 2's release but it was the most disappointing. For starters most of the houses are blocked off meaning you can't go in them so there is less creativity in regards to escalations/contracts. The houses that have interiors are bland and have the same layout so it become unoriginal. The targets are fine nothing outstanding but nothing bad though i do like Janus. I just wish maybe instead of having guards the target could be surrounded by family and friends making it a challenge and have police roam the outside. and possibly having the enemy reinforcements system from absolution come back. I do also wish there was more emphasis on using items we use daily such as a shower or washing machines or blender or pillow or lawn mower to kill the targets. The clues are also really annoying.
    14-Marrakesh. - The first map to utilise having multiple fortresses which as stated before is not a good thing. Claus is a good target and Reza is a decent one too but again having to infiltrate 2 separate places is not fun. The underground garage is one of the most annoying area on any hitman map as its really the only way of getting inside the consulate suit only without having to do a bunch of distractions. I also do wish they implemented the riot so they would actually do something. The school is also quite bland but yeah its just a meh map in my opinion
    13-Haven Island. - I could never really get into this one. It's not bad but its basically Bangkok but better. SA/SO is not great though imo. The targets range from meh to decent. There are plenty of annoying guard locations. And i'm not a fan of the different paths across the water. The guard vision cones are also really inconsistent and bad but the soundtrack is great.
    Edit: In Hitman 3 this map is completely broken and speedrunning this mission is a complete joke
    12-Dartmoor. - The atmosphere is really good. The mission stories are great. The layout is great. But it was build around the murder mystery and once you see every outcome it just becomes bland and repetitive. The secondary object (case file) was also easy to get but annoying. That is pretty much it.
    Edit: The dartmoor garden show is a nice addition and while it isn't amazing it does make the map more replayable even if the actually bonus mission is mediocre.
    11-Dubai. - The map i never really liked until i recently played the escalations on the map and now i like it. The main mission is meh. I just wish they brought back elevators from the old games. I also think the aesthetic is bland. But the map has a good layout and is fun for escalations/contracts. I also do wish they implemented more climbing specifically on the outside of the building to have that sense of height and scale that the map was marketed for
    Now this is where it gets hard
    10-Mendoza. - Its a great farewell to the trilogy. Agree with what you said about the mansion. Don Yates is a meh target and Tamara is fine. The mission stories are great too. There is also a lack of an easy suit only exit on the map but it is a solid map.
    9-Isle of Sgail. - Terrible targets, bad npc routine, bad challenges but a great atmosphere, great layout and is gorgeous to look at. It also has one of my favourite kills with 47 in the coffin and kills zoe with ave maria in the background. It also has a great story.
    8-New York. - Great layout, good mission stories. but i do wish the vault had another mission story where you use a digger in the parking lot to dig through into the vault or have the 2 robbers in the toilet actually rob the bank. I do also wish Athena would leave the top floor more. But apart from that the mission is great with a strong layout.
    7-Hokkaido. - The K A I system is annoying but it never became too much of a problem for me, i do wish that Soders would wake up and wander around like how sierra gets out of the car in Miami. Yuki is a decent target nothing too special and the patient zero mission is very interesting especially after what has happened in the real world. Contracts is also very fun and i like the cameo of Agent smith.
    6-Mumbai. - I love this mission but it does have a few flaws such as having multiple fortresses but unlike Columbia you can manipulate the targets so they would meet eg: vanya and dawood or dawood and the maelstrom or vanya and the maelstrom. The kashmirian is also a great addition. I like the maelstrom and having to identify him but i don't like his enforcers randomly in the street. Vanya is the worse target on the map but she isn't bad. The map also has a great story and atmosphere.
    5-Paris. - A brilliant layout with good target routines though they do lack with interesting kills. The best map to start the trilogy on. Idk what to say its just great not a single bad point about it.
    4-Berlin.- Once a map i didn't like to a map that i love. For starters i like speedrunning and this map without a doubt is the best to speedrun. The target system is just brilliant. The atmosphere is superb. The layout is also great, finding new pipes or ledges is so fun for me as i like exploring. And just the vibe is so great.
    3--Miami. - Brilliant targets, Great atmosphere, Great mission stories. My only problem is that its a little too easy getting SA/SO but other than that its just a superb hitman mission and is definitely one of the best missions in the whole franchise and gaming as a whole.
    Edit: Traversing the map is a complete pain as there are far too many locked doors and doors with keycard lock, there is also the problem of going from the marina side to the race side as there is few too little paths across with the 2 bridges and the 3 tunnels so again traversing the map is pretty painful especially on contracts mode.
    2-Chongqing.- The story and atmosphere is amazing, the block and ica facility are fun to navigate and sneak through. Contracts and escalations make this map amazing especially with some fun new features and items. The 2 7DS escalations are really good. The mission is also really fun to speedrun and there is a good variety in exits.
    1-Sapienza.- The flexibility of the map is great. The mission stories are great, The targets are great, the mansion is great, the bonus missions are great. I love the virus though i do wish it became optional. Every area has a purpose and every area has a lot of ways to infiltrate. I do wish there was a mission story that caused either Silvio to go to the church or a priest to go to the mansion. But it's just perfect to me and the amount of ways to kill the targets SA/SO is insane and i never thought there was a route that was impossible.

    There are also several routes and posibilites for SASO. I'm not particularly good at SASO and I was able to get all the way into Athena's private mirror glass room without a disguise in master difficulty. i'm glad to see chongqing and berlin so high ! i feel like not too many people liked berlin and i'm happy to see another person who considers it their top one :] it would be very difficult for me to rank all maps, but i will just say that i don't think dartmoor should've been that low, or mumbai that high . well, it's not /too/ high, per se, i just feel like it's a very big and agitating map, and hard to get around .
    it's the exact opposite reason of why i like dartmoor: simple, straight-forward, and you can learn your way around pretty well . the new garden show (i am aware this video was made before it) just added onto its beauty and opportunities, not to mention i was thrilled to see re-occuring characters . i don't know if i would rank it in my, let's say, top 5, but it is still a pretty good map .
    i was kind of surprised to see colorado as 16th ? well, chosen over dartmoor and bangkok, anyways . both colorado and bangkok feel crowded and have limited opportunities, but if i had to rank them i would definetely but bangkok one place higher than colorado .
    i would've never ranked hokkaido and paris that high . while they're not the easiest nor hardest, for me they just don't stick out, except for hokkaido having that pesky KAI robot . otherwise it would rank so much higher . as for paris, i will admit it was never my favorite, and probably never will be . i don't really care about it that much, although the attic part has to be one of my favorite places in the hitman 2016 game . it feels challenging at times, and i like that .
    i agree with most of these ! i like your opinions :] berlin especially lol . it feels like a very good map just to do anything . the lust dlc proved that, it was absolutely incredible .
    good video !!

      Dartmoor was likely a bit reactionary as (a bit like I say in the video) when I first played it my gut reaction was ‘underwhelming’ just because of it’s simplicity. I feel like if a map can be SASO’d on the first try (or at least the actual kill can be worked out) then there is something fundamentally wrong with it. I will agree though that the Garden Show was a big plus as far as selling some of the maps’ features that had not really been sold well in the vanilla playthrough, I just would’ve liked if it hadn’t been in escalation format again.
      Berlin was definitely a lot of fun, I actually enjoyed the Kill Everyone playthrough I did recently down to it being a small map in a lot of ways (really it’s just a nightclub and a warehouse) but vast in others (the number of levels and smaller areas is very impressive) that finding everyone was a fun challenge. When I’ve played it for SA or SASO ranks though it has been fun just down to the plethora of accident kills you can create, it’s almost like the map was designed to be creative IMO ☺️

    Looking at the briefing video for the first time, I thought the target was going to roam around the map before laying on his operation table and not move for the rest of the mission. This would've offered different opportunities to take him down, depending on how much time we take to complete the mission and where we start, closer to the hospital or closer to the entrance.

      To counter, several of hokkaido famous kills (spa trap in particular), you pretty much need a scramble device to get to the control panal for the spa (I have the definite edition, so it may be in an easier spot to reach in other versions, and I also don't have a lot of practice on the map and try not to look things up if I don't need to

      @JJsProductionsTwitch  Před 3 lety

      The scrambler helps for sure. Something like the Spa though can be done without it. What comes to mind is going through the morgue towards the mountain exit, exiting the morgue where the two guards pass by on patrol, head right and climb a pipe near the garage that’ll take you up a floor to the spa room. There’s also the path that leads to the bike exit by the spa as well which could take you that way as well. Two offhand ideas. It’s kinda why I like the map, it’s not easy but it’s not obnoxiously hard either.

    Colorado upped the targets & gave everyone guns. Carpathian Mountains stuck you on a train & gave you a weapons free objective. Santa Fortuna took a far more rural approach using bushes & hedges as your main cover.

    Romania
    I won't bother to type out all of my reasoning here as I already made a 47 min video explaining my thoughts on each map in detail. czcams.com/video/UrYHXXETicY/video.html If you want to hear my opinion on any of the maps specifically it's here. Keep in mind I also factor in decoration and sound design and weight them probably more than most.
    Just a few of the biggest differences between ours that I noticed I will explain my reasoning on:
    Berlin: From a gameplay standpoint its very unique and its up there do to its versatility. I do feel, however, that the design is too monotone and it makes the level feel as if it has very little distinct areas. The layout of the level combined with the fact that everything for the most part is concrete makes it feel somewhat barebones.
    Dartmoor: I don't think it deserves to be dumped down with the throwaway 1 target missions as it is a bigger 1 target map with a decent amount of replayability. Yes, its kind of easy, but the level design is pretty good in my opinion and even though the detective thing is a throwaway it still feels more unique than some other maps, and definitely more appealing to play than Bangkok for instance.
    Isle of Sgail: I love big height differences trust me but just something about the tone of this level makes me forget it exists and just not really care to play it. I want to like it, I really do, but I just don't like these super monotonic levels as much. That's the best explanation I can give. (also the layouts pretty weird)
    And Paris is #1 because it birthed literally everything. I know a lot of other players who started playing right at the start also have this bias. Its just an unspoken code we have to follow, Paris holds a special place in our hearts. They clearly put time into crafting the best first impression possible for players. No matter how objectively good a map is from a gameplay standpoint it couldn't ever surpass the things that make Paris special. (Not like its poorly made either it has a very well thought out layout as well)

      @JJsProductionsTwitch  Před 3 lety

      Okay so equally I will try to be brief here in response :-)
      Berlin - I will give you that regarding the level aesthetic, there is a lot of concrete at times but perhaps it's personal taste but I don't mind that. As far as the level design, which I tried to focus on most, I feel the map has distinct areas and different feels, for instance, compare the juice bar areas to the rave several floors below, the biker gang to the club entrance/coat check areas. Each does have its own vibe and choosing targets in each different section lends to a different approach. Again, perhaps this is just personal taste. It's still early days as far as my video goes so we'll see where the consensus lies.
      Dartmoor - I take your point that perhaps it is a little low compared to the two below it, however, I didn't want to judge levels based on my personal preference or the enjoyment of a playthrough. You're right, I would prefer playing Dartmoor to Bangkok because it's a much easier map to traverse, but does that make it better? I personally don't think so. My justification for its ranking can be summed as: there is such a thing as being too easy.
      IoS - Again, it could be personal taste but I like the dark and eerie tones of this map, it lends itself to good contrasts as you make your way up from the Harbor to the top levels of the map and we go from gothic seas to technological gothic mishmashes. Also if we were talking about main missions, this would rank lower as I do not rate the Washingtons for their routes or replayability, however, I feel there are plenty of good contracts that can be created on this map that rescue its reputation.
      Paris - It wasn't a knock on it, although I will admit to being late to the party having started playing around the time of Patient Zero. If I was going for the romantic route, I would give it to Paris and Sapienza (I can't split them for getting me into the series) but again I felt that Miami went a step further than Paris, whilst my belief is that with time Berlin will prove to be better. Again, time will tell though!
      Thanks for your comment ☺️

    I can understand putting the train and hawks bay last, but Dartmoor and Bangkok both belong above Colorado. While you raise some good points, Colorado doesn't have nearly enough places for easy silent takedowns to make up for the fact that every NPC other than the main targets and the three hackers are armed to the teeth and aware of you. Add on the fact that one of the elusive targets on the map just has guards programmed to home in on you if you get within half a mile of the guy and the whole map is just terrible in nearly everybody's opinion except apparently yours.

    Hard to disagree with your logic, of why this order works for you.
    For me, Paris is always my number 1. In the first Hitman game, my wife and I played this level so much - exploring and learning the level. We refused to move onto the next level until we "knew" that level. None of the other levels (including Sapienza) captured us that deeply. As the sequels came along, we got some great levels, some "meh" and some "poor" - but none ever overtook Paris for how strongly we felt.
    After that, Miami, Sapienza, Hokkaido, Berlin - all "S-Tier" and hard to put one over another.

    Berlin is by chance my least favorite map because I don't like the aesthetics of it at all, it's full of empty spaces and the targets as well as the kills are very uninteresting, unlike Mendoza (for example). It's an excellent map for many but I don't think it fits well into the type of game that is Hitman, a game where we have to investigate ways to eliminate targets often by interacting with them and other NPC's and using disguises. It is perhaps better for those who are more of a fan of speedruns rather than the story of the actual mission, but it still works well as an interlude to the last part of the trilogy.
